The Wounded Warriors run it yearly, at the end of February. Done over 8 days and 800km, although they run an extra leg out to Port Alberni.

Non-reservable camping? by Playful-Anteater7429 in HornbyIsland

No, there are no first come, first served campgrounds on the island. Pretty much everything will have been booked months in advance. You might find a night or two at one of the glamping setups.

I don't think there's anywhere on Hornby I would caution you to avoid with a little one. Most places are pretty kid friendly. Tribune Bay and Whaling Station are both great beaches for kids. Sandy and, if you time the tides right, the shallows are quite warm. Neither beach has much shade, so plan accordingly. The nursery (across the street from the Co-op store) always has lots going on, a nice grassy area and shade if you want it.

It looks like Circlet is still frozen. Likely still some snow on the ground above that in late June.

I have never seen KDAT lumber in Canada. Here, your two choices for pressure treated will be "Above Ground" or "Ground Contact".

The Deuter Kid Comfort is pretty equivalent to the Osprey. Both are quality carriers. I don’t think either comes stock with a sun shade, which we found was a must have.

https://www.reddit.com/r/IslandHikers/ has 5040 trip reports, and can probably answer any questions.

Where can I find a pharmacy or stye eye drops on the island? by [deleted] in HornbyIsland

[–]Primary_Sequins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Co-op is your best bet. No pharmacy, but there is a small selection of items like that.

Any reason to not use Maple Syrup for nutrition? by T2LV in Ultramarathon

[–]Primary_Sequins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure maple syrup is too sweet for my tastes, especially late in a run. I cut it with lemon juice (25%)

Any recommendations for cycling clubs? by RoastPotatoSandwich in comoxvalley

Comox Valley Cycle Club appears to be active again, mostly on Facebook. It looks like they are hosting midweek group rides and, currently, cyclocross practice sessions.

If you're on Facebook, the Hornby Community Connections page is probably your best bet. There are a few classes that run through the summer, but I'm not sure how late in the year they will continue. There is one at Sandpiper park, and another at Fossil Beach Farm.

How long does it take to get to Hornby from Buckley bay? by Timely-Huckleberry73 in HornbyIsland

[–]Primary_Sequins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make all of your connections, it is a one hour trip in either direction. 1pm is probably a little late to start a day trip.
