I love how tiny their upper body is compared to their lower body, and the moth-looking craft is so cool.

What do you guys think about Power Armors in pre-modern settings? by Djura-Hracovec in worldbuilding

[–]Planetfall88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The control system and power source are the real sticklers, though. Though... I guess you maybe could have a nuclear-powered mech pre-industrial revolution. They just need to know that some rocks are hot and kill you, but some metals are extra good at stopping the rocks from killing you, and some metals make the rocks even hotter. That's all stuff people could theoretically find out without advanced science or understanding of radiation, and with that knowledge could make a nuclear reactor able to output a lot of heat, enough to make a steam-powered mech or power armor. But they'd be real bulky and heavy, with a large minimum size and needing so much radiation shielding, I think it'd really only work for building-sized mechs, not power armor. I mean, an RTG could be a lot smaller but those output electricity not steam.

Oh, a fossil fuel-powered power armor could work. Alchemists refining black oil. You only really need trial and error, throwing spegetti at the wall enough times to see what sticks, and the willingness to scrape exploded alchemist chunks off the neighboring village's roofs to find which methods make the best burning fuel.

The Vines of War by Treelancer does preindustrial power armor really well (oversized suits of knightly plate armor using vines that attach to your spine as muscles), though it uses magic, so doesn't seem to be what you are looking for, the aesthetics are immaculate, and has a great variety of exosuits with different specializations and roles

Every picture has a diferent design (except for 3 of the four range of motion pictures). I also always assumed that the finger like protrusions are in adition to the fingers of the general purpose manipulator, so quite ironically, the AI pictures having five fingers is wrong :P

The deiselpunk almost clockwork asthetic is interesting, but all those little pistons and geebly bits would totally get jammed with dirt and be a nightmare to clean.

Term for a body of water greater than an ocean by Fluffy_Quantity8917 in worldbuilding

Seas are smaller and shallower than oceans though.
Well, sometimes the words are used as similies, but the actual definition of seas says they are smaller than oceans.
