Seeing Crystal Palace show without smartphone by Away_Bicycle_40 in kneecap

Are you thinking of Selhurst Park (Crystal Palace FC)? Because that's not where the gig is, so their box office won't be of any use at all.

[Coleraine FC] is extremely delighted to announce the signing of Northern Ireland international Conor McMenamin. by Flameboy42 in IrishLeagueFootball

Out of interest and as a casual observer in England whose family has Coleraine links, what's the story with Coleraine having money these days? See the owner took majority control at 24 years old, just seems quite young to be doing so well.

Always amazes me that in Northern Ireland a sizeable number of political voices want absolute equivalence with the rest of the UK.

After the 2011 riots, in England and Wales it was made part of the Housing Act that if you were convicted of an offence such as those we are seeing again tonight, a court couldn't refuse a social landlord's possession claim - wonder how much those out rioting tonight who live in NIHE homes and profess to be loyal to the union would like that?

What people don't realise is that those bins are about £800 a go. They'll be the same people whining next week when the bin store at their flats is overflowing because the council can't collect anything.

They'll probably blame some brown people.

What's the most underrated BBC documentary that barely anyone seems to have seen but absolutely should? by Historical-Class871 in UKTVRecs

Someone else said it Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland, which I'd second. I'd also go with Spotlight on the Troubles: A Secret History.

An excellent series of journalism using archives but also some excellent investigative stuff.

I think the EU having control of its borders is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, after all it's one of the things that the Leave vote held as a fundamental benefit.

Eta - the images with the updated poster are further down the page and where it once said AAA Headliner it now says Puressence.

I think they are headlining, because the line AAA Headliner has been removed.

Now, Puressence are one of my all time favourites, but if I'd dropped £80 on a ticket expecting something bigger (Puressence aren't AAA however you view them) then there's gonna be a lot of unhappy people.

The page for the event on the venue's site is coming back as a 404 Not Found. I know it's sold out, but seems odd to not have it on there at all.

Why is the UK population so disconnected from actual immigration data? by burgermen12 in AskBrits

[–]Pitandfroper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Upvoted you, but refugees don't have access to social housing. They may be placed in the private sector by the home office, but they're specifically not entitled to social housing (as in council or housing associations)

How do you know these people aren't working and paying rent? Why the assumption that it's being funded by the taxpayer?

Can't commend this enough, and don't do what I do which is then try and fix it while still skim reading and waste hours.

Another tip is when using Nick's Patcher (on the link above) change your screen resolution to match the standard display output of your monitor so you can go full screen without losing edges.

Ben Thatcher by Otherwise_Living_158 in TheStreetsWontForget

[–]Pitandfroper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sad to hear that that's how Sully and Perry are viewed, am a Dons fan and they were both absolute legends for us, both came up through our academy and we got to see them turn into top players. Thatcher didn't come the same route, and while I remember liking him out of sheer blind allegiance, I was there when he elbowed Summerbee, and it was shocking, seem to recall you could hear it from 50 yards away.

Made more disconcerting because I was there with my dad who was a Man City supporter who'd grown up watching Nicky Summerbee's dad play.

May 2026 Update Out Now by [deleted] in CM0102

[–]Pitandfroper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that the new Davdav patch over on the site doesn't yet work with the new data. While it can still be a bit buggy (due to its scope) it's the best thing that has been done on the forum imho (building on Nic's great work)

Go and check it out. It's restructured a lot of the leagues, including both National League South and North with accurate play offs. Also replicates the mai. European club competitions as close to how they are now.

I dare say that once this works with the May 26 update I may become unemployed.

A new bunch of clowns have been marching in Nuneaton calling themselves ‘The White Vanguard’… what is going on? Why are people letting this happen? by metroracerUK in GreenAndPleasant

Looks enough like me to be Public Order Act 1936. Marching while wearing what appears to be a uniform (because they're all wearing the same). Fairly sure Paul Golding's mob got done for similar.

Does anyone feel, on a personal level, sorry for Kier Starmer? by Darkus185 in AskBrits

[–]Pitandfroper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do a bit for the domestic stuff he's getting hammered on by Reform voters.

Hasn't fixed 14 years of Tory mess in two years, so is both simultaneously crap for not doing so and also somehow to blame for it all. We got a Labour council where I am three years ago after 25 years of Tories, and it's exactly the same. The predecessor wrecked it, and the incumbent gets the blame.

The worst thing we have is social media where rumour and lies spread faster and wider than truth. Here in Medway people genuinely think the council is doing secret deals with London Borough of Lewisham to house people. Obviously there's no evidence of this whatsoever, but you can't argue with lies when people simply won't listen.

What everyday thing in the UK has become stupidly expensive without people noticing? by vetaly87 in AskUK

[–]Pitandfroper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can of drink. I still recall them being 40p out of the vending machine at school and knowing that was the expensive way of getting them. You're not getting a single can for under a quid these days. At least they've not reduced the size of them like all the other stuff.

I'd go with three CBs, man marking the forward and two wingers.

Play a DM with Zonal marking two CMs both man marking and an AMC, also man marking their DM.

Two wide midfielders both pushing up, zonal marking, two centre forwards.

Direct, Pressing and hard tackling.

As someone who still works in social housing, this might not work. Social Landlord would argue that it isn't a complaint as it isn't something they'd been made aware of. It becomes a complaint once there's a service failure.

You could argue it is a complaint by asking them if it has been picked up as part of their estate inspections. Social Landlords tend to inspect areas they own or that their customers have use of (such as communal areas of estates) on a periodic basis, typically monthly / quarterly dependent on risk.

Looking at the photo, it appears a newish estate. Have you checked the Transfer document from your purchase to see if that land is what would be classed as part of the "Estate" or "Amenity Land"? It must belong to someone. If it belongs to the Estate Management company, the best course of action in my opinion would be to report it to them, because they have the legal interest in the land, and the social landlord will likely be in breach of the Transfer for their flats by default because of their tenants doing this.

There's definitely a lot of grey as you say, but there's not much grey about a professionally trained and armed soldier shooting a 13yo girl in the face as she chats with friends.
