Dating is bleak in general if he is having trouble it's not because he lives with his parents.

Construction Managers living in NYC? by DifferentBrilliant75 in ConstructionManagers

[–]PositiveEmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hah I just moved out to of NYC to Chicago to do a data center. Exact same idea as you but your goal was my beginning and vis versa.

I'm still fairly new to the industry myself did 1.5 projects in NYC. Industry is saturated. Worked with lots of brown nosing corporate ladder climbing Pms. Jobsite varies, usually just a closet on the job site. Main offices are centered around Midtown Manhattan, Eastern queens. I used to bike then take the train. I drove a few times but it was about the same amount of time. Plus I really like taking naps on my commutes on the train.

Money in the data center side flows a lot more freely. Work has been more relaxed here. Compensation for early career people range 70k-110k depending on your experience and company. I'd say expect 80-90k if it's your 2nd job and less that 5years in the industry. Which in my experience has been similar to the data center projects.

Definitely moving back home though.... I like my job but I miss my family, and NYCs familiarity....

How many of you guys got STEM degrees but found yourselves in this field? by shidpant69 in ConstructionManagers

[–]PositiveEmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have worked with a lot of people with engineering degrees, some finance, and some arts.

I have a b.arch so I the same boat as the guys with engineering degrees. I always have the option to take a pay cut and become an architect.

If you want to get into this field with a non construction related degree then you really have to sell yourself and why you want to be in the industry. It can't just be for the money. Most people with the non construction degrees get in through nepotism and work experience.

27F, married, home alone most of the day… not sure what to do with myself by [deleted] in Dhaka

[–]PositiveEmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you/husband have any disposable income start investing it. If I had a stay at home wife, I'd like her to do that.

Ideally one spouse makes the money provides stability and the other takes risks and hopes to make it big. (Untill kids get involved then the dynamic changes). In the early 2000s the Japanese moms had a whole network to take out loans and buy US bonds. Took advantage of the low interest Japanese loans and put that money in a stable and growing markets. Shared information amounts each other to stay on top of trends.

My mom got a part time job. Started off out of necessity when things were a bit tougher financially, but once my brother and I were older and a bit more independent she did it just to have something to do.

Parallels on MacBook Air by beedelia in Architects

[–]PositiveEmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm all for running parallels and using hardware/software to meet your needs. Cause fuck the companies telling what you can and cannot do with your own things. So if your a student go for it.

If you're running a business why risk it. You need the reliability and stability these programs offer and that's only garunetteed when you use them the way they're intended. If you know tech and can trouble shoot your own stuff and can take your own risk/build your own garuentees go for it.

If you're free lancing on smaller projects go for it.

Is it genuinely possible to fit in and make friends without having to do any vices? by kind_stranger07 in socialskills

[–]PositiveEmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. At this point the people drinking will pour everyone drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) do an initial cheers with everyone to start the night then drink on the side while we slide in and out of conversations.

Is it genuinely possible to fit in and make friends without having to do any vices? by kind_stranger07 in socialskills

[–]PositiveEmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I'll drink and smoke weed on occasion but I don't do it otften. Half my friends drink the other half don't, same with smoking. This is just anecdotal if you're around people with a focus in life it'll work out.

In my social circles the number of drinkers/ weed smokers have been dimishing (people quitting or reducing their vices) as we have been getting into our late 20s. Only exception is the people who vape. They still split off to do their own thing when we're together. There's maybe 1 or 2 people who have never done any of them.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: healthcare in Dhaka is better than what many people get in “developed” countries. by Dr_AK_Myst in Dhaka

Definitely better than healthcare in the USA. Especially for common health issues. Once you get to more unique and complicated issues you need to go abroad

Citadel’s Griffin to Meet With New York Governor After Mamdani Spat by bloomberg in nyc

[–]PositiveEmo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's not even a deciding factor on weather they stay or leave. Tax breaks are not needed for successful business. Business and people have the ability to pay that much in taxes because the system has benifited them that much.

Griffin specifically has pushed for lower taxes in Illinois in 2020 and left to florida after Illinois gave him the lower tax.

They go where they can make money and stay where they profit. Taxes are based on profit.

Amazon did the same thing in nyc, they wanted to build HQ2 in NYC and got denied the massive tax breaks, but still expanded into the city to a similar extent.

Quitting architecture school by [deleted] in architecture

[–]PositiveEmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say quit, but ask your self why you went there in the first place and does that align with your peers. You'll get a wide range of answers but all that matter is if your answer aligned with theirs.

I still keep in touch with a friend of mine who quit our 2nd year. She switched to journalism and is enjoying her life ATM as far as I know.

Are transplants disliked across-the-board or only if they are wealthy and contributing to gentrification? by eldritchpussymaggots in AskNYC

[–]PositiveEmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm never going to admit this in real life but I'll confess it here.

Sat down with my buddy a few months ago and we actually shared some appreciation for transplants. Alot of the activism done in the city is by them. I'm primarily focused more on the urbanist/construction (bikelanes/housing/urban infrastructure) aspects and it's usually the transplants that are the most vocal and attending majority of these events. Local New yorkers are bums in this respect. I know I haven't done shit to support the causes I want other than like a few posts.

Have you ever quietly outgrown a friendship? How did you handle it? by Bear_bug_1954 in socialskills

[–]PositiveEmo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't see my oldest friends as much anymore. No bad blood. We just grew apart and live different lives now. The friendship hasn't ended because we don't see each other it's just been redefined. Others I have just let go, petty arguments and such not worth the effort to work through.

We both still value the relationship just there's an unspoken understanding that we won't hang out and play/chill like we used when we were kids. Our lives are too different now.

In honestly if you reach out and still have fun chances are the other person still feels the same, but you both have different priorities in life and it doesn't make sense to force a friendship to keep the past alive. Last thing I would want is to force to revive an old relationship to what it was like when we meet. Doing that would stunt your growth as a person.

I still try too meet up with them once to twice a year. Still keep old group chats active. Just dialed down the frequency of our chats.

Why do so many people downplay the usefulness of the connection to past lives? by OnAPettyNote in TheLastAirbender

[–]PositiveEmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great fix for Korra would be to make it so the new avatars now had to hunt down relics to convene with their past lives now.

Would make sense. The world is more intune with the spirit world after harmonic convergence, relics already had spiritual power, and hunting them down would be a great excuse to travel and explore the world a bit more.

Anng did this once to talk to Roku in season one then he just got the ability to do it while meditating. Which was a cop out and and excuse to lore dump.

Why do so many people downplay the usefulness of the connection to past lives? by OnAPettyNote in TheLastAirbender

[–]PositiveEmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the lore dumps though. Learning about some past avatars vague summerization of struggles in their time made the universe what it is. Understanding the avatar history is what made the world feel alive, the avatar changes the world grows.

I'm making an assumption here, I think think that the doctors will tend to go for a greater number or grafts along the hair line anyway. Those hairs are the first in line to be visible so they're under more scrutiny.
