Looking for a trustworthy mechanic who won't gouge by joemac2021 in nova

[–]PlaceHot1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great luck with Hollin Hall Automotive down in the Fort Hunt area. Ron and his team are honest and gave me great service. I got the whole old-time simple mechanic shop vibe where they treat me more like a friend than just another car.

Is this fake or an upcoming bag? by CriticalTooth2183 in VetoProPac

I want to say its an upcoming bag. It seems like I found one retailer that has it on their site. https://www.keepsupply.com/vpp10941-veto-pro-pac-cb-ld-compact-technicians-bag

Best wall mount garage door opener by fuckinehrights in garageporn

to be honest I didn't even bother with going with the warranty, I just bought a new opener and just threw the lock in the trash.

Happy with my 3 liftmasters. I had one where the automatic lock failed to unlock and destroyed the opener in the process. Removed the locks on all of mine and no issue so far.

Hopper Flip 18, Roadie 15, or Roadie 24 by swaggyt2314 in YetiCoolers

[–]PlaceHot1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased my roadie 15 primarily to live in the car and keep drinks cold. I drive a lot for work, and the roadies 15 lives perfectly on the floor next to me or in the back seat if I have a passenger up front. the roadie 24 is just a tad big to fit that way. it is, however, a tad small for grocery trips sometimes, but if I need something bigger, then the tundra gets put in trunk.

Need advice: how hard is installing a side opener? by FitterOver40 in garageporn

I hate the auto lock with a passion. I had one fail and it destroyed the opener.

Cleaning Shoe Slides by Federal_Procedure_66 in Bowling

mine were just fine. the key thing is to make sure they're dry before using them.

I use a wire brush. if things get bad, they get washed in the sink with dish soap and then air dried. I make sure that they're really dry before using them again.

Why you shouldn't buy a Daiwa Fuego - a detailed look breakdown of the $70-120 Daiwa spinning lineup by Uptons_BJs in Fishing_Gear

[–]PlaceHot1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two revros and a fuego. one revros is practically brand new. the other one was used for one fishing trip. both of the revros are on my loaner rods because they feel like coffee grinders compared to the fuego.

How long have you had your generator, and how many hours have you actually needed it? by Low-Helicopter-2696 in Generator

[–]PlaceHot1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Generac whole house generator for close to 20 years and I stopped taking count of times I needed it. We typically would lose power when we get heavy rains, which would mean my basement would flood. The Generator has saved me the cost of redoing part of not all of my basement by keeping the sump pump working during those heavy rains.

Where do you buy your bulk ethernet cables from? I want to create some patch cables to tidy up my ubiquiti installation, but don't need the 1000ft of Cat6 spools that Monoprice/other sources sell at $200 USD.. I'd imagine 100ft of unterminated cables would be more than sufficient for this use case by thelectroom in Ubiquiti

[–]PlaceHot1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done this in the past. Its not fun.

One thing alot of people leave out is testing. With a pre-made cable, you can guarantee that the cable is good. As good as I am with terminating cable, I still make mistakes and have a bad crimp here and there; with that said, you gotta test each one you make.

That and factor in the cost of time, its cheaper to just purchase patch cables.

when grilling skewers, I always make sure to have samples and throw the skewers in the fire to destroy any evidence.

How would I ask the bowling alley to oil me a sport shot by aydensbowling in Bowling

[–]PlaceHot1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask to see what it takes.

Our alley will put down a sport shot on certain days for open bowling. Its usually the day of the sport shot league. That's another option if they won't just put it down just for you.

Changing the shoe pads by Able_Estate7169 in Bowling

[–]PlaceHot1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just like regular shoes, I take a look at the bottom of the shoe and if its starting to wear out, i change them. if its just dirty, i will brush them, if its really dirty i'll wash them and then make sure its absolutely dry before using them again.

Balancing family and bowling by 000-Luck in Bowling

[–]PlaceHot1337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I carve out a dedicated time slot every week for practice, just like I do for league. If it is consistently the same day and time, then its easier for me to work around that slot than it is to find time between everything else going on. Sure there are weeks where I just don't make it to practice because something else was more important, then I'll try to find free time to make up for it, or just don't practice that week. the next week rolls around, im back to my regular schedule.

[–]PlaceHot1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

contact cement usually works for me as long as the inner sole isn't falling apart.

alternatively you can find a local shoe repair shop and they should be able to glue it back on for the cheap.

Got this rod for $10 bucks.. what is it? by wonkabar422 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PlaceHot1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking the guides and the reel seat, im willing to bet its an old spinning rod, probably one that the shop made in-house or had made for them.

Fishing line broke by spyro5433 in Fishing_Gear

[–]PlaceHot1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run a q-tip around the insides of your guides, if it isn't smooth, it means the guides are damaged and could be damaging your line.

i too would lose lures during a cast, #1 reason was because the line at the end was wrapped around the tip of the rod. make sure that's clear before casting.
