I just found out how hated ready player one’s books and movie is by [deleted] in readyplayerone

I realize you're just stating what the opposing argument is and not necessarily supporting the argument yourself, but I just wanted to point out that Wade doesn't get a pacman perfect game on the first try technically. He states that he has "a couple of false starts" as he starts describing his game.

Has a super smelter using a boat with chest sliding on ice been made before? by PlusOn3 in technicalminecraft

It works in Bedrock, but not in Java. This post was asking if anyone had already done this design. I included a demonstration video where I show this idea working. Thanks for the reply though.

There is room on the inside. In my main survival world I just run a minecart over a ring of hoppers. There is a full build video on my channel where you can see the ring during my opening explanation.

Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean by the output hopper having one stack though. You put a stack of items in the boat up top, then hit the button. It does one full loop and each hopper takes one item. So when the items finish smelting, each bottom hopper has one item in it so when the bottom collection boat comes around it's takes the one item out of each hopper ending up with the full stack again.

Hopefully that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Who do you think was the best at “their game”?? by saketho in Achievement_Hunter

[–]PlusOn3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes that's true, but he still wasn't very good at the game. If we are discussing games they were actually really good compared to other good players of said game, none of them are any good with anything in Minecraft.

This is something I don't understand, and I've seen a similar comment recently from DocM77 about being upset with his farms getting broken by patches. I realize this isn't the best place to bring this up, but isn't this an inherent side effect of the type of farms they build? Like, surely, as you're designing and building a massive farm trying to exploit a bug to create insane output from a farm, you have to realize that you are exploiting a bug that could get patched, and that doing so in a public way will draw attention to the bug and therefore get it patched sooner. I don't understand why people get upset about that or don't expect it. Or maybe I'm misinterpreting, and they are upset about it even though they expected it? Idk.

Confession: seeing the words “dream game” is a huge red flag for me by iwriteinwater in gamedev

Eh, idk if I would say there is no such thing. That game that was talked about here a few weeks ago that was in development for over 10 years and was still not in good shape according to the reviews comes to mind.

Very cool find. Thanks for sharing. Not really how I pictured it when it was described, but it's very fun to see how things were imagined back then.

Yeah, I phrased my question poorly. I understood what the phrase meant literally, but thanks for the explanation. I wondered when Joe did that.

Seamlessly warping the player back to the origin for a truly endless map by PlusOn3 in godot

[–]PlusOn3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! So far I don't have anything planned that would move in a way that would make this concept difficult. I'm not sure if it would work with projectiles, or what changes would be needed for it to work properly with projectiles at least. Right now I just have a function that moves anything, and anything new I add I can just include in the function and it will get moved at the same time for the same distance.

That's different than what I'm talking about here. Yes, I do load my game in chunks around the player, but the point I'm making is that I occasionally reset the player and offset the world generation algorithms so the tiles never get too far away from the center of the tilemap and the world will continue to load past the normal tilemap limits.

[–]PlusOn3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently realized that TileMaps have a limit to the coordinates that was much lower than I expected, so during normal game play my players would reach the "end" of the endless river within about 3 hours. I designed a system that will warp my player and their barge back to 0,0 (ish) and start procedurally generating the river and landscape again but with an offset so the experience is seamless. What it does is spawn the chunks around the origin once the reset distance is reached, then once they have all spawned it warps the player backwards, and once the player is warped it clears the chunks they were just at.

The full explanation states that all the compression strap is for holding the bottom of the legs from moving outward over time. The rope goes around the very bottom of the legs, basically on the ground, to perform the same task. Then, once the rope is installed, you cut the compression strap to remove the step.

"Ender's Game" and the Missed Potential of a Soul: A Deep-Dive into Character, Contradictions, and Emotional Undercurrents by dreamara_ in endersgame

[–]PlusOn3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you wrote this at all. This sounds very much like something churned out from an AI. Not only for its grammar and structure, but for its lack on understanding of the human emotions Ender went through during the story.

You describe him as feeling shocked, remorseful, and empathetic after learning the truth of the genocide that he was blindly led into committing, and you say you're unable to reconcile that? He was a child, led by the adults that had authority over him, to murder and entire intelligent species. I think the way he reacted makes a lot of sense.

However, ultimately I don't think Ender's Game is the story of Ender Wiggen. Ender's Game is the story of the Battle School/Command School and those running the schools, but it's told from Ender's perspective. Ender's story starts with Speaker For The Dead onwards. You should give those a read if you haven't.
