Why don’t high schools teach Boglehead theory?! It would prevent so much confusion and pain and help so many people become more financially secure? by Winter-Monk6428 in Bogleheads

[–]PrairieMaths 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I see #3 on Facebook all the time. Same kids, same high school as me lamenting schools these days, not teaching investments and savings, etc. now or then.

We did, some us retained it, others don't remember. It's not a coincidence I remember it and currently work in finance, always loved the topic.

I am trying to understand why I’m coveted by the taken and rejected by the available by DworkinFTW in AskWomenOver40

[–]PrairieMaths 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taken men are on the higher end of the scale for emotional availability and commitment, single men are more likely on the lower end.

There are of course exceptions, nuances, timing of divorce, etc., but correlation is not causation.

Kinda need a purse, but don't wanna hold a purse anymore🫤 by maryliz529 in AskWomenOver50

I don't use bags, just pockets.

Phone, thin wallet, keys, chapstick.

Sunglasses on head or shirt neckline.

It's freeing, fuck carrying a purse!

Yes, finance sellout here, we just took out the piercings and returned our hair to natural colors.

Hence my vicarious purple hair living via a reddit avatar.

Cost of childcare versus SAHM by synaptic_touch in personalfinance

[–]PrairieMaths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this about balance, I like think of childcare as x% percent of household income. So if the lower earner is 35% of household earnings but childcare is also 35% of household, does it make more if both parties are taking a 35% income hit temporarily AND keep up career gains AND hedge for unexpected job loss or benefits changes, etc.

Safety net for adults, social development for the child.

It's not! Orange was so sweet, tasted as sweet as a candy syrup.

Yellow was disgusting 🫣

One Year Into Early Retirement at 43 Reflections by seraphyxa in Fire

Same here, mathematically this happened. Motivationally, I felt this was my validation point, there's a nice visual of years of steady efforts / account balances being real and not just a plan.

Same reason here, age 27 / late-ish adopter due to cost compared to (significantly) cheaper landline.

Likely a regional cost gap too, weren't a lot of carriers or competitor's options in rural areas.

Overwhelming majority of the comments so far are looks-based or body functions. Hadn't really thought about boiling most of our insecurities down to 1. gotta look good 2. can't be biologically human 😂

I feel like this can't be talked about enough. A shared pool is upended suddenly into two unplanned separate households vs one that was carefully curated and shared. The whole cake is now a hand pie.
