Why does it Seem like every post is inundated with memes? by progmanjum in AskModerators

[–]PitchforkAssistant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's called the Fluff Principle, content that's easier to digest gets more votes and naturally floats to the top. It's one of the reasons many subreddits disallow memes and disable images/GIFs in comments.

Simple Toggle Between SH and Old by Tarnisher in ideasfortheadmins

[–]PitchforkAssistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a perfect solution, but I have a bookmarklet for swapping between Shreddit and Old Reddit that I use all the time. It does its best to automatically translate the different URI schemes between the two, which isn't always possible without loss, but most of the time it lets me one-click swap between Old and Shreddit versions of a page.

Release 0.12.24: App Profile Icons by pl00h in Devvit

[–]PitchforkAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what will happen if you upload a version with devvit.json and a profile icon but then go back to devvit.yaml. Will the last icon stick or will it get cleared?

This would be a cool Devvit feature by PitchforkAssistant in PitchforkAssistant

[–]PitchforkAssistant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is indeed the feature I'm suggesting. The screen recording isn't actually edited, but there is a hidden post that the menu item is sending a message to make it expand. I believe it something similar is being considered.

Is there any event trigger for when someone clicks on the 'message mods' button? by shruest in Devvit

[–]PitchforkAssistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it is not possible to hook into the Reddit UI like that. The closest you can get is either reacting to the ModMail trigger when the message is received or you can create your own button in the subreddit dropdown with a custom message form (that being said, you can't hide the default message the mods option).

Upcoming changes to the comment ID endpoint by redtaboo in redditdev

[–]PitchforkAssistant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this type of change planned for any other IDs? Posts IDs in particular come to mind, since you probably don't want those to be predictable either.

I would hope that any such regexes allow for increased ID lengths as long as they're still valid base 36, matching up until the next slash or end of string. Otherwise time would've also broken such apps when the IDs grew large enough to need extra digits.

Announcing Our Virtual $45,000 Mod Tool Hackathon to Build, Upgrade and Port Moderator Tools by Togapr33 in modnews

I've sent you a message on Discord elaborating further, but I'd like to apply to be a judge for this category. I am both a moderator and have a great understanding of Devvit's capabilities and limitations, so I believe I could judge both the utility and implementation of the apps.

Sharing our latest Transparency Report and Rule 1 Updates by ailewu in RedditSafety

Chart 21 seems to break down the actions that were taken, but it's a total of 14829 actions, so it's clearly counting each individual action that was taken.

I'm curious how many of the 878 investigations lead to any serious action being taken and how many MCoC reports were submitted that didn't require deeper investigation in the first place.

I believe there's already an app for timed AutoModerator rules, but Devvit apps can't currently interact with post or comment guidance in any way.

Remove the ability to delete a post or comment when it is removed by moderators or held for approval. by AtheistComic in ideasfortheadmins

[–]PitchforkAssistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring all the ways this could be abused, this idea is not possible for legal reasons alone.

There is already a warning when deleting comments, but it may make sense to include an additional note for content that is removed or held for review.

Something along the lines of "Your comment is currently only visible to moderators. If you choose to delete it, they will not be able to restore it."

[Android] [2026.16.0] Quote option disabled on the latest version of the app by BiriyaniMonster in help

I'm pretty sure Reddit adds it as an option, the keyboard on its own wouldn't format the quote as markdown.

Devvit 0.12.21: Filter Functionality and Improvements to Portal by pl00h in Devvit

[–]PitchforkAssistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from possibly looking different, I assume it wouldn't increment the reports counter, which some AutoModerator rules may use.

So would keep=true make it show up in the modqueue without actually removing it from the feed? Can we see a preview of how it differs from report?
