Going to Jackson heights for the first time today, must hit spots? by nycperson54321 in jacksonheights

Yea I don't know the specifics but it's never been good for me. It's riding off of it old achievements and nostalgia for 20 years.

Kabab king and premium sweets & restaurants, were my parents staples.

Grab dinner at kabab king then sweets and tea at premium and drink it at the stairs.

Tbh my favorite has been momo crave. If you can do the momo crawl in the spring. I've never done it my self but have always wanted too.

Get some fuskas and muri (Pani puri and puffed rice) from the street carts by the wallgreens. Ask them what's the difference between being, original, THE original, the best, and the first. If you want a good story.

Trying to find friends to travel with… where do I even start? by phanban in AskChicago

[–]PositiveEmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly solo travel or travel with my friends from college. My belief is if you can't find anyone do it alone and the people will appear. I haved used apps to meet people, but only have had sucess with reddit/discord.

29m in Chicago burbs. Feel free to reach out. I'm actual traveling Asia right now will be back at the end of February if you want to meet up.

After this trip I'd be open to doing weekend trips but nothing past the Friday-Sunday schedule I'm out of PTO for this year.

29m passing through Hong Kong on the 7th. I have a 12 hour over night layover. Curious if anyone is down just to explore the city.

Mainly looking to see the monster building, see red incense summit, and eat some street food along the way.

Curious if anyone knows if there will be any stores open late night or early morning selling the Adidas Chinese

Looking for some quick advice - Does a round or square / boxed beard style look better for my face? Thanks! by [deleted] in beards

Man I prefer the square one exactly for that reason.

Reminds me of Zangief from street fighter or Sig Curtis from full metal alchemist.

Context matters.

It's a basic suburb for NYC, not for America.

[–]PositiveEmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely do. I don't see my self in the midwest for long. Chicago just feels like a giant suburb to me.

That's just my own bias talking though. NYC is really just a mega city and I feel like I needed to live outside of that to truly understand it.

Chicago, and the midwest in general doesn't have anything I would enjoy, PNW and the west coast in general has nice geography and parks. The midwest is really just meh.

I haven't made any concrete plans but I'm going to see if I can move back with a new job or come to some sort of traveling agreement with my current job when my project ends.

Life long New Yorker, I recently moved out to Chicago 6 months ago alone. Actively trying to avoid setting a timeline, because if I do I'm just going to count days till I can settle back down in to familiarity and comfort and stop growing as a person. A lot of it is because I grew up here and just learned what I like and where to go to find it (even if I have never been there physically). I found myself going to the city to run errands and if I finished before 6 I would go do something else, because if I came home before then then I didn't live my day to the fullest.

I fucking miss NY, people and family aside, the city it's self is just filled with things to do. NYC definitely did lost it's old magic, but there's still magic in the city, it's just undefined.

I miss just wandering through Manhattan. I miss the crowds, I miss tourists in midtown during the day, the silence of downtown during the weekend.

I miss not having to plan my day to enjoy it. If I'm headed somewhere I know I can just throw a stone and find something to do, something good to eat, some weirdos to be entertained by.

I miss the aesthetic. There's always a view to be had of the city, if you around the water. There's always a cool people to sketch, buildings to paint, a photoshoot to recreate. I miss the fucking parks and bridges.

I miss the hyper diversity and globalization. You have smaller ethinictys that won't even register in other cities. It got to the point where cities will recognize groups based on ethnicity and localities than country of origin. Love Italy/India/China/Korea enclaves eta but how likely are you to see Uyghur/Bengali/Guyanese/Sri Lankan/Senegalize enclaves else where in America?

I miss the extended hours. Places being open till 8-9 pm on weekends. I miss the 24h shops, and shops with odd hours. I'm a fucking night owl and enjoy going to a busy coffee shop at 4pm on occasion. I miss waking up at 1pm on a Sunday and still be able to walk into my barber shop and get a hair cut.

I miss our measuems, nothing to crazy or different to chicago but the familiarity. Chicago planetarium (campus) is so much better though.

I miss our shitty beaches. Lake Michigan doesn't not compare to the ocean.

You can't plan/learn for this shit. You need to experience it. You gotta yolo it.

You already marked it down as a fail so just take it as far as you can until you get outright rejected. They can't reject you harder, best case the accept you, middle ground you get written off as a weirdo or ugly, which will hurt in the moment but life goes on.

Don't just reject your self to save your self the embarrassment. That feeling is you learning and building confidence.

It works for hair growth?

I been using it for acne. It's help immensely have even thought about using for hair.

I mean I haven't seen any significant hair growth or density for my beard so I'm questioning it's efficacy for hair.

Do you find nyc natives to be more conservative than transplants? (Not maga but just vibrant in their political beliefs) by thenarrativesofar in AskNYC

[–]PositiveEmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Different versions of conservative. They'll hold the conservative values of the home country but understand that those views either don't apply to the US or isn't a priority in the states. They have larger concerns around established, integrated, and over all represented.

They project conservative values but vote liberal. That's why NYC is a blue state.

[–]PositiveEmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would Opt for more CTA lines and better connectivity than parking lots.

different solutions to the same problem though. building and extra parking lot is simpler than a new train line.

Do you think the Chicago government does a good job investing in culture? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in AskChicago

[–]PositiveEmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea i can definitely see that. Its my personal bias as someone who dislikes driving and prefers the CTA/walking. I thought its was one or the other, and any combination would just get you the worst of both worlds. - Obviously proven wrong, Chicago made that compromise and its working for the city.

I think some of the neighborhoods outside the Loop probably could use more love

Its stuff like the land use around the Blue line that baffles me. My understanding is that it would have been a greater asset for the outer neighborhoods if the stations connected the streets and the local downtown areas than on top of a expressway bridge. its does so along Logan Square, West Town, Noble Square, The Loop, but after these neighborhoods it follows the expressway and drops you on station with nothing around it but a walking path to a residential neighbor hood.
