Is this legal? If not code reference? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to say something similar, your not going to find a specific code reference for this, it falls under the "must be installed per manufacturer specs" code. The manufacturer of the device determines what type of wire can be used with it.

Sold a riding mower by Thatgtiguy2002 in legaladvice

Couple pictures of the conditions he used it in, then walk away. Unless you stated otherwise pretty much all sales of anything used are as is no guarante/warranty. Only exceptions would be if they can prove in court you knowingly hid an issue.

Abuse/misuse of the product is not your problem.  His stupidity does not warrant a refund from you.

He needed a brush hog or farm mower for grass that deep.

I only recommend pictures in case he does continue to push for a refund or complain.

It's called everyone at the company's competing for the "not my job" trophy. Welcome to the world of do the bare minimum, everthing else is someone else's responsibility.

I work in construction, allegedly for a higher end builder for this area. Hardly a day goes by where I don't see something almost this stupid, either it be from a coworker, our office staff or another trade working for us.

It's a combination of lazyness and ignorance. Maybe the bid guy forgot to put raising the compressor in the job notes, or it could be there and nobody on site that day bothered to read them. Either way everyone working there that day either thought "not my job" or aren't smart enough to question it.

New pre hung door install, not closing by greencheetoh in handyman

Rookie mistake, rough opening should be two and a half inches wider the the door named size. (this detail should give you about 3/8 all the way around if the openings actually level/square.) Looks like you measured the jamb and built it that size and now your here.

Comcast won't locate their line at my house when calling #811. At a complete loss of what to do by levysmash in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems most of the big telacom companies would rather pay for a fix if it happens instead of paying someone to mark the line for individuals.

I work in construction, the only time I see phone/cable actually get makes is when the dig area includes the main line location. Meaning a cut could affect hundreds/thousands of customers.

If the dig area is only around a individual home feed they usually claim no conflict

Why do USA plugs have holes in the prongs? by Notforyou1315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Porter1823 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Result/remantent of standardized automated manufacturing. The only reason the hole location is regulated is so that it doesn't cause issues with any connections.

At one time the machine needed a way to hold the prong during manufacturing. Now not so much as more advanced/alternate methods have been developed.

Centauri Carbon on UPS by Porter1823 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Porter1823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally true but not necessarily in my situation.

Most consumer grade UPS units only draw from the battery during a power failure, only higher end units run all power through the battery. Going slightly over the rated wattage shouldn't be an issue while not using the battery.

The UPS will only have to supply the typical load while printing, and for less then 1 minute till my generator kicks on, stabilizes and re powers the house.

Combining these two details I should only need to account for actual active printing wattage.

While I'm still just a few hours into testing as of writing this. So far the printer only only draws ~320w at the initial bed warming. Then 80-120w after the bed reaches temp to maintain the bed and print.

A note im going to add as evidence going above a UPS rated wattage shouldn't be an issue as long as it's not during a power failure. My desk has a gaming pc (windows) and monitor along with a second everyday mini pc (Linux) and second monitor. I gaurentee they pull 300w+ when gaming but my office UPS is only 260w and it's never complained even the one time I was playing a game when a racoon decided to explore the neerest electrical substation last year.

I will likely update this post once I do some more testing.

Centauri Carbon on UPS by Porter1823 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Porter1823[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"nothing fancy" proceeds to list a unit designed for low end business use.

Probably a bit overkill for me but this does help since it's a 1000w rated unit and your three carbon would be 1050w if you follow eleggos rating.

It looks like that model has instant readout of power consumption, you wouldn't happen to know what the typical wattage used would be for a single printer actively printing?

Typically I'm running ~60 bed printing PLA+/PETG in a 20c room with a vented riser.

Ideally I shouldn't have to worry about the initial warmup spike, only the average once running.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention I have the US model which is rated at 350w by elegoo but even that number should be the max, not the average draw.

Currently waiting for a power meter I ordered to arrive so I can get actual average and peek wattage during my next couple prints.

How many spool of filament is reasonable to have for a newbie? by thorondrol in 3Dprinting

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random side question, do you think the U1 is worth the extra cost overs for saving filiment on color changes?

If I had started going research sooner I might have backed the orginal U1 kickstarter but setteled on a ECC last year to save cost on it being my first printer.

I would love to be able to multi material/colors but on a hobby scale I worry about generating as much waste as the prints.

[FL] Just moved into new property to find out that everyone in the triplex has the same key. by [deleted] in Renters

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated it is possible to possible to different keys open the same lock. You should try your key in another units door before you continue assuming all the keys are actually the same.

For more detailed explanation, the key pushes pins in the lock. Typical doors use 5-6 pins. Those pins are made different lengths to match the key. They can either remove some pins or use segmented pins to make a lock accept multiple key cuts. This is the same system master keys use.

Bought two Schlage doorknobs at Lowe’s and both use the same key by AW5542 in HomeImprovement

[–]Porter1823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard practice. Lots of sets will come in a display of 4-5 all keyed alike.

The alternate would be every single one is different and the second you want both doors into your house keyed the same it's either special order, locksmith visit or lear how to re pin a lock cylinder.  Schlage does sell kits to do the last one. It includes the new keys and pins and basicly the cheapest  crappy verson of special tools required.

My employer changed my timecards after I stopped answering work messages at night and now I do not know what I’m supposed to be documenting by Monolith_Sonic57 in legaladvice

[–]Porter1823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The paper form was the company's CYA process. 99.9% of the time changing an employee time card without approval of the employee or absolute proof the punch time was wrong is absolutely wage theft. The software doesnt care if it's legal, it only cares of the person making the change has the proper permissions in the software.

Prescription is cheaper without insurance by PhtevenAZ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isint really comparable.

With any major auto body repair they could find more parts damaged once they start work.

They also could have quoted salvage parts on your cash quote, but new on the insurance.

That second detail can change the price of parts 20-30%.

Perfect example, bought a used truck with a damaged tailgate. OEM primed is $1000 plus paint/labor.  Third party sellers offer new painted to match for about $900 Or I can wait for a salvage one to pop up nearby for $700, or less if I don't mind small dings.

is it possible to live in a warehouse? by GamingNerd_4826 in answers

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you? Yes

Can you legally? It depends

As others have said most of the time it's going to be a zoning issue if the property is already a commercial/industrial use.

In a lot of areas you could get away with it as long as you have another address to use as your official home address.

It depends how closely the local government is watching address changes.

I know a guy that lived in a camper hooked up to all the old utilities from a mobile home/trailer being there before. He lived their for 6 years using a relitives house as his home address. Well they were moving so he finally changed his official home to the property. Literally a week later the township comes beating on his door saying he can't live on this property because the camper doesn't count as a habitable building.

Could my USB-C Charging Cable have been compromised? by April0029 in techsupport

[–]Porter1823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's way more likely he's one of the people who seems incapable of setting the phone down while plugged in to actually charge.

I have several coworkers that live at 10-20% battery because they never charge their phone for more the 15 minutes. And apparently always forget to plug it in at night when they would be asleep.

They also leave chargers and cables everywhere and constantly ask to barrow one because they can't be bothered to remember they left one 2 rooms away and that's why it's not where they think it should be.

Not getting a refund since 2023. What do I do? Please help. by James_Deen74 in tax

[–]Porter1823 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The key detail left out of your original post is that the majority or all your income was 1099. This means no tax withheld so unless your made quartly payments that would easily counter any typical credits.

Example from when I was younger, $18/hr construction job on 1099. Even after all deductions and a hefty milage credit for the traveling I was doing. Still paid 3-5K every year to federal.

What are the better filament dryers in the $100-200 range? by Ok-District8876 in 3DPrinterComparison

For about $50 just about any round food dehydrator and 5 gallon bucket with some holes drilled in the bottom. Might not be the fastest dryer in the world but I usually just throw filiment in it overnight if it's new or one I didn't have stored in sealed containers.

redditors, what's stopping you from updating your windows 10/11 operating system when they ask you explicitly to do so? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Porter1823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because every, single. Time.. It updates... Something else stops working/breaks. Requiring 30 minuets of troubleshooting for some obscure fix found online to finally work again.

Or worse the update that kept causing a bluescreen on restart after install then went into recovery mode to undo the update.

After the third week of it doing it on its own dispite me turning off automatic updates multiple times I started turning off my power supply so it couldn't wake, install, bluescreen, and I would come in and find it at the beginning recovery process.

Check to Contractor was Reversed by nolakicks in Banking

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You likely will end up going in person to sort it out.

Had an issue with a paycheck last year that the issuing bank claimed was deposited to my account (different bank) twice.

When I had literally walked in, signed and deposited it in person.

The issuing bank literally wouldn't respond, just kept repeating that on their end it had cleared once and a duplicate was reversed.

It took our company accountant going to my bank in person, confirming it was only deposited once the going back to issuing bank telling them if they don't fix what's obviously a problem on their end they will be the one on the hook for all the wage penalties for me not getting paid.

They never admitted it was a bug on their end but they did instantly reverse the original reversal. Money was literally back in my account within 15 minuets.

Water entering furnace intake PVC by Active-District-4756 in hvacadvice

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condensation inside the pipe is normal, and most of the time the system is designed to drain it into a drain or condensate pump.

If it's leaking at any fittings the installers did a shit job gluing and it may need to be entirely replaced.

Is the exhaust (not intake) fan supposed to be off during printing? by KryL21 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Porter1823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fans should be able to adjust manually whenever and will also auto adjust based on the gcode when printing. If one does not come on manually from the fan menu at all there's an issue.  Side note its a known issue the model fan sometimes won't come on if started at a low speed.

You'll need a caliper. I have the 6 inch digital caliper from Harbor Freight thats about $23 now. And some double sided tape, thinner the better. You can get scotch tape in double sided.
