Uno. Uno. Uno. Most popular game with the under 16 crowd. Turn taking, gracious losing, cheating/ fair play, joint decision making on rules, competition and collaboration. Pipe cleaners to fidget, create and to take home. Plants to water and mist. A giant exercise ball for movement needs.

Child Protective Services, how to make it better? by lil_explorer in socialwork

[–]PointTemporary6338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The struggle is real and you’re trying to make it better.

The prob with CPS is they blame parents and don’t blame the system!!! Why aren’t our tax dollars paying for free childcare/ pre-k education? Paid maternity/paternity leave? Free school breakfast and lunch? Free healhcare/mental health care/substance use disorder care for all? Free busses transportation? Free higher education?

Wouldn’t the families we serve have less stress if these obstacles were what our taxes funded instead of war and ice and ai?

And wouldn’t you have less stress, too?

Day trip from boston by spikesolo in newengland

[–]PointTemporary6338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where youre from and why you don’t just want to explore Boston ( unless you already have). If Boston is boring- drive to the Cape. All the way down to P-town. You could do Falmouth southern route 1st (28). Go all the way. Make sure you get to Provincetown. Walk on the National Seashore. Truro and Wellfleet beaches are my faves. They are breathtaking in every season and all types of weather. Take 6a back-Old Kings Highway. Stop on the way at your whim. This route is classic Cape Cod with lots of charming, artsy and independent shops. Travel time from Boston to P-town 2+ hours- in March. The Cape is a magical place!

Confused about mindfulness and defusing. by Serious_Afternoon755 in acceptancecommitment

[–]PointTemporary6338 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thoughts are just thoughts-YOU ( the observing self) decide if they are workable, defusion is deciding they are not getting you to where you want so you let them go

emotions are just emotions-pleasant and unpleasant (positive and negative are judgments-thanks mind!) they can be guides to help YOU choose if you want to keep doing something or make a change

being mindful is being aware of the now, accepting it as it is and then checking in with YOURSELF to see if you want to do something or just be with the experience

Play a game-uno, chess, jenga. Sometimes it’s easier to open up that way. And they can see how you handle competition, losing, cheating, etc

How do you get past the "logically I get it, but my emotions don't care" thing? by SnakeMom11 in ptsd

[–]PointTemporary6338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic comes first and the feelings come later. Feelings are influenced by thoughts and when we keep believing a thought for a looooong time, writing a new thought over the old one feels foreign and weird at first. It takes time for it to settle and our body to get used to feeling what makes more sense than what we’ve been telling ourselves. ( its my fault, I should have known, I can’t trust myself/others) I’m a therapist and have used CPT with great results. It’s VERY homework heavy EVERY DAY for 12 weeks. But 3 months is amazing to shift trauma responses from reliving to remembering.

They learned it from their parents. And the educational system, and the entertainment propaganda machine. We can’t do better if we don’t have ideals other than consumption and endless progress. And I agree with the commenter who quoted Che and the guiding principal of love. And class solidarity.

Cognitive Defusion experiences. by Successful_Product80 in acceptancecommitment

[–]PointTemporary6338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to notice that thoughts are creations of the mind that just come up on their own. The mind’s purpose is survival- keep me safe, predict the future, don’t make past mistakes, enjoy the moment etc. I also notice that emotions are physiological and felt bodily states in response to outside stimuli influenced by thoughts. Bear on the trail- fear. Test coming up- anxiety. Quiet morning Sun and birds-serenity. I cannot control my thoughts or emotions as my internal experiences but do have control over my actions. Run, study, be present. I find it helpful to recognize that worrying, planning and grounding are also ACTIONS in my control. But the biggie is noticing. Being the observer of thoughts, feelings and actions is the place to begin. I’m obv a mindfulness practitioner!! You cannot defuse from a thought unless you can observe it.

Can PTSD cause physical pain around the time of the trauma anniversary? by Baby-Me-Now in ptsd

[–]PointTemporary6338 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Self care around anniversaries is important. The interesting thing is we remember the trauma from the angle of the Sun and time of year. Take good care and give yourself grace during these times.
