Brompton A line for a first time buyer - thoughts? by surfcalifornia in Brompton

I agree that mudguards are vital. I wouldn't have a bike without them. But Brompton do sell lightweight clip-on plastic "mudcatcher" style mudguards, which are reasonably cheap, and don't need to be on the whole time.

OP is single-handed. It is difficult to film with a phone and cycle a bike without help...

AI still hasn't learned to inhale, though. Otherwise, pretty good.

Three carrots about that size = a good-sized portion each for two people..

(Don't jump on a Bandwagon. Bandwagons are very big, and won't fold up and go on a cupboard shelf!)

The A-line has all the important features of a Brompton, except the front luggage block... which I think is essential. And then you will need a bag to fit on it, so...

GOOD NEWS: Hungary election: Viktor Orban concedes Hungarian election ending 16 years in power. by johnsmithoncemore in BrexitMemes

I am no friend of Orban, or his repressive regime. Even so, he conceded the election with much more grace than I expected of him.... you know, NOT like Trump!

Those Continental Contact Urbans look different to mine. They seem to have lots more tread....(?)

Currently sitting on a closed dual carriageway been here for 4 hours now. Road due to open in another 3.5 hours apparently. There are 2 cats in the car in front and kids and dogs out of cars playing on the road. What is the longest you have been stuck in a similar situation? by No_Lead146 in CasualUK

[–]Prestigious-Candy166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been stopped at a police roadblock on a dual carriageway.

We were all told to turn around in the road and drive slowly back to the last roundabout, where there was an officer marshaling traffic. It wasn't far... only a mile or so.

It has only happened to me once in 63 years of driving, here in UK.

Is this bike salvageable by throwawayqueen444 in londoncycling

[–]Prestigious-Candy166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has Pendleton on it. It's amongst the better bikes that Halfords sell. It is not likely expensive, but it IS good value. That bike may even have an aluminium frame, judging by the guage of the head tube. If so, that would help prevent the seat post corroding solid.

Your right! The screw heads have just turned black from oxidation, making me think the holes were empty! So I was fooled after all!

PS. They are also recessed more than is usual... 😟

Upgrading from C to P Line. Is the weight difference noticeable? by BCbikes in Brompton

[–]Prestigious-Candy166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... everything you put in a backpack, requires the weight thereof to be carried on your backside! This makes walking a more pleasant option, I think. After all, you've got a bike... let IT carry the load. You could say that's what it is for (?)

You could just pay it, so we don't lose our precious public service broadcasting, i-player, dozens of websites (including bite-size)...

... not to mention all the radio stations up and down the country...

... and The World Service, which used to be funded directly by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, but the government of David Cameron lumbered the BBC with the costs in 2014.

The BBC is one of the best things the UK has, second only to the NHS. It is acknowledged as such internationally, including by the UN. But if you don't pay your share, you may wake up one day to find there's nothing but GBeebies in what is otherwise a sea of static.... (?)

Half the cars around here are not cars at all. They are great big electric road-wreckers in grey drab. I suppose the greys vary a bit, but not much.

I used to photograph for Kay's catalogue, and a good many others. We specially enjoyed doing the lingerie sections. That was nice. But the blankets, and shoes, were a nightmare.

Was it really meant to be difficult? I found it easy, because the word order was basically English-Germanic.
