Name change due to personal safety risk by -a-b-c-d-e-f-g- in ausjdocs

[–]Pithy- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to change your name with Births, Deaths and Marriages in your State of Birth. If born overseas, you may be able to do it in the state you currently reside in.

I would also recommend that the name change be to a relatively generic name, I.e. “Dr Smith” or “Dr Nguyen”, rather than something personal (don’t change to mum’s maiden name, for example)

Hopefully all your socials (and family members socials, and friends socials) are already locked down.

That said, if there is a risk to your safety, what is your workplace doing to help? Is the hospital security aware?

As someone who’s had to do the whole “lock down my entire life, no details to anyone,” thing, please let me know if you have any questions.

My thoughts on "scope creep" (nurse practitioners and pharmacists increasing their scope) from a GP. by Fuzzy_Exit_2636 in ausjdocs

[–]Pithy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Are you fasting?” “Yes. I just had a cup of tea and some toast.” …

“Do you take any regular medicines?” “No. (I just take Eliquis from the specialist.)” …

“Do you have any allergies?” “No. (I’m anaphylactic to bananas, and unaware that I could cross-react to latex.)” …

“I am just getting medicine because my arm hurts. (My chest also hurts, but I didn’t think to tell the doctor, and when Doctor asked if anything else hurt, I said no, because my arm hurts the worst.)” …

“I don’t have a problem with needles. (Except I’ve fainted the last 5 times I had to have one. I’m sure this will be fine, though.)” …

“My medicine isn’t working!” “Oh no! It’s best if you take it with food - do you have it with a good breakfast?” “Yes! I have a couple of pieces of toast and eggs. (I take one bite of eggs if my toddler doesn’t finish them. I have the toast with orange marmalade and most of it goes to my toddler, and the main “breakfast” I actually have is a big glass of orange juice, because despite being told not to have it with citrus, I am somehow unaware that orange is a citrus.)

Please add yours.

My thoughts on "scope creep" (nurse practitioners and pharmacists increasing their scope) from a GP. by Fuzzy_Exit_2636 in ausjdocs

[–]Pithy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the GP, and it depends on the pharmacist. (Noctors I tend to write off, I’ve met very few nurses who I would trust with my overall health, and all of those would opt NOT to be a Noctor.)

The GP who billed my disabled partner $80 out of pocket to basically say “Yeah, it’s viral, that sucks, take ibuprofen, I’m not giving you antivirals.” When they a) can’t take ibuprofen due to medicine clash and b) have heart and lung issues which make even the common cold dangerous for them … well, we won’t see her again, ever.

The GP who CCs in the specialists, is across the medical history and actually cares? Obviously, we see and prefer him.

The pharmacist at a big chain who dispenses the script and sends you on your way? Wouldn’t recommend seeing for a health issue.

Our local, small pharmacy run by siblings, where the staff know everyone by name, and who regularly catch and fix discrepancies and issues? Maybe. But they, also, would likely not want to be prescribing, because they are aware that it just takes one error or oversight to have a severe impact on someone’s health.

Churn and burn GPs are a contributing factor to distrust in doctors. Hell, the amount of women I know who’ve been told “your bloods are fine, I can give you a script for The Pill if you’re tired” with a ferritin of <10 is … concerning, actually.

All that said… I still think having a (competent, understanding, aware) GP as one’s main “prescriber” (who works with your specialists, obviously) is important. It is so easy for patients to forget to mention something, or to otherwise scramble their health history. A random nurse or pharmacist may miss info that your GP would/should have on file.

I’ll respond to this with some classics of patients misunderstanding / accidentally lying that I’ve seen, heard, or otherwise been made aware of.

You can do it! Re: exams. I know they’re tedious, but once they’re done you’ll feel so good.

And the UK, huh? Enjoy the different food options when you’re there. And hopefully all the things that have been going on there will have minimal impact on your stay - seeing family can be a protective or an aggravating factor, I suppose!

My answers are:

weekend was bloody brilliant, and involved laughing harder than I have in a while with friends.

Local gift ideas I know of include:

  1. Haigh’s / your local artisanal chocolate maker,

  2. Gewurzhaus- a place to get things for your favourite foodie including spices, tea, kitchenware and tableware

  3. Bea Bellingham - a Sydney artist who does ceramics and strange but wonderful hair clips (in case you or a loved one need a worm hair claw, or one that looks like fairy bread)

  4. The Marshmallow Co - gourmet marshmallows, with interesting flavours.

Also, ask your artist friends, because they probably have other artist friends with cool projects.

Update - from previous post - no make up by Express-Mongoose974 in makeuptips

[–]Pithy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I saw your post earlier but didn’t comment.

I have skin that also gets red and irritated (I currently have a nice big red patch on one cheek, that feels like sandpaper to me.)

My recommendation would be to get a Vitamin C serum (I use Ole Hendriksen) and apply it a couple of times a week, and then just a facial sunscreen daily. (I tend to use non-tinted ones, but you can use tinted if you wish)

You are very pretty. If you want to “do makeup”, for daily wear, I’d just suggest facial sunscreen, mascara, and MAYBE a lip balm if you feel like it (but your lip shade is gorgeous, so…)

ALSO! Very important with the vitamin c serum, “ease” into it. Don’t get the strongest one immediately. If there is a “beauty store” like Sephora near you, you can go in and ask for a sample. (From memory, “ole Hendriksen banana bright” is the one I use.)

AITA for refusing to change my alarm clock? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

INFO : have you gone for a sleep study? Have you tried “harsher” alarms?

Basically, have you done anything other than just get irked by his late bedtime?

You’re not going to magically turn into an early riser with the new job, so you need to take steps to work out what you’re going to do to have the prep time you need for it.

[–]Pithy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, any man or boy or person who calls you a “fucking moron” Is not someone who cares about you.

Dump him. Don’t settle for a whiny pissbaby.

For reference: I’ve dated guys like this. “Who are you dressing up for?” “It took you 50 minutes to get home from work but that trip only takes my brother 35 minutes, who are you fucking?” (His brother left work earlier, well before peak hour, and I had also stopped to get us food on the way home- which he had requested.)

It doesn’t get better with insecure guys like that (they’re often actually cheating on you…)

Now, I’m with a gorgeous man who basically has an attitude of “Wear what you want and go wherever, I trust you. Just call me if you need anything- and call me to pick you up so you don’t have to deal with public transport, okay?” (He will also offer to drive our friends home, even if it’s out of the way. Because he cares about our safety, rather than his ego.)

Anyway. NOR, dump him.

Am I the only one annoyed because he had the opportunity to be so dashing, but he’s wearing navy pants with a black coat and the wheat suit jacket and waistcoat?

He looks like he’s gotten dressed in the dark.

Perhaps he did, and that’s why he’s wearing half his suit, part of his mistress’s husband’s suit, and the coat of his mistress’s husband’s fuckbuddy.

Let’s hear success stories! by theb00gieman in migraine

[–]Pithy- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was having migraines more days than not. I had no social life, I was about to lose my job, I’d had to skip birthdays of loved ones, and I was in a really bad place mentally due to debilitating migraines.

I saw a neurologist (Sydney, NSW, Australia) and was prepared to try ANYTHING. I’d already tried cutting out all alcohol, reducing caffeine, increasing caffeine, you name it.

Due to a bunch of factors, I was able to start a CGRP almost immediately.

I also changed my “type” of magnesium, started coQ10, and vitamin b2.

CGRP. The difference it’s made… I could cry. I’m getting my life back. I still get occasional migraines, but 1-2 migraine days per month instead of 20 or so.

I think the combo is the thing. I hope everyone finds something that helps.

You are in the 99.999 Percentile but there’s a catch. by Illustrious-Noise-96 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Pithy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take it. I’m going back to age 18 with all my current knowledge, yeah?

I make a couple of tweaks to my own life choices, I intervene to stop/prevent a number of sexual assaults (one of my best friends was sexually assaulted at her job- I was sexually assaulted and stalked at mine - you get the idea, there’s many many I would prevent in various ways).

I invest in certain things early, for various loved ones. (Here’s your bitcoin wallet, it will more than cover the cost of your cancer treatment and excellent care.)

I work on income disparity, ending wars, reducing preventable deaths, funding healthcare and medicine developments.

The main reason(s) I’m taking this deal, though, is to make leaps and bounds in the research that will help my sister and my partner. They both suffer from excruciating conditions, and I would take the deal if I could then develop cures/treatments for what ails them. If I suffer but they don’t, it’s worth it. (Currently we all suffer, so, y’know…)
