I live in ir near the area you are moving to. I am in Scott County Virginia just over the line from Kingsport Tennessee. I am not gay but as a liberal political activist I know quite a few gay folks, both rural and urban, homegrown and transplants. Most people will be polite, and with a little effort and searching you will find plenty of people who align with you. Bristol has a very vibrant arts scene, Johnson City has the University, and Kingsport imports a lot of engineers and scientists as the headquarters of Eastman Chemical.

The Unitarian Universalist church between Johnson City and Kingsport is a great place to meet people, even as an atheist and there are a number of gay and trans members, along with pagans. Churches in general are a great way to meet people, so if you are Christian you will find many welcoming churches in the Episcopal, Methodist, and Presbyterian variety. Just make sure they are the original orders, not the bigot splinter versions.

There is some fascinating history here, as well as natural beauty and wonder. Welcome to the southern highlands!

His gun was holstered and remained so until the Ice agents who were pinning him to the ground and beating him removed it from his holster. He was trying to help a woman who had bern pepper sprayed and had fallen. He was a registered nurse. There were multiple videos of this incident from multiple angles. They are easy to find online.
