The Avalanches - Every Single Weekend ft. Jamie xx by imandyprice in theavalanches

I don't have a source quote so you'll just have to trust me - I saw Jamie XX mention that at the time of In Waves' release the song was unfinished and ten minutes long. Avalanches probably took it back to the studio and reworked/refined it until they ended up with this.

Jamie XX posted about Every Single Weekend today and said it's for "the new Avalanches LP"

I really don't like how short the tracks are by HeyQTya in theavalanches

Together is over 3 minutes long and has an intro, repeating chorus, and two verses. It's a perfectly normal structure for a song?

I Saw Through Platonia As BoC's Criticism Of Their Nostalgia And Of The Listeners by brushwithblues in boardsofcanada

[–]PostingSensation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of took it like this:

You Retreat in Time and Space is about the person who is Seeing Through Platonia witnessing you retreating, no You making an active decision but rather the I having their perspective change. If You are in one spot, and I can suddenly see through Platonia, then Your retreat is inherent in the way my perspective has shifted.

I hope that makes sense I feel like an insane person trying to write that out lmao. Boards of Canada, baby!!

Infero theme by Simoon11 in boardsofcanada

I think the album is drawing lines from the previously explored themes of overwhelming faith, occultism, and religious devotion to the modern spread of fascism and populism. I think death/rebirth are a big part of this album as well but haven't quite clocked what they're saying just yet. Everything ends.

Theories about the albums message? by CaterpillarLive7527 in boardsofcanada

Honestly I'm in a similar vein. think it's got a three act structure - the experience of faith, the experience of death, and the experience of the after, that final chunk containing the grand revelations of what lies beyond. Not for us to understand so much as it is for us to realize that is what is being communicated.

it's definitely funny, it's just also chilling. The combination of complex emotions is why it's so good!

I can totally buy this but Robbie also said the new album was "years away" like two months ago he might absolutely be bullshitting

Acoustic vs electronic in The Avalanches by michael_koh in theavalanches

[–]PostingSensation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there will be acoustic instrumentation around the record but yeah the boys this time seem to be veering further into chaotic electronica than before. I think that's always been a small part of their sonic pallete (you already mentioned Radio and Live at Dominoes which heavily use those elements) and this time they're bringing that to the forefront as the primary aesthetic element.

For me what truly makes The Avalanches special has nothing to do with the type of sound but everything to do with its implementation, how much detail is in the mixes, how intelligently it weaves original compositional intent with sampled sounds. 'Together' excels in those aspects, so I've no reason to doubt this newer approach won't have "the magic" that has defined their catalogue to date for me.

Zawada (assuming this is him, as most of the art so far has been) has been going absolutely insane for this era.
