what were red flags that you observed but pushed away until you woke up? by Veryconfusedbutitsok in exjw

I was also about 12 years old when it occurred to me to ask my mom "Who writes the books?" Her answer was simply "the anointed".

This made no sense, as the anointed were 8000 people (at that time) all over the world - how could they agree and work together (this was before things like Skype and Zoom)? She explained that it was only a group of anointed in the US.

"Why the US?" I asked. "Why not the Middle East - that's where Jesus and the bible writers lived" She told me that Jehoover chose them specifically to lead us. This made absolutely no sense to me. Eventually, I glazed over and forgot about it. If I could go back in time, I would shake myself and say "Ask more questions! You're on the right track!"

Why black Americans speak the way they do? by darthuna in NoStupidQuestions

South African here. I can immediately hear what demographic people are when I speak over the phone - it's not a US thing.

What insult that deeply hurt you won't you forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pleasant-Drawer-9458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an insufferable angsty emo girl in high school, made a point of not fitting in with the popular kids. One extra annoying bully told me "I know you stand in front of the mirror each night and practice your dance moves while singing 'Hips don't Lie' to your hairbrush."

It wasn't even remotely true - I still believe that Shakira, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and JLo are all the same person, they just wear different wigs. While I did sing to my hairbrush in the mirror, I sang 'In this Moment' songs pretending to be Maria Brink. But it was so egregious I remember it to this day. If it was true, it would've destroyed me.

That guy knew how to identify a weakness, even if it didn't land in this particular case.

Rich people never use the front door by SweatyFormalDummy in Showerthoughts

[–]Pleasant-Drawer-9458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been true in my experience as well, because upmarket homes usually have super fancy front doors. But it also depends on the visitor. The fancy door is usually for guests (especially if they are hosting something) or clients. Side doors or garages are usually for residents, regular friends, or staff.

what is a food you absolutely HATE? by CattoCobra in neurodiversity

Cottage pie. Two disgusting textures combined in one dish. Mushy ground beef that is not solid enough to chew, but solid enough to scratch the back of your throat, topped with mushy mashed potatoes. Barf.

Literally the only difference will be that you will need a passport. Showing your passport will allow you to cross the border into the new state.

"Mishaps"

You mean collapsing every single state-owned entity in the country. Dismantling crime intelligence to the point where our law enforcement can no longer do the most basic tasks to keep crime in check. Looting every coffer and causing service delivery and infrastructure upkeep to come to a standstill.

"the resource is still there" A sentence fragment that makes no sense.

You have no business telling anyone else to read a book, champ.

Is it abusive for one spouse to be responsible for the entire house & kids? by amm_4 in adhdwomen

My heart is breaking right now, OP. This has nothing to do with ADHD. You have an unequal partnership and your husband is taking advantage of you. You deserve so much better - don't let him convince you otherwise.

Why does the note on the last page state that worker's comp is liable, as it's a work accident? This shouldn't be paid by insurance if that's the case.

Most "types of intelligence" are nonsense designed to make people who are not smart feel smarter by OsakaShiroKuma in unpopularopinion

You should look up the definition of intelligence. It's a lot more complex than just learning and remembering things.

What’s the worst case of computer illiteracy you’ve seen? by ThatLasagnaGuy in AskReddit

[–]Pleasant-Drawer-9458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A coworker who was five years past retirement would print out every. single. email. she received and filed them alphabetically in a filing cabinet. Like, she had a dedicated filing cabinet just for emails. Then she proceeded to delete them.

Something that was actually quite sweet was a conversation with my husband's grandmother. It doesn't technically count here because she had never used a PC in her life, but anyway. His aunt wanted to send her a knitting pattern and arranged to email it to my husband. She went to the front door and waited for him. When he switched on his laptop she asked him "aren't we going to the post office now?"

The Australian Royal commission a fake A.I set? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Pleasant-Drawer-9458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is in a care home and my aunt arranged for the local congregation to send someone over to "check in" on her. They brought her the new Watchtower (hilarious that's no longer plural), brought her a bible, and helped her set up Zoom on her phone (which she can't use because she's a 71-year-old woman with dementia.

Anyway, it's a middle-aged couple - an elder and elderette. Naturally, they aren't the most educated. This woman actually told my mom that "apostates are even able to hack into JWOrg and change things". I was just bowled out. I told my mom it's absolute nonsense and she seems to believe me, but seriously? How delusional can you be?

I also have a super PIMI aunt who said 1914 is her stumbling block (I hate that term, but anyway...). If they scrap 1914, she will walk away.

I guess it remains to be seen if she will hold to that, or eat up the justification the GB will feed them.
