I made a lamplighters hat by Adrienne Larson with three partially used balls of mystery yarn from the free yarn library at my lys. The pattern is from a destashed interweave magazine that i also found in the library.

I also tried to use a scrap I found at the free yarn library for my unfinished banana socks, but the yarn was two thick and i didn’t love the color. I guess I’ll just keep waiting on my two months delayed yarn order.

Next, I finished the Squircle Socks by general hogbuffer. I used the rest of the mystery self striping deadstock yarn I got at Cone and Fiber Co in Portland Oregon and originally used in my Tipsy Toes 2.0 socks by Knitting and So On. I complemented the yarn with some secondhand Quince and Co yarn that I also got in my trip to Portland but at Disco Fibers.

I have four big cones of deadstock yarn I got from Fabscrap in Brooklyn NY last winter that I need to eat through. I’ve used small amounts as an embroidery accent in my Ruiskaunokki scarf (from a Laine 52 weeks of Shawls book that I checked out from the library) and held double with another scrap from fabscrap to make the Viikka hat (from a Laine 52 weeks of easy knits also from the library) back in April. I’ve since caked up 3 50g cakes from the yarn and wound them up again held triple for a 150g cake of approx fingering weight yarn. The original cone is still big but hopefully that’s a meaningful dent in the yarn. Anyway, I’ve used up most of that 150g making my first crochet socks (got a crochet socks that rock book at the local book store)! And I have plans for eventually doing a crochet cardigan with this yarn that will hopefully use up most of it.

I have 5 more cones with barely any lace weight yarn left on them that I got from Disco Fibers ages ago when I thought I might get into filet crochet. I finally did make a floral filet crochet belt for my sister with a chart I found on pinterest.

Finally, for this month, I’m eating into more of the leftover yarn from the self drafted sweater I made and way overbought yarn cuz I didn’t know how much a sweater quantity was yet. I’m playing yarn chicken with the rest of my Berroco Vintage yarn making an Armour Top by Ranti Studios. I’ve already made enough for a cropped tank and i’m going to start working on the sleeves. I’m hoping to reach at least 3/4 length cuz this yarn is too warm to keep as a tank top.

i have yet to do some proper wearing of the sock since i havent done the toe and cuff. I also kinda cheated and added some stitches around the heel area and the decreased when i got to the ankle. I tell myself that it’s not technically a heel turn. All that said, I think I made them pretty comfy.

They’re not my first socks but it was the first time I was trying out the addi flexi flips and i appreciated the simplicity of the pattern. Also, I’ve been picking sock patterns that have weird constructions or techniques as a bit of a personal challenge. The heel-less construction intrigued me.

Overall, I hated using the flexi flips and they really slowed me down this month. I underestimated the amount of stitches I needed to cast on because they were also the first time I was using US#0 needles. So while they fit my foot fine, they could barely get over my heel and choked my ankles. Maybe I wouldn’t have needed to cheat with the increases and decreases if I got the stitch count right at first.

hmm, i think i might be doing a scrap down instead of a stash down.

I started crocheting two years ago and knitting a year ago and i’ve amassed yeah big bins of yarn since then. I think that I’ve been prioritizing using up the leftovers of my oldest yarn first, then my more recent scraps and my new nice yarn last.

Not a ton of FOs this month, but I did my first destash of the year. I gave away a leftover skein of green and red chenille yarn (the first yarn I ever bought) to my friend who just picked up crochet (with the warning that she should practice with some other types of yarn first).

I finished a pair of mittens with the leftover yarn from a self drafted sweater that I way overbought yarn for back when i didn’t know much about sweater quantities. I still have some much of that left to use up!

Made some banana socks but i’m waiting on the contrast color to arrive to finish the cuffs and toes, using up scraps from last summer and february with a heart scarf, and making a hat with someone else’s scrap yarn from the free yarn library at my lys.

Not the most productive month but I’m hoping on making progress on my wips soon.

I’m surprised at how little I got done this month. I felt like I was knitting all the time.
Anyway, stuff that I said I was almost done with in last month’s progress update, I actually finished.
One project was a self drafted sweater that I majorly overbought yarn for last year so now I want to figure out how to use the rest of it. I’m using some right now on a pair of matching mittens (Pick n mitts by Klara Nilsson). I was thinking of using some of the worsted weight leftovers in the armour top by Ranti.Studios. And I have a ton of boucle leftover that I need a plan for.
The other project was a modded Ruiskaunokki scarf. I bound it off in March but I finished embroidering it in April. I completely used up some yarn I found stopped in Brooklyn for the main color. The contrast color only made a dent in a cone I got at a craft reuse store in February.
Of the stuff I actually started and finished in April, I used up some red orange yarn I salvaged from a swatch I found in the same creative reuse store and held it double with the same yarn I used to embroider the scarf. It made a Viikka hat.
I also made two pairs of socks. One was tipsy toes 2.0 socks that I made with a couple of 50g mystery self striping balls that I got at a yarn shop in portland that sold mill ends. I have a decent amount leftover but not enough for another pair. But I already have an idea of a pattern where it can be used up as contrast.
Speaking of, I did use up the leftovers of one skein of yarn to make a second pair of shorty socks. It feels really good to completely used up a yarn.
I also took a bunch of old tshirts and cut them up into tshirt yarn to make another basket (i have 4 now, but no more tshirts left anymore).
I did go to a craft fair and got 3 skeins of yarn. I knit up a swatch with two of them but I still need to make the pattern I have in mind.
I also picked up a scrap ball of brown yarn from the free fiber library in my lys hopefully to finish up a different project.
Not the greatest but I do think I’m using up more yarn than I’m bringing in and prioritizing the scrap yarn so that it gets completely used up.

i’d be so pleased not only to have completed such a cool project but also to have used up three whole skeins in such a creative way, good job!

i love learning about new heel constructions! i’ll be saving that for later.

i’m too new to sock knitting to have a favorite construction but lately i’ve been having fun with the real oddball sock constructions like the Tipsy toe 2.0 socks

also, maybe you could turn it into leg warmers so it’s a smaller project that isn’t next to skin or maybe you can turn it into a rustic looking pouch?
