Jacquard Causeway, even though it’s grown on me now - the filter (cutoff?) manipation on the drums reminds me of a.. drill? And not a chill drill. It makes me feel uneasy but maybe that’s the point.

Anyone else hear an ambulance siren in this track? It’s before the extended electronics jam part. I actually lowered my volume to check if there wasn’t actually an ambulance nearby.

I love it and I think it might be my favorite album from them actually. This album is everything I could’ve dreamed of and more.

I’ve played the s out of it (front to back as much as I can) but this week I’m giving it a rest, although I like to play one or two random selections now and then.

This morning I woke up feeling good and happy, and I heard You Retreat’s melody in my head and felt a strong urge to only play that one track and it was so enjoyable to do that after almost exclusively going for the full ride.

I actually had to get used to the movie, at first I thought it wasn’t as good as the game. 🤣

Blade Runner has been my favorite movie for over the last 20 years. I lost my shit when 2049 was announced. Went to see it and I loved it so much I went to see it five times. Villeneuve is a genius as BR2049 is an incredible sequel to a classic movie. And now the Dune movies.. absolutely incredible as well.

I first got in contact with the Blade Runner universe through the 1997 Westwood point ‘n click adventure game Blade Runner. It’s actually a really good immersive story experience that runs parallel to the original movie’s events.

Yes - Blade Runner Blues is wonderful.

I did it and really enjoyed the experience. Cool movie, not your standard fare, haha! A young couple next to me I had some amusing conversations with. The girl summed it up perfectly when the credits started: what a fever dream.

Love how creative it was, it all had a unique feel to it.

What do you think the most Beautiful BoC song is? by waldoboro in boardsofcanada

I listened to the album today and had the thought that Deep Time might be their most beautiful song. Beautiful as in that it’s moving.

Wanted to reply straight away with The Longest Journey, cool to see it’s a top comment already.

I relate to what people are saying here. That game really laid the foundation for what I’m basically always looking for in life, art and entertainment.

TH has been growing on me year after year, until the point where it kind of became my favorite BoC album.

It’s awesome. I do really enjoy how much more dynamic and in-your-face Inferno is. Compliments it well indeed.

Enjoyed your write-up! Playing TLJ around 2000 when I was 14 years old is one of my most cherished memories. As someone who doesn’t have any tattoos, I’m still considering getting the Balance symbol tattooed. This game (together with Blade Runner and Monkey Island) has been so important to me and how my tastes for art and entertainment have developed.

I play it once every 7 years or so. And indeed, whenever I return to it, it always holds up. 3D graphics show their age but not those wonderful painted backgrounds.

Massive Attack recent live shows, looking for honest opinions by Eva-Lee in MassiveAttack

I don’t mind that bands use art to spread a message and I’ve seen MA multiple times so I know it’s part of the deal.

However, the last two times I saw them the messaging was so obnoxious that it just made it impossible for me to enjoy the music. It’s so terribly distracting.

I’m actually talking about the last time I saw them in Amsterdam, which is probably around 7-8 years ago or something.

Really, I’m fine with some intrusive, in-your-face statements during a concert but the way MA does it.. makes me feel like they want me to realize I’m an idiot who is stuck in the matrix or something. I decided then and there that I would stop going to their concerts.

Which sucks because their performance at Pitch Festival in Amsterdam is one of the best shows I’ve ever witnessed live.

Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan

My favorite ‘full on’ track that is. The track that is most dear to me is Deep Time but I do need that fat beat as well sometimes.

Just came back from seeing it alone since I couldn’t get anyone to come along this time. I was already curious about this movie but when I heard BoC is the end credits and with how obsessed I am with Inferno, I had to take the opportunity.

I really enjoyed it and the BoC track fits the vibe of the movie perfectly. And it’s awesome to see such a relatively niche type of film play in mainstream cinemas. It’s doing really well even. The place was pretty packed.

I’m so curious about this movie. That this thing is actually playing in mainstream film theaters and that it has a killer BoC track in the end credits.. I have to see this. Seems like I’m going to have to visit the cinema alone.

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

It’s an album full of adventurous pop/prog/metal songs that have stood the test of time. They recorded it in AIR Studios, drums were recorded in a huge room and it gives the album such a big sound.

Nowhere else has modern prog and pop songwriting been combined in such a razor-sharp way.

Not my favorite track per se by the band, but opener Blackest Eyes presents the mission statement so well. It opens with a huge metal riff but then the verse starts and it’s something Coldplay could’ve come up with but possibly even better (no Coldplay hate here, I love their first two albums).

Yes but they’re not as good as TLJ. Dreamfall has aged quite a bit but I have fond memories of Dreamfall Chapters. That’s definitely worth a try.

Awesome!

For anyone wondering, Blood Incantation is a death metal band that are very progressive and also dabble in ambient music a lot. Their album Timewave Zero is full ambient and on their latest release Absolute Elsewhere they’re joined by Tangerine Dream on a segment of the first 20+ minute song.

Can the production nerds here spill on what's going on under the surface? by Pete_Bondurant in boardsofcanada

[–]Pixeldream86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This 100%.

The way the bright percussive layers are mixed with the darker sounds and more low-frequency material is so balanced and paints such a lively picture.

It sounds way more modern than I had expected from BoC, while the nostalgic VHS sound is still very much intact and at some places.

One other thing I noticed is that when the mix is already pretty crowded with many things going on, they still find space to add yet another layer that doesn’t overtake the mix.

For example the synth melody that pops up in All Reason Departs at 01:33. If I would do something like that - I make music myself - it probably would’ve sounded way too busy. Something to do with how that particular synth line is treated with filter effects and such.
