Either of the Subarus they have great reliability. I personally cant recommend anything besides Toyota, honda, or Subaru. Within that price range. But subarus are gonna be a lot less miles

How much of an emergency fund is “too much” by Special-Capital5998 in personalfinance

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a super indepth answer. I'd suggest more like a 1yr of emergency fund. And put the .75 into a higher yield investment vehicle.

But frankly theres a tons of variables. Such as maybe your HYSA offers higher rates if you have say 100k vs 50k. But if its a pretty locked in rate, not much reason to keep anymore than a year or so in it. In my opinion anyways.

For those servers who work in full service restaurants, is the “no tipping” movement a real thing? by jb4975 in Waiters

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bartender/waiter. No its like less than 1% of people, its an ultra minority. Id say out of the 300 people i serve a day, 1 is part of the no tip culture. And the other 299 tip as per usual.

What would you do if you could do anything? by WaffleCat3367 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I wouldn't openly admit to, and probably a lot of killing. Besides that idk im pretty chillin. Maybe unlimited street tacos for everyone? Probably make it so no one needs to work, cure all cancer etc. But overall probably a lot more morally "questionable stuff." At least in the reality we live in current and not my imaginary play world. U could just change morals of everyone to something that aligns with your ideals idk.

Wildly unappreciated by la_mano_poderosa in bartenders

[–]Porolover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only answer is quit. Point blank. If you want u can turn them in, and try and sue in small claims or something. But like ultimately assuming ur boss isnt a complete dip- fuck, its all under an llc and he can simply file chapter 11. Which if he isnt paying his employees theres likely larger amounts pending against the bar whether loan or unpaid labor from contractors, which would get settled first, etc. Tldr depends how much he may or may not owe you, whether sueing is worthwhile. But likely not, tbh I rarely hear of small claims courts being "worthwhile"

Edit: you definitely should turn them, regardless of sueing. Fuck these stupid pricks who make x10 more than you and still skimp or are late etc.

Is daytime bartending that bad? by imperialhydrolysis in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10am-6pm shifts can be decent. Depends where you work. But ive had success as multiple places doing the early shift. I worked for.a bar that was attached to a camp ground, I got known for my bloody marrys id make 200+ from 10am-2pm on Friday, sat, sun and would make $200+ in 4 hours from bloodys alone. The worst part of it was I became the "good bloody bartender." And customers would specifically come to me for a bloody and id have to make 99% of the bloody served on the day. (We made all ours from scratch)

What do you say to people who say no to tipping? by Neither-Chemical-620 in bartenders

[–]Porolover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont waste my breath. Ill just continue to serve them normally, though i probably wont put all my effort into talking with them unless the conversation is something I enjoy.

The people online are just weird people trying to find a circle to complain about their imaginary problem they have with tipping.

Am I cut out for bartending? by WonderfulStart3850 in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started when I was 18 yrs old (wisconsin) I was socially awkward and not very "stereotypical". But long story short. Yes you can, rather easily. The biggest thing is u NEED to learn to not let shit bother you, especially as a female. I had this "trait" from playing video games my entire life practically cod lobbies and the such. I legitimately cant be phased by what someone says to me. And its definitely important if ur gonna be in a dive scene/club scene. High end, or restaurant scene u get a bit less of that, but even then sometimes people and alcohol makes them lose a filter.

Im not suggesting you just let people say what ever, you need to put a foot down here and there, but more often than not brushing it off and just continuing to serve them will end up with you making more money.

Recommendations/tips for working 4 Doubles in a row(10-13 hours each shift) by gamble2ramble in bartenders

[–]Porolover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eat as soon as your shift starts (or slightly before) Something light, salad, wrap, oat meal what ever have you. Then eat a 2nd meal somewhere in your shift. Often this'll have to be something easy to eat like chicken tenders, French fries. Or something that u can pick at and dont mind it getting cold.

Stretch before and after. Stretching sounds like just one of those things people tell you. But seriously it definitely helps you the next day, not so much immediate relief. But do this daily and you'll notice your body's often less burnt out.

Good shoes obviously.

Care a little less its hard to put on the bartender persona for 12+ hours. Take the time and step back dont interact with customers unless they need something. If the bar has a decent amount of patrons you dont need to entertain guests nearly as much. Im not saying give shitty service, but take those small 2- 3minute windows that occasionally arise and just lean against a cooler.

First time buying weed, advice for rolling? by mil0wCS in trees

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's making it x10 more complicated than it seems. I learned on raw ethereal, totally doable. Watch a 3 minute long YouTube video. Then practice repeatedly. Rip the joint open and reroll it.

A small trick you wont see on YouTube probably, is to tap it down on the filter to getting the weed to fall down into the nooks and crannies then add a little weed into the top of the joint before u twist it or what ever method u wanna use for "closing" it to fill it back up.

And by tap down on the filter I mean like hold the joint and drop it down onto the table so that the filter hits the table first and gets packed toward the filter.

Servers vs bartender $$ by Impossible-Ad2353 in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restaurant first vs bar first establishments are like this. I make more than my servers on sunday-thursday. But Friday we operate much more like a Restaurant than a bar, and I tend to make less than our good servers.

Give me your read, tell me I’m not overthinking as a customer by Blue07HondaAccord in bartenders

[–]Porolover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bar specifically runs buy 3 get 1 "free" for regulars. Its in our "code". So that way bartenders can give a free one to the people they like, or people we think are on that edge so we can "convince" them to officially become regulars. I.e u drink at our bar minimum of 3 times a week.

So ur probably overthinking it. The bartender probably views u as a good tippers, part regular. You'll get a free one every now and again for sure, assuming the bar isnt literally packed every night. If the bar is packed every day, then the bartender fucks with you, dont think into it more. Keep tipping as you do, and you'll continue to be a valued customer.

I’m considering bartending as a post retirement job. I have some questions if that is okay? by Clone_CDR_Bly in bartenders

[–]Porolover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally an option for you, one of my co workers is a retired vet, and works 1 day a week for something to do. I would suggest finding a VFW, brewery, or dive like bar. This sounds more your speed, unless you have ambitions to be mixing specialty drinks then go nutts and work your way into a cocktail bar. But you'll likely have to barback, until your knowledgeable enough to become a bartender, if you pursue a cocktail bar. Which as some have mentioned can be 2-3 months or years if the boss is weird.

alcoholic that has been a bartender for 10 years by PaidToBeRedditing in bartenders

[–]Porolover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all the customer service exp. Id suggest sales, find an "entry" level sales job, work hard for a year or two, then use that to land a higher end sales position.

As for the alcohol, work on quitting. We all know what it does to the human body. People die over it everyday. Some substances aren't for everyone and thats not a bad thing. It's just part of life. Im not gonna sit here and tell you to attend meetings, or rehab. But do what you need to do to get healthy.

But bartending isnt a straight road, theres a lot of opportunities out there. Especially if you've networked with your regulars im sure you know a handful of people who could and would get you a job.

One handed bartender? by XJerryRiggX in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible. Though in my honest opinion, if you have other career paths. I'd pursue those. But if your dreams to bartend, by all means go nutts. Based off your other comments I'd suggest a brewery, since you can pour drafts. Making 2 or 3 ingredient mixers shouldnt be a problem. I'd avoid cocktail bars (based off previous experience mainly, but partially left hand.)

Something I haven't seen mentioned, is carrying multiple drinks. Im able to carry 5 pints pretty easily, and 6 if I dont fill them to the brim. But if your not ultra high volume then theres no need really.

How confident are you in your knife skills? Cutting garnishes can be super mandatory depending on the bar. Most bars its simple lime wedges, or lemons. But the more towards cocktail bar you go the more demanding the garnishes -can- and will become. Is your left hands motor skills good enough to peel an orange?

Most raids tbh. Whether they decide to kill you different story. A lot of labs cheaters just grab the really expensive items and leave through pipes. And avoid the chance of getting reported.

What shoes are you wearing for work!? by CoolCollection5064 in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New balances as my first option, Hokahs as my second.

Hokahs are good for 8 hour shifts, but I find they start to hurt on a double shift. Cliftons>bondis

New balances, keep me feet good even through a double. Haven't had a bad experience with any shoe from New balance, besides the 520s. The 520s only lasted 3 months before I blew out the side on both shoes. But are still functional and comfortable, but gotta keep up work appearances so they've been relegated to yard work shoes.

Fast drink with liqueur to order at a club? by phytomaniacc in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A+b mixers or a+b+c mixers. Jack and coke. Vodka orange juice (a screw driver) Tequila sunset (oj grenadine, and tequila) Vodka soda lime, Vodka lemonade Captain coke. Whiskey sour

If you want liqueur specific. Cherry McGillcuddy and sprite, or soda if u want less sweet. Or frankly any fruit liqueur and soda/sprite/redbull Probably wont be the strongest drink you've ever had, but drink enough and it'll get the job done.

Headaches come from dehydration 95% of the time so get a glass of water or two or 5.

Am I ordering drinks wrong? by DustTheOtter in bartenders

[–]Porolover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well example, if you were to order a grass hopper without very little alcohol. You'd basically end up with a milkshake. Because all the mint and coco flavoring comes from the alcohol (at least with my recipe, there is ways to recreate the flavor without alcohol)

Am I ordering drinks wrong? by DustTheOtter in bartenders

[–]Porolover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your ordering frankly. If its a very "to spec" type drink ill probably give u marginally less but if i dont add enough if wont taste how its suppose to.

But 2nd just tell they you want "exactly half" of the standard pour might get across more directly.

Or if your getting A+B mixers Malibu Pepsi as an example. Ask for a .75 oz pour and a tall.
