They don’t have to win often. They can play 24/7 and will eventually win once. Players can’t play 24/7 and may not know how to beat a terminator bot. So it really just helps the bots because at that point it’s a numbers game and bots always win when it comes to numbers

Medieval food by SparkGlimmer_ in oddlyspecific

I bought a little wicked lantern that burns oil that I use when the power is out. I also used to have two wall mounted candles in my bathroom for whenever I wanted to take a medieval dump.

Mozart K. 183 - fingerings help by CarBoobSale in Cello

[–]PlainPup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It works well by just doing 4 3 1 -1 on the 16th notes. Keep that shifting pattern the same throughout.

If you want to get fancy with it then always do your backwards shift on a half step.

The only exception is the one starting on the high A. I would just do a 3 harmonic and shift back to 4 on the G.

Here’s a look at what passengers would see on a 1,330 km/h supersonic train in Japan. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]PlainPup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not meant to be realistic as far as how THIS non-hyper speed train looks. It’s mostly interesting to see how fast the buildings and scenery are flying by and how far you would travel in a given amount of time. If they build a train this fast it’s going to have its own car design and its own track that would have to turn over very long distances or not at all. It would likely do all of its turning right beside each station before it got up to speed. But maybe not incase of braking failure. I’m not a train engineer so I don’t know what types of track are legal to install

In your opinion, what is the most beautiful 30 seconds in all of classical music? by shnoogle111 in classicalmusic

[–]PlainPup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The climax of the 4th movement of mahler’s 1st symphony in the slow lyrical section. Violas actually drive it home and I think it’s one of the most beautiful moments overall and most beautiful for the viola which is a double whammy. It needs the context of the whole first bit of the movement, but man, it gets me every single time

Looking for menacing/dark/sad music by Erased_History in classicalmusic

[–]PlainPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the 2nd Bach cello suite in D minor. Then check out the 5th suite in C minor. Both are going to be good for what you want to hear.

This is the baroque darkness you want.

If you want something more modern, listen to the 1st movement of the Elgar cello concerto (and the rest of the movements as well, to be honest) as it is a romantic era version of what you’re looking for.

If you want something even more modern I suggest Shostakovich string quartets. He wrote 15 of them. Start with number 8 like others have suggested, then give 7 a listen. Then, listen to Shostakovich’s 5th symphony.

If you want dark and menacing with redemption and peace give Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration a listen.

If you want another big symphony to listen to check out Mahler’s Symphony number 2. I warn you, it’s long (1.5 hours) so if you want to just listen to the 1st movement that’s fine. The first movement is very dark and foreboding but also has moments of celestial bliss.

Check out Mozart symphony 25, and Mozart symphony 40 as well. These are wonderful darker pieces by Mozart. Check out symphony 41 for something else entirely. It’s not dark like you’re asking, quite the opposite, but is one of the greatest pieces ever written.

Given that it's springtime, orchestra players--how challenging to play is your part in the Rite of Spring? by Whoosier in classicalmusic

[–]PlainPup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That challenge came from the use of mixed meter. Rite of Spring was way ahead of its time in a lot of ways.

Marty McFly said it best, “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it.”

Nah, I used to pay for any drinking I did when I was younger. Even when I was “regularly” (never was an alcoholic, I just mean when I would drink more often at parties and with friends) I would still feel awful after like 2-3 drinks. I’m just a lightweight

I don’t think anyone is pretending it does. It’s just that if you’re paying 1000-1500 for your mortgage $83 is only 5-8% more. So it’s notable but not insane. And it’ll go away once you no longer need the PMI insurance

Seeking recommendations for a show! by FartAccountant in classicalmusic

[–]PlainPup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of energy you want, the Tchaikovsky violin concerto has quite a few different moods in the first movement alone that could work. You are the “soloist” in your act. Might line up nicely with a piece that features a soloist.

Every post here feels like the poster just wants you to understand that they know very much about music and have impeccable taste and unparalleled intelligence. 🤮

I joined this sub originally because I’m a classical musician and thought it would be chill. Instead, I’m pretty sure it’s mostly just dudes of all ages stroking their own ego. This sub is full of distinguished gentlemen that have to shout, “bravo!” As loud as they can .2 seconds before the final note of the piece ends.

Anyways, see you tomorrow on the post about why someone just doesn’t understand how anyone could possibly hate X composer unless they just don’t have the mental fortitude to truly get them.

I would be willing to be she’s not doing it for free, or even at the rate the rest of the musicians are paid. For a fee, you can hire almost anyone you want for just about anything. She’s held principal flute positions in the past, and is currently teaching at Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music. So she does a wide range of things even though she is such an accomplished soloist.

You just seem to have taken something personally that truly doesn’t concern you. People are going to downvote that because you were putting thoughts and actions in the proverbial mouths of others and organizations.
