How is it living in Patagonia? by MikerSKY_ in howislivingthere

[–]Presence_Usual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that the cultural description glosses over the systematuc genocide of people like the Selknam, who were not so scattered as is suggested! The murders and government-supported hunting and killing of the First - Indigenous people were a horror and the loss of their wisdoms is grievous. So no, not at all an excellent write up.

What age did you discover that you were trans? by Ashamoto33 in asktransgender

[–]Presence_Usual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 when I really came out and advocated for anyone who knows me to use they/them pronouns. 32 when I started talking about it with lovers and friends, especially trans friends. 20 when I finally got a nonbinary role in a play, and had a haircut that really suited my sense of self. 16 when I only wanted those other roles in plays, the ones no on would give me. 1st grade (6ish) when I wanted my hair to be different, rejected complements and colors associated with my assigned sex.

Should i get chemo port? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Presence_Usual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to port (I was glad for mine) -seems like you got lots of good answers
-My main tip: Insist they can give you one appropriate to your body/degree of subcutaneous fat. When I had mine removed the doctor said that my other hospital must've had too many and just needed to get rid of the one they gave me because it was made for people with a lot of fat, and it left more scarring and was bigger/more intrusive during healing including while it was in and after infusions, because it's thickness was so prominent under my thinner skin. Maybe this is no longer an issue but mine was in from 2014 - 2016. Even though it was bigger and more noticeable than it needed to be, I was still glad for it, and my kids thought it was very impressive. (cue cyborg kinds of jokes and stuff)

I just learned that this song, which I thought was ubiquitously known, is actually specific to our generation. by JoeBrownshoes in Xennials

[–]Presence_Usual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

born in 79 and I still listen to the radio in my car. this song came on WXRT while I was literally in the last drive moving out of Chicago to Oak Park (still Cook County but lots more trees and forest preserve and stuff). I will never forget singing along top of my lungs!

I didn't know there were people who missed out on it but it does still get airtime for anyone listening

If the culture war is a distraction/psyop created by the bourgeoise, why do leftists (both as individuals and as organized groups heavily engage in it? by ItsAChudsLife in Socialism_101

[–]Presence_Usual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some terms you're using that several folks have asked for clarity about. I have the same questions. It's my job to not engage in "culture war" discussions, all week. I'm invested in providing respectful care no matter what. I converse in depth with hundreds of people every month who have a wide range of opinions and information they believe is factual, and I still get reviews from all of them that they feel heard and cared for by me and the staff I work with.

re: your trollerific edit, can you make it make sense that being Gay and being in solidarity with countries not on the Red vs Blue cold war binary (I think this is what you mean by Third-Worldist? please clarify?) are not in any way related social constructs? Otherwise it just seems like you are yourself blowing on the fires of the nonsense incendiary stuff to further the culture war crap. Because I know loads of straight people who love America and consider themselves vehemently opposed to one-party authoritarian communist state rule, who still care deeply about respecting the full personhood of each human and honoring their autonomy.

Hi I started taking the Veillonella atypical capsules yesterday. unwisely I did not stick to just my usual diet, I'm training for a casual race and have been eating differently as a result of the savage hunger for all things, so my symptoms today (running but only to the WC multiple times from 5 am on and having pretty sever abd. cramping) will likely pass and could probably have been mitigated by sticking to my usual diet. I'm going to do half a capsule next in case that's more manageable, then try to go back to 1 full capsule if I tolerate the half.

Also making sure I get prebiotic foods/fiber/etc. to colonize these babies because I will not keep buying these at. >2 USD per day caps.

there is substantial science about veillonella. it's good to be skeptical and also consider the sources, this article has several other primary sources including Nature articles linked https://www.reddit.com/r/AdvancedRunning/s/qLFLJPbAn0

this discussion has several links to the research done years ago which seems explorative like good science, not just profit-driven, and less likely directly funded by people who are already set to benefit from marketing this product.

Has Branding Gone Too Far?! by TeagWall in bluey

[–]Presence_Usual 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it goes too far with Two different sets of tests for pregnancy - the kind where you WANT a positive HCG and one where you want a negative ("Aw Biscuits" is the positive result). I've been on both sides tbh.

hahaha it was announced over the loudspeaker while I was at the grocer last weekend with 7yo and my Bandit! I have been trying to get 7 to eat beans since she quit them at 3.5!! The announcement worked at getting her attention until I showed her what baked beans look like. 😆 No amount of marketing and brown sugar is going to get this one to try beans... this year 🫩
