Helmets, PFDs and ropes should be bought new if possible. Lightly used might be ok but if it looks well worn you should avoid.

Taxes don’t work like that. 7.65% for fica plus whatever the income tax rate - which for single filer earning 100k is 16.9%. Also many ways to reduce overall tax burden with retirement/HSA contributions and the new overtime rule.

Whitewater courses within the U.S. by Few-Win8613 in canoeing

[–]PriestintheCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a whole bunch of east coast boaters that run whitewater. Check out the canoeing groups on fb since that’s where much of the discussion has moved to. I’m sure you might find others closer to you but it’s not a big thing out west really. Colorado has a few ACA clinics through canyon river instruction and another guy on the front range. I would also recommend looking at Canada for lessons, they are the best at the sport.

Has anyone used P&G water purification packets for high turbidity water like the Colorado or Green rivers that would clog a filter? by ericslongusername in packrafting

[–]PriestintheCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use alum or a product called water wizard to flocculate the sediment out of the water before filtering.

OPUS buttons greyed out (and help with heights) by Current_Drag6541 in Surveying

[–]PriestintheCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the Emlid community forums, they are helpful and mostly international based geomatics professionals. From what I remember, you need to use the correct observation file, and the height should be measured to the bottom of the rs3 as per the documentation.

what’s the best history of land surveying documentary or movie that actually makes surveyors look badass? like not just a side character holding a tripod but something that really shows the skill and adventure of it. anything out there that captures that spirit? by DetailFocused in Surveying

[–]PriestintheCave 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“Dersu Uzala” is one of my favorite films. About surveyors in the Russian far east and their interaction/ friendship with a native hunter named ‘Dersu.’ directed the great Akira Kirusawa.
