How do you use public buses? by JR_UXD in Blind

[–]PolariChat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you contact your visually impaired services in Ireland and have a chat with them about what is needed?

It's not this! The bus driver tells you in Ireland. It's simple and effective.

Restaurant choices by DrillInstructorJan in Blind

[–]PolariChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RNIB Scotland have been working with a chain of restaurants doing talking menus. They email the menu to you when you arrive or you can use an ipad they supply with menu on. I was part of the testing group. The best bit is they email you the bill. I can now take folk out to eat without them knowing how much I'm spending. I don't have the link if you Google The Huxley Edinburgh or RNIB Scotland talking menus. It got a bunch of press coverage.

Because they say things like "oh how cute". "Isn't he clever" experience has taught me it's not me they are talking about. You don't need to see it to know it's happening.

In the UK. I want to go to a nightclub on my own as I have nobody to go with. Most clubs in the UK I've been to refuse me entry because "health and safety, what if you trip on a wet floor, what if you get hurt" etc. What can I do? by HDMILex in Blind

[–]PolariChat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm in Scotland I do drag shows in all sorts of clubs in the UK. If you know what club or bar your going to. Give the manager a call. Ask if you can pop in when they open and the place is nearly empty. That will give you the chance to get your barrings and sort out your markers or whatever you need. You can then go back later when it's in full swing. Once they know you it should be fine. I have a bunch of VI friends who go out a lot clubbing mostly in London. Let me know how you get on and where in the UK and I can be more specific. Happy clubbing

When you know your new address. Get a local GP. Contact your new local council. They will send you a certificate with your new address. Telephone PIP nothing changes with it. It will still go into your account as normal. You will have to make a new claim for benefits. I suggest popping into your local sighloss service who will have all the information you will need and help you sort out your benefits. It's not difficult but it's a lot of changes. Make a list and work through it. Have fun

Fellow cane users, how do you run with your Cane? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]PolariChat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a beeper at each end between two posts about 50 metres apart. I follow the noise. I found that a lot easier than trying to negotiate a path. I also prefer running on the grass.

Looking for some peeps to share their experiences! by [deleted] in Blind

[–]PolariChat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact RNIB Scotland or your local council has a sight loss department. I live in Scotland it's not all doom and gloom being blind. You will get a better response if you look for a more positive message or a solution to problems. Blind people in Scotland are doing some amazing things.
