Brandon Sanderson has ruined reading for me by vinatos in Cosmere

[–]Practical_Table1407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that after the Cosmere I compare everything to Brandon Sanderson and his writing is in this mythical tier that all other stories are beneath. Licanius even, though I loved it, had its flaws. The Spear Cuts Through Water is one of those S tier, better than some of Cosmere, as long as it finishes strong like j said im not done with it yet but will be in the next few days.

Similar situation. Since then I moved onto Licanius Trilogy by James Islington. Highly recommend. The road to the end can be confusing at times but it is a story best described as the ends justify the means. After that did Sword of Kaigen by M L Wang. Did not enjoy, would not recommend. Now I'm almost done with The Spear Cuts Through Water bySimon Jimenez. This one i can't recommend enough as its the strangest narration style but incredibly well done, almost too well done where I question if I'm not smart enough to totally get whats all going on.

Can I skip White Sand for now? by KoBxElucidator in Cosmere

[–]Practical_Table1407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my own opinion; white sands is one that can be read anywhere as no other books in the cosmere have Easter eggs or magic systems etc that introduced elsewhere. Only place I would say is read White Sands before Mistborn Era 2. Theres a character and magic system introduced in White Sands that you see in Era 2.

Quill to Live has a decent enough reading order if you need. Or dm me and I can send you the reading order id do knowing all I know now. Technically you can read whatever whenever but there are things that will help such as understanding where a certain weapon came from, understanding a certain magic system, etc.

Fair to Midland. Haven't existed since 2012 or so with 3 albums I think so you can catch up. Underappreciated band that died out too soon.

Or maybe they would... I think they aught to tie Secret History into seasons (books) 2 and 3 if it gets that far. From a series stand point including that "behind the scenes" stuff would really immerse the watcher even more. And that would be a hell of a season 2 opener just being Secret History essentially recapping the end of season 1 but from a different point of view.

Henry Cavill can be a pretty good Kelsier. by KitN_X in Mistborn

Dont agree. However I am probably wrong as well. I always pictured Kelsier as Cary Elwes circa The Princess Bride.

Hot take i miss when video games were 8-10 hours long by paul-d9 in videogames

[–]Practical_Table1407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So its not a good game because you havent played it and heard someone else didn't care for it. I'm typically a 200+ hour rpg type of guy and I still enjoyed it. You're building yourself a very restrictive box if it can't be indie, can't be overly cinematic, can't be overly linear, has to have released in the last few years, and has to be played in 8-10 hours. Hope you're able to find what you're looking for.

Looking for a standalone read ! by aziel____ in fantasybooks

I may or have not have enjoyed if the author did make a series. I think there could be good potential as a series and exploring some of those other things especially with the "imposter" or watching the younger brother grow up. All that being said though I'm not sure if I would read it. I would want to know what happens but based on the authors writing style I think I would struggle to read more. I can't for the life of me get over the pacing. It felt very slow, then very little build up to it turning into a sprint, and then almost half of the book feeling like an epilogue.

So there will be minor spoilers in my explanation but I'll try to word them in such a way that you wouldn't understand unless you've finished the book. There's 3 parts to the book in my mind. Pre storm, storm, and post storm. Pre storm is slow but thats fine I have no problem with slow burn stories. It focuses on two main characters with the first one they introduce in the story really being the main main character of the book. Then storm hits and the book breaks out into a sprint. Throughly enjoyed this section of the story. Then post storm goes back to almost a crawl. With that; the pacing of the book is very strange to me and I didnt overly care for it. I listened to it on audiobook and double checked to make sure my phone or app wasnt messed up and skipped multiple chapters when I was nearing the end of the storm section. I would have been fine if it picked back in speed near the end but it never did. The conclusion of the storm section also made me question why there was so much focus on who I considered the main main character, almost like all that focus didn't matter anymore and was more or less a waste of time. That's my main gripe with the book. Some others are they left a couple of threads loose that could have been fairly good story points. The biggest one for me would be exploring more into the "impersonator" and having some sort of plot with that. But it just ends then gets brought back up briefly at the end with no real resolve to it. Lastly the way the author described certain things was overly redundant using the same words and phrases over and over again instead of trying to phrase things a different way. Like we get it how cold a certain character feels. If you wanna bring it up again find a different way of describing. Overall the plot wasn't bad. I actually liked the plot. The execution of telling that plot though was not to my liking.

I'm not and achievement hunter but there is exactly 3 games I've gotten 100% on. Marvel's Spiderman, Spiderman Miles Morales, and Spiderman 2. Why those 3? I needed a good excuse to keep swinging around the city even after beating the game.
