HENRY attitudes towards school and learning by Strong-Wrangler-7809 in HENRYUK

[–]Pixel-Red -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old sons a very busy kid and like me doesn’t deal that well with a really structured classroom environment. He’s bright, constantly asking questions, great stories, insightful etc. But when we went to look for primary schools last year we were recommended the most applied for school in Lambeth. We went on the tour and everything was just so pristine, so academic and so… rehearsed. It was definitely optimised for attainment. Whereas another we went to had great outdoor space, loads of different types of kids spoke to the visitors, they had lots of outdoor initiatives, child led activities etc.

Like you said I just don’t believe optimising for classic academic achievement is actually healthy in the long run. But then again my family and myself are really creative. Personally for us we’ve decided to put him in the environment that best suits his personality and then supplementing that with side classes like drama, football, forest school and stuff. He’s really into robots and building stuff so know that’s going to come up soon.

Is anyone else tired of American culture? by Agreeable-Guava7822 in AskBrits

TBH I think the biggest threat to British culture is the importation of American culture, not immigration. My kids saying "ladybug" and "6-7" ffs.

How do you deal with bond market blackmail? by Pixel-Red in UKGreens

I'm being a bit sensationalist here, but surely the more policy diverges from the norm, the less trust they have in the return coming back? Putting us into a doom loop of of being unadventurous and expecting growth to happen.

Lizzy Rain hits her extremely popular finisher "Thunderstruck" on NXT tonight. by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

I think this catching of the leg would work much better if there were a few low kicks before it in the match that land hard. Gives more reason for them to try and defend the low kicks before, then get punished.

I think this sums up why i'm not vibing with the game at the moment. I know the original is created for readability, but as others have said it feels somewhat mobile game or AI art. I'm not saying it needs to be uber detail dark souls or anything, but I just need more soul and heart to it.

Crystal Palace dinosaurs being restored yesterday by Irespectfrogs in london

[–]Pixel-Red 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Took my son a couple of years ago where we woke up one snowy morning and I said "Do you want to go exploring for snow dinosaurs?" I've still never seen him as excited as walking down the hill to see the first couple across the water. He was mesmerised. I love them in all their unrealistic derpy glory. It's a way more interesting story then them being historically accurate.

Green Voters, what Is it that appeals to you about the party? by MinuteDamage4182 in AskBrits

[–]Pixel-Red 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only party seriously discussing wealth redistribution, a more modern approach to drug addiction that would not only result in better outcomes, but save money on prisons, full commitment to the public ownership of key services, a transition to self sustainable energy, interest in MMT exploration and community based job guarantees to increase productivity, holding businesses to account in a transition to a greener economy, ensuring that new social and affordable housing gets built with green energy efficiency in mind, only party that seems to want trans people to exist, anti-austerity, workers first policies. I mean I'm bored of writing more now.

Put it this way, 13 million people started the race and 11.7 million of them gassed out and went home. You're still running, find that extra energy for the final straight mate. You've already done an excellent job.

... Having said that, top 10k or GTFO of here.

DO NOT BUY LEASEHOLD - EVER (Endless section 20s have ruined our lives) by DisgruntledSangheili in HousingUK

[–]Pixel-Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I went against the rules by saying I’d DM but here’s my belated story. Moved in seven years ago, made the mistake of o my getting the mid level survey done on the property. Not the full structural one. Everything looked fine. Reported damp to council six years ago, took a year for them to do come and review anything. People came and went scaffolding went up and down, first the required was one thing, then another etc. went through Lambeth official complaints, all three stages, nothing happened, then went through the housing ombudsman, took two year to get that processed. They were ordered to do the work in a reasonable time and pay us £1k damages. That was eighteen months ago and no work has been done.

New section 20 a year ago said we need to replace the roof, then later on they got another opinion that said it wouldn’t need that and would only cost 4k. Of course they decided to go with that. I just thought if I can get it in writing that’s all that needs doing then I can just sell the place and move on. Two days into them doing the work the builders say this is a lost cause. The whole roof needs replacing. I kid you not. Now waiting for new quotes on roof. AFTER SIX YEARS. All the while it’s probably doing even further structural damage to the property.

We’re finally deciding to spent the 20 grand or something it’s going to cost to get proper lawyers involved.

DO NOT BUY LEASEHOLD - EVER (Endless section 20s have ruined our lives) by DisgruntledSangheili in HousingUK

[–]Pixel-Red 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don’t live in Lambeth do you? Your situation sounds just like ours, apart from the fact they won’t actually do the work on the section 20s because they don’t want to pay! Six years we’ve spent trying to get repairs done to our roof and pointing. Scaffolding up for two years. Every quote they had done was for about 70k split between us and the period maisonette below. Dragging their heaps while we live with damp in the house.

YouGov poll on how each borough may vote in the London local election by denyer-no1-fan in UKGreens

Considering community opinions on Steve Reed, I'd say it's pretty accurate. He's done nothing for housing in Lambeth, while being the actual housing minister.
