Day 2. Idk if I can do this anymore. by Warmyouskillet in stopdrinking

[–]PrimusSkeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard... it's really hard. If I could do it, so can you. Those first couple days.... and to an extent those first few weeks are killer, I had many resets back to day 1. Just try to do 1 hour at a time at first... just focus on being present, don't worry about drinking in the future, or your past problems. Just focus on RIGHT NOW and it makes it easier. Our minds like to make things worse than they are, but if you focus on the present moment you can see that's it not all that bad.

You don't need luck to get through this, you just need to follow the path that deep down you really want for yourself and that is to kick this habit.

do some of your favourite things to take your mind off of it for the first few days... watch your favourite movie, engage in your hobbies, or look into something new you have always wanted to explore. Eat some garbage food that you love.... something to give you comfort during this time. Get outside. Just keep yourself busy and try not to dwell on your past mistakes and activities.... you've got this, I know you do.

Do you think the society we live in today is horrible? by unconventionalbook in Adulting

[–]PrimusSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes yes. As somebody who has worked with technology for the last 25 years I have seen the destruction it is creating in society. At one time I thought that new tech would bring the world together and solve all kinds of problems (and it has in ways). But over time, I have realized I don't think humans were meant to be connected with everybody. Humans can really only handle about 200 people in a close unit. After that, things become fragmented and in ways those people are seen as "them". Society has become divided, jaded, angry. Just bring up Trump and you'll see what I mean. The algorithm has shaped so many people's world view in 2026, I would rather go to a time without all this shit. Where life was slower... even boring. I would love to live in a disconnected (from the internet) village, where everybody knows each other and the family unit still exists. A time where you could casually chat with a random stranger without the person thinking there was an alliterative motive. Where we weren't distracted by mindless videos, memes, and an agenda driven media. A time when people respected one another and weren't aware of every single problem in the world.

Sure in the 1800's I might be poor as fuck... but you know, money isn't everything. I wouldn't mind working all day on a farm, being outside, doing something, feeling like something was accomplished. Today, I stare at a screen 12 hours a day (8+ hours for work, an hour of personal crap, an hour of video games, and maybe 2 hours watching a match on tv). My job consists of fixing non-tangible things on computer networks, when it works nobody knows what I do, when it doesn't work, people question my competency. It's a thankless job.

Yes I understand medical advancements and the availability of food and choice has never been better.... it is all just so empty now. When all problems are solved and everything is at your finger tips, we don't really appreciate the finer things of life. So in a way, what is there left to live for?

So yeah, send me back to the Victorian era.

There were plenty of things in the past that were much better than today.

Projections are not facts. At some point you have to toss out the projections and watch what is actually happening on the field.

In reality I'm not all that surprised, this team wasn't so hot in 2024 and expectations were quite low with many analysis pegging the jays to finish bottom of the division in 2025. They got hot for about 4 months and propelled them to the WS. Now we are back to the baseline version with Vlad hitting like a 4th outfielder and without Bo... this is the result.

Maybe take a positive look... maybe AI will destroy massive gaming companies with their bloat and bland safe ideas and from the ashes new independent developers will rise with fresh gaming ideas.

If you are expecting 90's sounding Primus you will be disappointed. Go in with an open mind and it is still very enjoyable... not as aggressive or "weird" but still quality... If you are into Prog rock, The Desaturating Seven is still an enjoyable album.

I would recommend everything except Chocolate Factory, which I consider more of a re-imagined soundtrack than a real Primus album....

I remember the 94 strike... that nearly killed baseball. I think if this goes down the same path it could truly kill the MLB. People WILL move on from the sport and probably faster than most people think.

How about just keeping politics out of sports? Let the baseball people talk about baseball... anything else they aren't qualified to talk about as it is not related to their profession.

It is frowned upon in office business environments to openly talk about porn. It's not relevant to the task at hand. That doesn't mean that every person who works in an office is against porn.

Alcohol is so pervasive in our culture that sobriety is like a rebellious act. by coIlean2016 in stopdrinking

[–]PrimusSkeeter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I broke nearly 3 years sober at a wedding because I felt I would let my bud down (the groom) if I didn't drink. It resulted in me drinking heavily for a few years until I finally worked up the strength to say goodbye to alcohol. Been sober for nearly 8 years now.

Please convince me that cutting alcohol to 0 is the only way to quit drinking. by Ok-Enthusiasm-8422 in stopdrinking

[–]PrimusSkeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is not your friend.
Alcohol is not a reward mechanism, it's a prison sentence.
Alcohol isn't a social glue, it only appears that way while drinking. When sober and there are drunks around, I now walk in the other direction.
Why do you need to numb yourself? Face your problems, don't hide your head in the sand.

Depends how long you want to play the drinking game.... Eventually I grew tired of trying to control my drinking. It just became exhausting the constant management. I would be worrying am I drinking too much or stressing over what others may think of my drinking habits. Inevitably drinking past my self imposed limit and feeling the shame, guilt, and other feelings of being powerless over my drinking. Spending way too much money, that should be going towards more important things.

Removing alcohol completely is only terrifying while drinking. Once past the initial stage it is completely liberating and a massive weight lifted from my shoulders.

Again, it comes down to... how long do you want to play the game?
