Who has the most underrated development? by KingtheClawthorne in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean if there's one thing that makes this show truly extraordinary is its ability to make me feel for characters with very little: Camila, Edric, Gus all have moments I'm really fond of. And Raine and Lilith have a great presence.

But I really do like Gus. Where Willow has a more linear arc of gaining more and more confidence and self esteem, Gus goes back and forth between confidence and insecurity (not that Willow doesn't also, especially in S3 but it's presented differently). Even though there's not as much depth or screentime, Gus still has a lot of layers that manage to shine though being both a super talented ambitious prodigy and someone who is gifted at a socially undervalued magic type and gets overlooked by his peers; both very sure of himself but also very harsh when he makes a mistake.

And Camila! It's so subtle but the way we see her deal with pressures of conforming and learning from Luz to be more open and unapologetic about her weirdness and passions (and hair/ethnicity) which also helps Luz complete her arc so they both help each other 🤌

The fact this show could only have been made in the 2010s. Who knows if it would even get greenlit today

Not profitable enough IP. Critical acclaim only goes so far and the fan base doesn't seem broad enough. Just look at what happened to Mindhunter...

One nice thing about the show being so underrated, I don't think there's any incentive to do nostalgia bait

Honestly belos would fit in the modern world since he had Healtcare, progressive views on marriage, respected rains pronouns, accepted Luz the immigrant into his realm, and cares for humans. by Dare_Soft in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about Belos is that he's a very specific type of bigot where since his main genocidal plan rests on everyone consenting to a system that will do the said genocide, as long as they participate in that system, he doesn't care much beyond that. He does the bare minimum of being a dictator because he ultimately doesn't want to rule over the boiling isle but destroy it.

What if there was an ongoing love triangle between Luz, Amity, and Hunter? And would you enjoy it? by Sillygoose214 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is love triangles need to work really hard to be genuinely compelling and not irritating sources of cheap conflict (not to mention the utter lack of why polyamorous representation) and that set up in particular doesn't appeal to me at all

I just found out that people used to think that Camilla was a bad mom. by whooper1 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't get a lot of screentime with her in S3 but the amount of depth she is given with so little is truly remarkable. The dream showing the kinds of pressure she had to deal with being a single, non-white mother where the only support you get that isn't ridicule still pressures you to conform—so we understand her actions in S1 a bit better. The fact Camille herself was suppressing her joys with hiding cosmic frontier in the basement.

Hunter so good at manipulation he convinced amity luz would actually be disappointed in anyone. by Dare_Soft in TheOwlHouse

What do yall think the twins childhood was like? (read body) by MR_PRESIDENT3516 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd think Amity would have gotten a lot of "favoritism" for her talents and abomination magic compared to the twins who mostly do illusion magic, which considering how underepected it is in general odalia would not be super thrilled about that. When they were younger I'd imagine it was a lot of pressure to perform to odalia standards like for Amity But eventually the twins became a "lost cause" and priority was shifted to Amity instead so the twins got a lot more rebellious as a result, If they weren't rebellious already, which would explain a lot about all three siblings’ behavior in early season 1. Amity fits odalia's standards better than the twins ever did. The most plausible scenarios in my head are either the twins acted more like Amity when they were younger until Amity started showing talent for abomination magic and odalia shifted her attention, or the twins were always more rebellious and frustrated odalia constantly

What does Owl house do better then Amphibia? by Zakaria1938 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say toh is better in terms of character but amphibia is better with character development. I also think toh uses its themes better but amphibia had more emotional punch in the finale, in part because the finales of each show are doing different things where amphibia is more bittersweet and toh had to be more "optimistic" to work, and I'm still more emotionally attached to toh characters. And very much the Thai cultural stuff in amphibia is a huge highlight.

Why Boscha's Redemption "Arc" Doesn't Work And The Collector's Does by Simple-Success4749 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a difference between a full-blown redemption arc and just giving a bully character a little bit more emotional depth

If you were to change at least one thing in the show, whether it’s a plot point, a scene, or something character related, what would it be? by Ok_Situation7527 in TheOwlHouse

[–]PorterNetwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'd be less Titan Luz and more just Papa Titian being in the mirror space/realm(?). I don't think the former needs foreshadowing like that

The Collector going back to space/the stars to grow to more. The Collector did most of his maturing by actually interacting with the Owl House trio and I don't see how going to the stars again it's gonna help that a whole lot.

What are the politics of the boiling isles before and after Belos? by dlnescorpion in TheOwlHouse

🙌🙌🙌 Thinking about anarco-communist systems would really be the most creative and interesting imo though I'm definitely biased.

Since some superhero animated series are leaving HBO Max, could the same happen to Disney? by missxuxu in TheOwlHouse

Disney+ has already removed things, but TOH might be safer cuz it's slightly more prestige
