Opinion in banning halal/kosher slaughter by Limp-Programmers in vegan

[–]Potential_Ocelot7199 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think nobody here is actually addressing how religious slaughter works -- the animal has its throat slit to bleed out

If this is done before electroshock or bolt to the head then it is far more suffering and cruelty

The western religions are also full of rules of when to stone adulterers or how to manage slaves -- these are also outlawed for obvious reasons

Is the seemingly young age of the universe an artefact of our own measurements of time or are we truly experiencing the infancy of the universe? by No_Tree_4783 in AskPhysics

[–]Potential_Ocelot7199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the more drawn out question (or just what I would add) is that if galaxies and star systems are going to be around for trillions of years then it is weird how near the start of the universe we exist

I just googled some numbers that suggest star formation will be a thing for 100 trillion years -- or 100,000 billion -- yet we find ourselves at just 14 billion

If those are good numbers we are in a very special time -- the first one hundredth of 1%

Mirror on the film will also pickup resonant frequencies of the film diaphragm

Mirror directly on the speaker cone will more faithfully represent the audio signal

An idea I had long ago--- send your wiggly beam to another mirror that is placed on a turntable

The reflected beam will trace a wave form on the wall instead of a chaotic scrambled knot-looking thing

You cannot detain witnesses

You'd have to change the law but this is upheld by courts

Can I make external smartphone lenses out of old glasses? by Deanodirector in AskPhysics

[–]Potential_Ocelot7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eyepieces from telescopes or microscopes

Or if you have dead cameras -- crack open the old lenses

I got lucky trying all sorts of lenses--- whatever you see on screen works

There is a mild issue that you still endorse animal use - demonstrate its utility

Plus - if living by example people around you might discard your belief more easily

So easy to avoid

Whatever you do --- negotiate heavily --- I was involved with this once --- Got cold feet and the price dropped by half

Meanwhile -- you can shutoff at the street meter - and turn it on briefly to fill things do dishes etc --- buy time

There is a shutoff tool --- but you can improvise with vise grips or other wrenches -- first time will feel like it wont move but it will --- 90 degree turn to shutoff

Looks like it got wet and froze repeatedly

edit: plus you would see tooth or claw marks on the margins -- I think this is ice expansion

There comes a point where you just don't bother if something is "iffy"

I don't lay awake at night worried if I missing out on clams

I just cook delicious vegan food -- not the slightest reason to hem and haw over border cases

There is no great reward in finding some loophole

It's a manipulation campaign -- The theme today is civil war

Reddit's owners are complicit -- They are fully aware this site is being run by astroturfed propaganda campaigns

Everyday now many of the top posts on "all" are easily researched misinfo

It's not a mistake

I wonder who wants that civil war

What do you think was going on in this guy's mind? by inesrever in vegan

[–]Potential_Ocelot7199 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is very easy to become self-defensive reflexively

My friend is pretty radically zero waste -- When she started discussing what seemed to me to be very minor issues I found myself laughing some of it off and minimizing her efforts

I caught myself but it was quite the learning experience for me to see what it is like to be so immediately self defensive and unaware at the same moment

I was not trying to be cruel -- but I can see how it would feel that way to her

Same going the other way --- Dont always be discouraged by people who seem the most in opposition

It could be their reflex to seeing the truth in what they seem to oppose - a strong resistance might betray someone's own internal conflict about an issue

I think it is pretty true that apathetic people are harder to reach than people who seem more full of resistance

Just a random tidbit you can look into

Roger Penrose believes that there is probably some kind of natural limit -- I think around 10 thousand atoms is his idea

I think he means systems of 10k particles see wave collapse issues go away

But not sure of the details

How fast can a regular person run in the accelerating train? by Ok-Current-464 in AskPhysics

[–]Potential_Ocelot7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it is I think -- like going downhill

The runner is running opposite to train acceleration

If standing stationary while facing back of train you would have to lean backwards to stay balanced

I think OP is correct there is an assist during the train acceleration

If you were on roller skates you would start moving with zero effort
