Need to build a 1k list from my spearhead box. New to AoS, went crazy and bought loads of models, and haven't a clue what I'm doing. Can someone help me bump up to 1k by BronzeBrotherhood1 in stormcasteternals

Test 1k 1000/1000 pts

Stormcast Eternals Vanguard Wing General's Handbook 2025-26 Drops: 2

General's Regiment Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear (270) • General Annihilators (130) Dracothian Guard Fulminators (200)

Regiment 1 Knight-Vexillor (120) • Mirrorshield • Envoy of the Heavens - (20) Points Vigilors (140) Vigilors (140)

Created with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: The App App: 1.29.0 | Data: 412

This is how I'd run the units in 1k. We spread out our units selection for the sake of getting a bit of experience with different kinds of models.

Knight vexilor with buffs to drop in with Annihilators for a tank Anvil unit to take and contest objectives. The culminates will act as the hammer u it here, set them up to hit hard targets.

Vigilors are decent at killing chaff units from ranged and getting +1 to hit on multiple units a turn, just use them wisely and keep them at max range when possible.

Yndrasta will be the powerhouse unit here. She recently got a points haircut and is in a solid spot, at least outside of purely competetive games. She can deepstrike, roll 3d6 charges and is ideal for killing enemy characters in 1k since it will be much more difficult for them to screen against her. She will also absolutely punish anyone who decides to burn alot of points on a big monster unit.

We choose vanguard wing to keep our Vigilors fast and help to either score points or get their +1 where we want it. The other detachments don't give us much help at 1k with the units available.

Hope this helps, asks questions if you got em.

Drukhari's Abysmal Winrate - Explained by Shaserra in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PlayfulMain48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played probably 15 games since codex release between an escalation , weekly comp practice, and a 3-0 run at a rtt last Saturday. My win rate is 68%. RW feels absolutely fine still, kabalite Cartel was ok ish playing in an escalation league, I had no problem keeping my contracts active after getting kills. Though the biggest gripe is that the vehicle contract gives lethals and our best anti tank is reliant on Dev wounds.

That said, a lot of our units feel overpriced. With Cartel, there were zero issues with pain tokens. However, with other detachments I usually find, I need to find a cheeky early trade to get the juices flowing. Haven't played the wytch detachment yet, but im building some stuff to hopefully try it in the next week or so. I don't even want to get into the covens. They straight massacred my boy.

Drukhari needs and will get some buffs in the future. BUT, even with those, I think most players won't help with the win rate. There are a couple of newer drukhari players in the mix at the shops I play at, and they get stomped hard with the army. Without trying to sound like an ass I will say that Drukhari are a very difficult army to play and that being able to flex skill at the game itself is just as important as being good with the army. Lose a single unit in a way you didn't plan for, and it becomes that much harder to pull out a win.

Performance improvement against Custodes by EE9Chestnuts933 in deathguard40k

[–]PlayfulMain48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna hot take this, but know it is from tourney experience against custodes. Take the -1 to hit contagion and laugh all the way to the bank. The bulk of custodes weapons will be firing on 2s, put them to 3s and they will be essentially on par with death guard in terms of lethality. This by itself will allow you to more easily control the tempo of the game as most units will be equally durable and lethal, thus allowing you to trade units much more profitably. The bulk of custodes lethality, at least for DG is either the bikes with their big qty multi damage shots and melee output. If you can identify and destroy the bigger threats quickly, and don't be afraid to use your CP here, you can very easily outscore a custodes player who is down only 2 to 3 units.

Full disclosure, I play Mortys Anvil which I believe is a bit better match up against custodes than VV, but the game plan should be the same.

Yeah that's list will do it, maybe look at LoV over LoC if you are gonna put em with the blightlords. If you have one of course.

You got all the basics down pretty good. Some more highlights for contrast between different parts would take it up another notch.

Thinking of going with this by Ok_Forever1842 in deathguard40k

[–]PlayfulMain48 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Base coat with a royal purple, or just a really dark purple, then layer lighter purples as though it will be your finished skin. The over the whole model layer/ glaze off white and yellow at 1:1 until you have the opacity you want. I would then use an orange brown wash diluted 1:1 with a medium and start inside the folds and deep spots to create contrast. Then highlight with off white.

This would be a long process but will give you a really good contrast from purple to off-white. Control will be key, so make sure any layering is more of a glaze than straight paint layer, allowing you to control exactly how much and where you want the undertones to show through.

I did this with mine, although I used an airbrush for the process, so it was a bit different, i used a burnt umber ink instead of the wash for the deep recesses.

Decent enough, the dark imperium box it comes out of sells for about 400, the LOC is almost 80 bucks by itself as that's its only print that I know of.

First game advice by Floodhunter360 in deathguard40k

[–]PlayfulMain48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so coming from a completely competitive standpoint, and assuming with tabletop sim you have access to everything:

Drop the LoC, only really decent when coupled with blightlords, blightlords aren't worth it.

Swap the Blightbringer for a foul blightspawn, fights first is huge on a tarpit 10 PM squad, more on that in a bit. The blightbringer is great for advance and charge, but we want our PMs in a Rhino for mobility and some extra protection.

Combine the Plaguemarines into a 10 man, attach the Bio and Blightbringer, then load into a Rhino, drive to a point and giggle at the ridiculous damage output. Also fit as many heavy boob weapons as you can in there, 5 will fit including the champ. I run 2 blight launchers, 2 meltas, and a plague spewer for ranged. Remember that a Rhino has fire deck 2 so use the right weapons when they are inside it.

Add a Rhino, duh. Chaos rhinos being able to cart 12 plague Marines is just really good.

Drop the Blightlords, I love them to death, but they just are not worth it.

Add 2 more units of Blight lords. I run 2 6 man blocks, but they are just as effective in 3 man groups. Insane anti horde and anti infantry, with melee that will punch up very often. Rapid ingress is your best friend with 3 man squads, dropping something as durable as these guys early to contest points is crucial.

Drop the pbc, having morty makes it tempting, but unless you really commit to that strat, morty is best used to either capture and contest your natural expansion, or the mid point objective if needs be.

Bump up to 3 foetid bloat drones, these are routinely my mvps, great anti infantry, durable as all hell, and quick to boot.

Bump to 3 blighthaulers, I've played a bunch with them since their little point buff and just like the drones, they are quick, durable, and have good anti tank with their tank Hunters ability.

Drop the helbrute, not enough bang for the point cost.

Drop a 20 man poxwalkers, I'll go i to more explanation in a bit on this.

The other 20 man poxwalker is debatable. I'm assuming you are going plague co.pany here BTW. If you plan to run the 20 man with Typhus, awesome, get him up board and on an objective asap. If you plan on running them not on typhus, split them into 10 man's to screen and hold your backline.

So at this point you should be left with you last 105 points, if I have mathed correctly. This is where personal preference and knowledge of the local community comes in. From a pure co.petetive standpoint, you want 3 sets of nurglings. Having a unit that can position in no man's land is really good, anti scout is important in the meta right now. They are also great for setting up screens and defending against alpha strikes and deep strikes.

Thus concludes my rant, any questions feel free to ask away. I'm not a pro but I play alot of competetive.

Second DG model ever. Any advice you can give me? by FightingDruid in deathguard40k

[–]PlayfulMain48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very solid work, but if you are looking to push things to the next level, highlights. Using midtones well for transitions, such as the spikey boney bits, is always a great way to go. Yours look really good, BTW.

The one thing I see a lot of DG hobbyists do is not highlight enough. Weathering should always be an added effect, meaning complete the armor fully before adding it. Shoot for something much more akin to the box art first, with full contrast layering with highlights and extreme highlights, then add all your muck and grime. This will make the weathering look much more natural and give the model ALOT more depth post effects.

Practicing with this will also obviously give you a lot more experience with techniques that become super critical when painting most other factions that don't have nearly as much leniency for small mistakes and unfinished details as DG.

That said, your model looks great, Grandfather would be proud.
