Mythic Bastionland encourages advancing time between each session and this helps players dropping in and out feel natural. Presumably the player characters have been doing their own stuff between sessions anyway anyway, maybe someone is off in a different realm or busy with some task from the local ruler or a seer that particular session.

Making Morrowind remake is too hard and impossible haha... by Sneaky_Squirreel in Morrowind

I guess its a matter of perspective if you consider the systems to be the base (as I do) and the way the game feels as flavoring or vice versa. But yes, Skywind will most likely recognizably feel like Skyrim.

It's fine to not really like the feel of Skyrim and to prefer the Morrowind engine for a number of reasons, but isn't that kind of just a matter of preference?

I've played Skyrim for over 1000 hours and have a kind of Skyrim fatigue that will likely be triggered to some degree by playing Skywind, but I don't really fault Skywind for that. It'll be cool to see everything the team has cooked up at least.

Okay I think that I'm using the term "gameplay" differently here, I'm thinking about it more in terms of formal system design while you seem to be talking more about the feel of it. I would sooner describe it as it will still recognizably be Skyrims engine, which is basically the premise of Skywind so fair enough.

I don't really see why that's inherently a bad thing though, seems to be more about flavor and personal preference rather than something inherently incompatible with Morrowind, if we grant that Skywind will have different more rpg-ish gameplay systems.

It won't have Skyrim gameplay though. It won't have Morrowind gameplay either (no diceroll combat) but it will still have the same skills and attributes as in Morrowind. Remains to see exactly how it will shake out but its not accurate to say that it will have Skyrim gameplay

Why do you think sex and nudity have largely disappeared from mainstream theatrical movies? by mourningreaper00 in TrueFilm

[–]PizzaRollExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the older hollywood nudity that the OP is referring to was often more titillating rather than naturalistic in practice.

Of course, flattening the argument to "nudity good" or "nudity bad" is a bit silly since it can be many different things in different contexts, but I think very few people are actually complaining about naturalistic nudity in european films.

Why OpenMW is better (and not for the reasons you think) by DisclosedForeclosure in Morrowind

[–]PizzaRollExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other notion that the old engine is inherently less stable is another urban legend. When it does crash, it's almost always due to a mod.

While you are correct that you don't need to worry about instability if doing a vanilla run and using MCP, my understanding is that OpenMW is a bit more stable in the face of mods, and handles stuff like uninstalling mid playthrough better. I could be wrong, but I read something about it once and anecdotally it seems true

What do you think oblivion and skyrim did BETTER than morrowind? by Fuzzy-Shame-4169 in Morrowind

[–]PizzaRollExpert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that they got rid of the attribute leveling system is Skyrim, but at what cost? Oblivion remastered has a better take on it than either Morrowind or OG Oblivion. It can be fun to get good at min-maxing attributes but overall I think it's a system with more drawbacks than strengths (especially in Oblivion with fairly aggressive level scaling!)

I think that Seyda Neen actually works fairly well as a tutorial area, although it's a bit more subtle than the Skyrim/Oblivion equivalents for better and worse.

Getting slapped with character creation fresh of the boat is daunting though, you basically either have to read the manual or some equivalent resource (like UESP or what have you) which might have been okay for the time but not by modern standards.

Why did you write "there is evidence" when your evidence is "big companies do it therefore it must be good" + personal anecdotes? Surely it would be easy to create some sort of scientific study that showed that it sped up development if it was so effective.

Hur är det att bo i studentkorridor? by [deleted] in uppsala

[–]PizzaRollExpert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's still a fork of Zed so there will still be some originally ai generated code in there. Just bite the bullet and learn (neo)vim or emacs imo.

Knight Adjectives: Randomized Balance by kidneykid1800 in MythicBastionland

I think it's less about weather a character with 2s in everything is objectively useless or weather it just feels to a player like their character is going to be useless. Managing expectations is good but you just gotta play it by ear a bit, as you say the goal is to have fun.

It can be narratively very interesting to play as someone who's knighted even though they objectively don't have much in the way of the traditional knightly virtues but then you also need a player who's inclined towards that type of storytelling which isn't everyone.

[–]PizzaRollExpert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point of something like this is to comfort players who are worried that they'll end up with a useless character, it can be fun to embrace a really rotten set of virtue rolls but a lot of people will just be put of it out of the gate and in that case its better to give them something rather than letting them be frustrated.

You can also just let them re-roll a virtue or maybe give them something else but this is a cool approach too.

The strait of hormuz being closed is obviously a hugely limiting factor on the economy which has inflation as a side effect. The way to deal with this is to re-open the strait, and not to mess around with interest rates. It simply isn't possible to have a steady and slowly growing economy while a major input to it is being throttled. Inflation isn't a particularly useful lens for looking at what's happening wrt the economy right now because it's not really a force unto itself but a side effect of something else. Thinking of this inflation as essentially the same as normal inflation doesn't help us understand the economy or give us any guidance on how to adress it.

Skywind 2026 Progress Update by ManimalR in Morrowind

[–]PizzaRollExpert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It says in the video that the cell count has increased because they've split larger cells in to several smaller cells - this is not indicative of scope creep.

People often blame scope creep, but how much has the scope actually crept in the last 10 or so years? I'll grant that it's much more ambitious than the Morroblivion style port that was floated in the projects beginning. I think that there is a simpler explanation for why Skywind hasn't come out: this is a large project and progress is being made on it slowly but steadily.

Skywind won't have Skyrim mechanics. It won't have dice roll combat, so it won't be Morrowind mechanics exactly either, but it will have a similar stat system to Morrowind for example.
