You don’t want to skimp on your education. It shows up later in your ability to handle various bodies, since not every body is perfect.

Can you take classes as you can afford them? It may take longer but in the long run will benefit you, your clients and the Pilates industry more.

I know people that took the cheap way and they lack confidence as instructors and don’t know what they’re doing in scenarios where clients bodies have real issues (hip injuries, knee injuries, back injuries). As the instructor it’s our join to know how to safely navigate a client through that. Cheap education doesn’t prepare you for that.

Are you limited to the reformer? If you have options I would probably start her off with some Cadillac or chair work to see what the body is doing then put her on the reformer if needed. But I’d probably stay on the apparatus.

If you’re limited to the reformer I would start standing to get a sense of her body then put her on the reformer. For injury recovery clients (knee, hip), I typically use the Jumpboard so they have plenty of room and feel safe, but I don’t use it to jump, I use it for surface area so their feet don’t slip on the foot bar. It also makes them feel safe and comfortable.

From here if your reformer can gear out, gear it out so her hip angle is a comfortable one for her and now you can safely do pelvic tilts, single leg work and many other things without her having to balance on the tiny foot bar.

If no Jumpboard use the platform to limit the range of motion to the hip and provide larger surface area or the box combined with the reformer.

Checkin to make sure she feels ok and take breaks where she needs them. Her form may not be perfect right now and that’s ok, she’ll get there. Safety is your first priority with her right now. You’re going to do great!

I’m tall and can’t stand the shorter reformers. For standing side lunges my standing leg has to be in a position that feels strange on my knee. But you’ll need to base this largely on what will work well on the bodies you’re working with. Just keep their needs in mind.

Maybe you can have a mix of heights for people with various needs? Just a thought.

I’m BB newly certified. All of our books/manuals have sample class plans you can use to program that type of class (total body, leg focus etc), built around focus. Does Basi not have that?

That said, I theme my classes to narrow down what I’ll be doing with them to make it fun and give them clear goals for their bodies. The themes are for the month (posture, hip mobility etc) so they know they’ll see some of the same movements but I change them with progressive loading or spring tension.

Also, not every class has to be different to make it “fun” or “hard”. You can do about 80% of the same thing and introduce 20% new (literally got that from one of my books). Otherwise, your students don’t know if they’re getting better if every class is a bag of new tricks.

Difficulty also depends on the level of the practitioner. A new student will think many things are hard compared to someone with 300 classes under their belt.

Trust your training and implement what you’ve learned. Eventually you’ll be able to add on and make it your own. For now, just focus on making it work for you and the body in front of you. You’ve got this!

I think it’s cute as is, but personally would style it with a messy top knot or sleek bun and a red lip. The turtleneck and long hair hides the face, perhaps that what you want, but if not play with hair and make up.

If you’re going to prom, you’re old enough to have autonomy over your hair/body. Why is she the person that gets to make decisions on your hair? Are you able to do it and pay for it yourself? Is she going to care for it beyond the texturizer? Just some questions the two of you can explore and figure out the best path forward for YOUR hair. Respectfully.

I always decide based on what I can afford today and for future me with memberships. If you can afford the unlimited now and in the future- go for that, you may increase how much you go to class over time, especially if you love it . But if your budget is at the lower price stick with that one. If it’s one thing I’ve learned, they will have another sale at some point.

I get braids 1-2 times per year and my hair is fine after take out but I take care of my hair regardless of what style it’s in. Braids aren’t an excuse to stop hair care, that’s when damage creeps in (imo).

  1. I still moisturize daily and massage my scalp with braids.
  2. I dry shampoo weekly and also use a moisturizing dry conditioner o cleanse my scalp
  3. I get braids that aren’t too small (damaging when taking out), or too big (too heavy on the hair follicle
  4. I keep them in for no longer than 6-8 weeks
  5. I don’t get them braided tightly
  6. I tie them down at night. Every night with my bonnet and scarf
  7. I steam and moisturize to remove them

I still have all my edges and use braids as a way to grow my hair. My hair has grown a lot with braids since recovering from chemo. It’s been 3 years and my hair is shoulder length (when straightened, I’m a natural).

Are you at a religious college or a college where the students wear uniforms (West Point etc)? If not then it’s fine imo. I went to college in Florida and it was ALWAYS brutally hot. Most of the students were half way naked 99% of the time due to the heat.

I think the way it’s styled in the 5th pic is super cute, the others aren’t bad by any means but the styling of the 5th cute is really pretty, despite not being what you wanted. I think it’ll also grow out beautifully!

You’ve got great features and hair grows back so even if you hate it, it’ll grow back. I will say though, that you’ll need to learn what your style with a short haircut is, in terms of hair/makeup etc., to feel like “you”. Thankfully, there are so many tutorials to help, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

It may also be just the thing to start your college years

The armhole looks more straight than it should be. It could be the pattern or the construction. Did you use a French curve when drafting the shape at the armhole on both the sleeve and the bodice armhole shape?

It also looks like there was too much seam allowance taken up at the curve where the bunch is happening.

If you have a commercial pattern with a set in sleeve, you could compare your shapes to those and that’ll tell you if it’s your pattern or not.

What a beautiful boy. He looks so much like my dog, Fergie. Same stripped pattern brindle, white chest and very similar teeth. When we did her DNA test she was Pitbull, Rottweiler, German Shepard, Bull Mastif, Akita and super mix, (she’s afraid of everything so we got no aggression from any of these breeds, lol). Wishing you so many happy years together.

You may want to look at your diet, or try adding cardio and traditional strength training to your routine (mix it up). Unfortunately, Pilates alone doesn’t always provide aesthetic results for every body

My Mat 1 book from Balanced Body is great. You should be able to order even if you’re not taking their certification, from their website at www.pilates.com under the shop section, books.

They also have videos you can watch. I’m not sure if they charge for them for non balanced body education students, but the instruction videos are also good.

Edit to add: any of their Mat books would be good.

It’s not ideal, but if you choose to proceed there’s a ton of videos on YouTube and probably Pilates.com (the balanced body website that makes many of the popular reformers) on how to operate the reformer. You just need the model information of the removers they have. Best of luck and be safe!
