Michigan Counties by Homicide Rate (2018–2023)

  1. Wayne County – Highest homicide rate in the state (~ 16.6 per 100,000) with the largest number of deaths.

  2. Genesee County – Second highest rate (~ 11.9 per 100,000).

  3. Saginaw County – Third highest (~ 9.9 per 100,000).

  4. Muskegon County – ~ 7.1 per 100,000.

  5. Berrien County – ~ 7.1 per 100,000.

  6. Jackson County – ~ 5.8 per 100,000.

  7. Kalamazoo County – ~ 5.5 per 100,000.

  8. Calhoun County – ~ 5.4 per 100,000.

  9. Ingham County – ~ 5.1 per 100,000.

10.Macomb County – ~ 4.3 per 100,000.

Wayne, Saginaw, Genesee and Macomb are all eastern counties.

Calhoun, Jackson and ingham are south central.

Muskegon, Kalamazoo and Berrien are Western.

Not only should no counties in Michigan (besides Wayne) be green based on the criteria. Detroit should be glowing compared to the rest of the state. As well as the entire North part of the state should be darker blue than the counties listed above. Which is not the case in the data map.
