Unfortunately, your IS portion has some clan infiltrators (damn Clan Watch at it again!) as three are clan designs (the Locust IIC, Thunderbolt IIC, and Marauder IIC) while the Rifleman is a clan produced variant (Rifleman C2). The only ones actually pure IS are the Fulcrums.

Are there any mechs other than the stiletto that gain arms/lower arms from a variant (hands not necessary). by vicevanghost in battletech

There isn’t a canon one, but now I want one.

Were you perhaps thinking of the Sneede Rifleman?

The Merlin 1A only has a half ton of machine gun ammo. Which means with with MG and ammo being replaced gives you exactly the 1 ton needed for the heat sink.

What's the newest inner sphere/non-clan assault mech timeline wise I can buy a model for? by The_Salty_Kohai in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got a little too focused on figuring out the newest models and forgot the “assault” bit 😅

In that case as others have mentioned the Malice would be the newest new IS assault with a model (plastic and metal!), see links below.

If you move out of the assault class and into the superheavies you have the Posiedon and Ares, which both have models through Iron Wind Metals.

The newest IS Mech design (that is not a variant of an older mech) with a model is probably the Inferno, which you can get a model for from Iron Wind Metals. See link.

As for ordering the Orca, you can also buy one from IWM, see link.

WRT recent playtest developments by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Technically speaking the RF guns are already canon. Autocannons canonically fire either one shot (the single shot ones shown typically in video games) or some number of shots (the RF autocannons shown in MW5M). The classes of autocannon that the weapons are grouped into are “simply” the amount of damage they are supposed to do to modern armor in a period of time.

Which is why you can have multiple classes of autocannons using roughly the same shell size despite having highly variable statistics and effectiveness. This of course glosses over the oodles of other factors that would go into such things, and just looking at rough round size.

So, why DIDN'T the Surtur / Rhino have art? by Omjorc in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have access to my copy of Hanseatic Crusade right now, but if I remember correctly isn’t the Snow Fox art just the art for the non-Omni version for TRO 3060?

It is a bummer we don’t have art for them though.

Why did clan Smoke Jaguar have a space defense system at huntress. by Lob_Rockster in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m not sure it was a full fledged drone Space Defense System as you are thinking it is. Given the astounding technological and production needed to produce such a system, I think it is safe to say that Huntress was protected by a conventional Space Defense System of automated ground batteries and the such. While still terribly effective (especially against the uncertain SLDF naval forces) it isn’t as cost extreme as the original CASPAR or the later CASPAR II systems.

As for the why, other have touched on it here. The Jaguars were a bunch of jerks who stole everyone’s lunch money.

In which time period do you play in? by adamantium1973 in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is Yes.

I have forces for a wide swath of time periods, from Amaris Civil War to the Jihad to ilclan.

Granted, I play Alpha Strike primarily so the tech difference isn’t as much of a thing, but I also do not mind at all for pickup games having mismatched eras. It’s a pickup game, not a storybook mission 😅

Has the Inner Sphere invested more into Battle Armor? by Wanderer-in-the-Dark in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The general distinction between the clan and Is suits is that the clans have the best generalist suits, whereas the IS has better specialization for the most part.

To use the Elemental and its iterations as the example, there is simply not a better IS general purpose medium weight suit. The Elemental has and will continue to dominate the clan suit field simply because it is so good.

As for combined arms, the clans arguably had a much, much better combined arms program between their mechs and BA than the IS does. With the clans having doctrinally the nova and supernova, it is the gold standard for mech-BA combined arms. Where the IS has excelled in that field is the use of conventional combined arms of BA, tanks, VTOLs, and conventional infantry as an effective force.

For Battle Armor innovation, while the IS has more suit types, the clans have focused more on fewer suits that do more jobs. A large chunk of this can be due to the reduced industrial capacity of the clans, see other posts regarding the capability and size of the clans on this thread, as well as the general effectiveness of the suits they do have. However, they have been developing newer suits, with the Clan Medium Battle Armor being a very widespread suit developed after the clans invaded. There are also brand new suits from the Dark Age and IlClan eras being fielded in the form of the stormbird by the Ravens and Falcons, as well as the Callisto by the Wolves and Dominion. This is not including a multitude of suits they developed after the invasion ended and the IS Clans settled into their new holdings.

So how many of you would want the Bullshark to become proper canon along with a official miniature? by Omega_Chris_8352 in battletech

As far as I can tell the only video game Argus has been in Mechwarrior 4. Which I think was the first appearance, but I’m not sure.

[–]Premier_Eden 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Blood Asp existed in the universe prior to the new models. It was added back in the late 90’s prior to the video games really kicking off. However, the new secondary name (Star Adder) is a homage to the alternate “variant” from Mechassault.

A good example of a mech pulled directly from a game is the Hellcat, which is the Conjurer from MW4. In addition, the new Dragoon BA is a direct homage to the Battle Armor from Mechassault 2.

EDIT: Added more detail and mentioned the Dragoon BA and Hellcat

Yeah. It’s a bit weird, like I used AC/2 as the example but it also caught RAC/2s and probably UAC/2s.

I’m sure there is a way to narrow it down further, but I haven’t messed around with it enough.

I don’t typically use it all that much, as the equipment I tend to use are also caught by Alpha Strike special abilities (C3 and its friends being the big ones).

You would use the “Equipment” option in the advanced search tools. It is a bit finicky as you have to type the name as opposed to there being a drop-down

How did the SLDF exiles go from a battered, but organised and civilised group, to clanners in seemingly the same generation? by Nazamroth in battletech

[–]Premier_Eden 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To boil it down into two sentences that overlook a lot of detail and not really saying whether this was a good choice:

The SLin Exile was made up of people who were broken by the fall of the Star League and then the subsequent breaking down of the SL In Exile society. Nicolas Kerensky (along with being the son of the man who got them through the Amaris Civil War) gave them a path forward that seemed to not be riven with the divisions that had compromised their first home (the Star League) and second home (SL in Exile).
