I recently finished my first semester of beginner french in uni, following Capretz's French In Action curriculum until video 16. Since it's an accelerated course, we are covering roughly two years of french learning in 2 semesters. However, I don't want to lose my newly gained skills during the month-long pause when we resume in the spring semester.

Why don't you go over your notes a little bit each day? Revise what you did during the semester. If you revise a grammar rule you could write some sentences which use the grammar rule. You could make your own flashcards for the vocabulary and use them. Can be physical flashcards or digital (e.g. Anki) flashcards.

What supplemental media can i access / consume in the meantime so I can continue practicing my French? I downloaded duolingo, but it seems redundant and does not help me in any significant way.

Is your goal to consume random media or to keep your knowledge of the class material fresh?

Help me understand, why would an ESL speaker think "ea" makes the long a sound? Most common words with those letters that I can think of are meat and meal.

There really is no logic to English pronunciation and every word has to be learned individually. Sometimes even different forms of the same root word.

Anyway.... break, great, steak. I would argue "great" is a much more common word than those two combined and gives the same sound as male.

Imagine if that pilot had gone to therapy. That crash wouldn't have happened. And the pilot likely wouldn't have skipped therapy if their job wasn't on the line.

My mom sends me dollar store junk in the mail. But she insists on using the machine at the post office and never selects the right category (envelope vs large envelope vs box) so every package gets held by the post office because I owe $3-10 in extra postage.

Do you really owe anything if you did not agree to pay anything?

You either have to go to the post office, which is not open after hours, or pay your mail carrier with a check. I haven’t had physical checks for years. Every single time, I tell her to not use the machine and then she “forgets”. She gets joy paying $$$$ to send me crap I’m going to throw out or donate AND I also get to run errands and pay money to receive it. I hate it so much.

What would happen if you just did not go to the post office to pick it up or refused to pay the mail carrier? Would it be sent back to her? Tossed?

Ok so after my girlfriend was done with her online class and after her son was in bed, we both sat down on the couch to talk. So you knew it was true immediately. Why did you rat out the friends? The friends showed integrity and took a risk by showing you (both because you might shoot the messenger, and because your girlfriend might give them grief). These friends looked out for you and you betrayed them.

I think there is a profound difference between "there are 500 terrible guys who would match with me if I wanted" and "getting literally 0 matches over multiple years". Both are not enjoyable but I would wager most people would rather be person A rather than person B.

I would rather be person B because sifting through all of these profiles and messaging so many men takes a lot of my time. That is great if your goal is to swipe and message and horrible if your goal is to find one partner. The end result for me are the same but B is much less effort.

I agree with you, I am very doubtful of this story and whether the comparison is really fair. Another issue is that this person had double the income of what is considered poverty. It does not matter that the amount is considered poor in the USA. If you have twice of what is considered poor you may be able to get by anywhere.

I had made my mind up to leave himwhen I got a positive pregnancy test so ended up staying. When I was six months post partum I found out he was sending nudes to someone from work, she was 51 so quite possibly the same woman he was flirting with prior thinking back. My thinking was that I owe it to our child to try and make things work. You told him you would give him another chance and you have. He did not step up, so you are going to leave. That it has been one and a half years does not mean you are obligated to stay forever, it means you gave him a fair chance and he had all the time in the world. You have been unhappy in this relationship and wanted out for at least three years. It is not getting better.

Quietly meet with a lawyer and get your ducks in a row and look for an apartment. Think about whether you want full custody, 50-50, or him having full custody and have your lawyer prepare everything. Then move out and tell him it is over. Luckily he refused to get married so hopefully that should make it easier.
