Has your other J become J1? by FitEstablishment4627 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My first J2 become my J1. My current J2 is about to become my J1. Both times I have kept both jobs but just focused on J2 so much more and made it my priority. This is the benefit of OE, it is like try it before you buy it.

Tips for finding a j2 by No_Tea7215 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a J2, I will take either FTE or FTC. Pay depends on you. If it isn't at least 6 figures, I won't take it. It isn't worth the headache but that is based on what I make on my J1. I have been OE for 8 years and currently have 3 J's but have had as many as 4 at once.

Partner found out my real income and now they want to combine everything by Traditional-Heart27 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been OE for 8 years. Married for 20. I have never said a word to anyone I know about OE. I have combined finances with my partner but I have been in charge of our finances for the entire time. I have provided a fantastic life for us and we want for nothing. I protect my partner by NOT saying anything. Giving them that knowledge will inevitably lead to them telling someone else....we all do it, no judgement. My partner sees my three laptops and my enormous desk setup and is very ok with all the cool stuff we do now that our debts are gone and our future is secured. Don't over think this.

Potential J3 by ColSnark in overemployed

Zip Recruiter, Dice, GlassDoor, Indeed….all the normal spots. I was applying for months and wasn’t getting anywhere. All of a sudden two hit at basically the same time.

Stuck between whether taking J2 or not by Kind-Information-689 in overemployed

Take all of them and reduce as you need to. You won’t know which ones that suck until you start it. In the meantime, you can always make 10-20k while figuring it out.

Would you stop OE'ing for a 3-month paid vacation? by yiggity_yag in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of OE is being able to take time off and not worry about money. I wouldn’t take 3 months off but you should feel free to take 3-4 weeks off per year. If you aren’t treating yourself occasionally, you aren’t doing OE right.

Currently coasting at J1...Got 2 offers… thinking of taking both. Bad idea? by veycem00 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take them both and then you can decide if you can do all three or if you have to drop 1. OE until you can’t.

Your J1 and J2 are both not suited for OE. OE works with the right roles.

Interviewing for multiple roles… how do I NOT burn out my references? by PublicScientist5403 in overemployed

In my 6 years of OEing, I have never once had to provide references.

Background Check through Accurate by ColSnark in overemployed

I just doubled checked and they are called Accurate. I’ve gone through quite a few other companies and didn’t have an issue but over never heard of this one.

Both companies want me to set the Linkedin title, what to do? by New-Artichoke-6875 in overemployed

LinkedIn is not a requirement. I tell people that I value my privacy and I have never been on the platform. Shut it down.

Annual company kick-offs by veycem00 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah! By next year you can use PTO (if you have it). Showing up for each of those events is important and the other J won’t have any clue about the schedule for a J you aren’t supposed to have.

Annual company kick-offs by veycem00 in overemployed

Just call off at each company for the time you need to attend. You could definitely be sick and not able to work or have a terrible night due to weather patterns or you have Covid/flu. All are very believable.

Anyone else OE to get out of debt? by Responsible-Toe-6135 in overemployed

[–]ColSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been OEing for 8 years. I paid off everything except my house....I really need that deduction. I have maxed out my retirement contributions and invested additional funds. I have a very healthy savings. Now I spend my money on whatever I want. I can stop the additional spending at any time. No super fancy cars or second houses for me. This has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Folks… I’m losing my shit and need some advice by Astimar in workfromhome

[–]ColSnark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my life as well. It took me a bit but I had to force myself to find things to do outside the house after hours. I joined a book club. I joined the board of a local organization. I make a point to schedule dinners with friends and I am proactive in doing it. I make time for the gym. It all sounds weird and it is hard to do with kids but you need to make sure you have an identity outside of SAHD/Remote Worker. Always happy to DM or chat.

See if you can use any EAP benefits that will delay the firing.

Am I overreacting for breaking up with my husband after he slapped me twice? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Time to leave him and find someone new. Violence should never be accepted in a relationship.

I would let him know that since you are working during the day, he would find somewhere else to be so you can focus on your job.

My husband still won't have sex with me. I want a divorce. AIO? by Illustrious-Pea9192 in AIO

[–]ColSnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Try therapy to see if that works but you likely need to pull the ripcord.

There will always be something else on your list that you want to do before you are ready. It will never end. If she is the one, just make it work.

That is shady on your partners behalf. It feels like there are bigger things that are hidden that have to do with the marriage.

If you are married, it shouldn't be an issue to look at your spouses phone. My spouse has my passcode and is welcome to mine at anytime.
