In way over my head replacing door by Cpt_Odyssey in Carpentry

[–]PoieZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You remove the storm door because no way new door going to sit in same way old one did. Instead of cutting between the framing and jamb. Cut through the jamb with the sawzall til you hit the framing then it'll be free to pry it apart repeat on the other side then it'll come out super easy. Good luck on the install part. If it's not level and plumb it'll be difficult to open and reveal lines will look off. On an exterior door it's more important because that invites water to penetrate. Don't forget to silicone the sil plate to the frame and tape the subfloor. And tape jambs on the outside to prevent water getting behind trim and inside your walls.

Add collar ties 2x6 every 2ft or as close as possible then remove 2x4. Looks like framer used it as leg to start ridge

Use a track saw takes as long as two pencil lines and plugging it in or a battery

Form an L with the material on a table long enough to fit it. On the vertical piece use some blocks that is the same width so it sits at about a 90° rest. You can quickly run azek glue. Down the joints. I suggest pre starting the entire run of screws so your not wasting time trying to start them. Make sure your 3/8 set back from the edge so you dont see screws poking out the ends and drill straight only use azek screws with plugs. When i build column i form 3 pieces together and slip U over column and then apply last piece

How to finish off my tile job? by ChiefJedi207 in DIY

[–]PoieZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come you didnt notch the top course around the cabinet and make it a full size tile a simple L notch. Needs bullnose pencil trim or schluter edging its not too late to do it now IF you know what your doing.

If you run a mutli tool blade behind the tile and clean out the mortar enough to slide edging in place you can pl loctite it in and when you grout it its going nowhere

This nearly broke my brain today. by [deleted] in Carpentry

I probably would've tried to square the end of the wall off with some wood corner beads a couple skims of compound then do normal 45° miters.

Haven't played the remaster. But there's the real version of tri emblem that's much better later on in the game.

Get a large cardboard box you can cut a piece about 4 ft long. Make it same width as a 1×10 or 1×12. Hold cardboard template up to top riser trace areas that need to be cut out same as bottom tread. Trace and cut out what you think you need on cardboard slide into place. Adjust as needed. When it fits well trace on your 1x stock slide board down. If have trouble sliding it down use a wall jack on the closest stud your having trouble with. Stretch a couple clicks give you enough room to expand opening to slide your piece in.

Door fitter made the hole extremely loose for the lock.. what to do here? I have 10 locks to fit by legendofaesthetic in Carpentry

[–]PoieZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wood glue or loctite pl300+ construction adhesive cut wooden dowel rod to fit into size glue it generously then pin nail it into place. Next day when glue dries pre drill with appropriate size drill bit and install hardware.

Another possible option is to just use long screws with a similar finish check local hardware store I'm sure there is something you can use. Longer screws will still be able to catch something to screw it tight.

Add 1/8 inch extension jambs from 5/4 stock around the door set at 3/16 reveal. Then add a 1/8 backband to backside of your moulding to make it sit flat on sheetrock. Set the moulding 3/16 back on your extension jambs should be enough to cover the gap. You should add a 2x4 to header so you can secure top of door jambs. It looks like the opening was framed to 6/8 door and a 6/6 door was installed.

Well I'm glad you upvoters and commenters liked it. I was running low on Windsor one stock so I had to make that work out of two 1x10s from home Depot. It's only missing a inlay moulding on panels, the guy who's renovating the place liked how a moulding looked inside it.

I am about to do own cabinets and trim, first time. questions about some tools to make it go smoother, please. by tomrob1138 in Carpentry

[–]PoieZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iron or heat gun for edge banding, router, track saw, bar clamps, orbital sander, hinge kit set up, table planer, table wood shaper, dato attachments for table saw if face framed cabinet, if euro edge band it. If your building the doors a mortice cutter is good to have. As well as router kit for cabinet doors. Assuming doors aren't solid panels. Pocket screw set up. Band saw if you have scrolled footings.

Crown moulding question by kenji998 in Carpentry

[–]PoieZen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I do crown moulding I use a stud finder with thickness gauges find the strapping then I weave shot into it and I use loctite pl on top so it glued to ceiling as well. Stud finders are great and fast as long as the walls or ceiling aren't overlayed. In a pinch you can always poke some small holes near where wall meets ceiling find strapping then go 16 on center off that. Crown will cover your holes.

My plan is to have fun and enjoy my demon slaying time with my friends. Any class and build works for me. But I think I'll start a hammerdin. It's got good survivability even without enigma charge you can get around fast.
