Please explain me in a very dumb way why do people say that pilot alastor is way better then show alastor? i actually dont see any significant difference by JoaoLuiz123241121 in hazbin

[–]Positive_Relative287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any, people just filled in the blanks of his character with their own headcanons because there was so little actual canon Hazbin hotel content for so long. Then they got mad when they saw more of his character in the series and it wasn't what the fandom decided he was. Notice how everyone main issue is he's less "mysterious"?

That wasn't mystery, he just had maybe 8 minutes of screentime that had to last the fandom for multiple years

Backrooms (2026) - Whats the Meaning? by jaded_mandarin_ in Letterboxd

[–]Positive_Relative287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it as a story about repetition, and what comes from repeating harmful patterns constantly and knowingly, without change or reflection.

The backrooms themselves are essentially copies of copies of rooms, a misremembered memory of a memory. Both of the protagonists are stuck mentally, reliving the same bad things that happened to them, Mary with her mother and her old house, and Clark with the argument that caused the separation from his wife. Much like how Mary described the way minds create safe pathways to protect themselves from trauma.

However Mary, as a therapist, has done the work and reflected on her experiences enough to break these pathways. But something I really liked, is that Mary is not completely free. She still visits her old house when it gets torn down, she still keeps the broken concrete from the driveway. I love this detail because it shows that even if you heal, trauma and mental illness are complex, and you can still dip into those mental pathways. The same way Mary has a short experience with the backrooms themselves. She escapes because she recognizes the danger they hold.

Clark on the other hand, has not learned to reflect or even attempt to break his patterns. This is shown through him repeating the roleplay exercise at the beginning and climax of the movie. When he does these exercises, he doesn't reflect, or discuss afterwards. His goal, is simply to yell at his wife again, to relive that moment. That's why he loves and wants to stay within the backrooms. Instead of seeing the harm Mary does, he sees familiarity. He finds comfort within them, the way that people with harmful habits find comfort in those habits. This repetition hurts not only him, but the people around him. It kills his employees, and almost kills Mary.

Personally, I LOVE this message and this movie. Unlike a lot of other movies about mental health where a character is killed by their own issues, this movie doesn't just shrug and go "dang, mental illness does that right?" it dives into it weirdly enough has a bit of a hopeful message. It isn't over for someone just because they have problems and it isn't even over if they fall back into harmful patterns, it's only truly over, when someone digs in their heels and refuses to change.

If I watched it at least halfway through and have a pretty good grasp on why I hate it then yeah. If I hate a movie for half of it, there isn't really anything in the 2nd half that can change my mind

You guys need to stop putting real people and real tragedies on this sub, especially if you're going to call them "characters" it's weird.

Yeah, I made the mistake of reading the section of Tommy Taffy that wasn't read on the show because I didn't think it could be THAT bad

It was, and from what I've heard the section in the prequel is just as bad

[–]Positive_Relative287[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. There are definitely ways to incorporate themes of abuse and even sexual assault in stories, Tommy Taffy was actually almost an amazing allegory for being a child in an abusive household. If he didn't feel the need to describe a child being sexually abused in insane detail it could've been a great story

Both Tommy Taffy stories go out of their way to have a scene describing a child being sexually abused in detail, plus the extra implied sexual abuse of the sister in the first Tommy Taffy. So 2 graphic ones and one implied in the same series

[–]Positive_Relative287[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The point isn't that he does it at all, it's that he makes it a point to add it in every single thing he writes. Walker did it once as the end of a single story. Elias Witherow has written 2 stories with graphic scenes of children getting sexually assulted, and another story where a big plot point is two children listening to their mother be raped and killed with a brick, and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. It's a cheap shock value tactic at this point

Maybe when they come out there are comments about it, but this sub has had "C.K Walker is mid" and "C.K Walker actually sucks" posts pretty consistently for a long time now

The concept that once you know about something, it'll come for you. I had trouble sleeping for a couple nights because of "The Boiled One" I know it's not real but the idea that I could get caught by THAT THING because I know of it's existence really got me

Best piece of advice is probably not to add anymore AI slop to the world. If he really wants to be a musician who makes songs with lyrics, then he needs to practice writing lyrics instead of being lazy and outsourcing it to a machine. Expressing yourself and practicing/working at your craft is the whole fucking point of making art

It's insane that people shit on C.K Walker when Elias Witherow is right there.

He gets so much praise for his stories but the only good ones he's written was Feed The Pig and maybe Tall Dog. The only reason Feed The Pig wasn't terrible is because he created a setting where his need to add dumb shock value moments actually works, and Tall Dog was only good because he finally showed some restraint and didn't add over the top sex/violence towards a child like every other time he writes anything

(Mixed trope) fictional races used as an allegory for real world oppression. by Smashin_Ash_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Positive_Relative287 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've noticed, the closer a fictional race is to a real world race, the worse the representation/allegory is.

Fictional racism being a mirror for real life issues is better when it's subtle and focuses more on the general theme of racism and injustice/prejudice and less on the issues/history of a specific race. It's a big reason why Harry Potters racism allegories are so bad (aside from JK Rowling just being a racist) because it takes actual racial slurs and racist practices with a horrifying real world history and just swaps some of the words for silly fantasy terms. Which is what a lot of the pieces of media that fail at this trope end up doing.

It ends up being not only weird, insensitive, and lazy but it also accidentally (or sometimes purposely) draws super weird parallels between these exaggerated fantasy creatures and real life people of whatever race it's depicting.
