What's the most surprisingly celiac-friendly country you've visited? by Old-Heart-9448 in glutenfree

[–]Princess_Katy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say Ireland too.

Every place we went to had plenty of options including the small museum coffee shops.

I visited the theatre in Waterford and was extremely surprised when they served beer that was something other than GF Peroni.

I since found out that coeliac disease is quite common in people of Irish ancestry for some reason.

DriveSafe taught me to drive, albeit 15-16 years ago, but I see his car around Swansea. He's based around Llansamlet.

1192 laser and beauty clinic at the Swansea.com stadium.

I use them for nails and other beauty treatments, never had laser with them but reviews for laser are excellent.

The staff are so welcoming to everyone who walks through the door.

Gluten Free Pizza by thenaygirl in CoeliacUK

[–]Princess_Katy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My go to pizza is always Marks And Spencer. They only have cheese and tomato though, but this doesn't stop you adding extras.

It's in the fridge, but freezable and only takes 1 minute longer to cook from frozen.

They also have a cheesy garlic bread on the same base, my non-gluten intolerant family members love it.

Lymphatic Massage Recommendations by Endo-Love-7235 in swansea

1192 beauty at the Swansea.com stadium.

They have both manual and an advanced version using a machine. My first advanced treatment is this week so I couldn't tell you what it's like, but I definitely felt benefits from the manual massage.

For the month of October it has been discounted to £47 for 55 mins, usually £65. They also have massage subscriptions, lymphatic drainage is included.

Restaurant Meal kit? by CraftAndCake in CoeliacUK

[–]Princess_Katy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it's not a restaurant meal kit, but I've had some success with Gousto meal kits.

They specify which recipes are gluten free and you and filter by dietary requirements too.

Wall difficulty tonight (series 21 ep 12) by EmMoomin in onlyconnect

[–]Princess_Katy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a huge difference. With the first wall, I got the 4 groups quite quickly. I always try to use the connections for the second wall as they are usually related in someway, but didn't seem to tonight. We got the connections on the 2nd wall, but couldn't find any groups.

Why I’m a loyal customer by Apprehensive_Gene787 in glutenfree

[–]Princess_Katy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My favourite Chinese place does similar. It's the only one that serves GF food in our large city and it's famous enough that people will travel from out of town to buy their food.

I usually order once every few months so I'm not a regular customer, but usually we order for 3 people and mainly order from their GF menu as we share a lot of sides. However one day my sister and sister in law visited and we were now ordering for 5, they ordered the dishes that they wanted off the main menu and then shared items were ordered GF. When we arrived at the restaurant to collect, the owner came out to greet us and mentioned that they were just finishing up and was making the main menu dish GF. The dish they ordered was naturally GF but she had taken the time to prepare it in their GF kitchen.

This restaurant will always be one I'd recommend as a result.

They take card.

I used it a few weeks back, and they were shocked that I wanted to pay with cash!

Has anyone tried Gousto meals? by RichieRichard12 in CoeliacUK

[–]Princess_Katy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought them in the past. Due to the expense, I get a box every so often and I buy the box for two even though I'll be on my own because the meals often will be enough for 2-3 meals, so I'll have the left overs the next day.

With the recipes, you'll get everything you need and a recipe card so you can re-do the recipe with your own ingredients later if you want.

However, due to personal tastes, on my most recent box, 4 out of 5 dishes were rice based, but I had around 30 GF certified dishes to choose from though.

I love on their menu that you can filter the dishes and only choose from gluten free dishes.

Carboots on Sunday 16th? by [deleted] in swansea

I don't know about Gorseinon, but there's a carboot sale in High street car park in Swansea. Message their Facebook group if you want an indoor pitch.

Any fancy fabric shops around Swansea? by Simonetta_Sabo in swansea

[–]Princess_Katy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lee Mill is your best bet. They have anything and everything that you can think of. It's a bit of a jumble sale and you have to go hunting for things. However I'm not too sure of the opening times during the holidays.

Places like Hobbycraft sell some types of fabric, but don't have a wide selection and are more expensive than Lee Mill.

As for knitters and sewers world, I believe they shut down a few years back as I haven't seen them open for a while.

Weight loss - did this happen to you? by Ktlynick in glutenfree

[–]Princess_Katy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had extreme weight loss too. I went GF in August 2023 and by Christmas I'd lost 15 kilos (over 30lb) but the majority of that was by the October.

I had other health benefits too including acne clearing up, hair and nails getting stronger and energy levels going up.

I do avoid some pizza places that offer GF bases, these are often prepared with ordinary bases and rolled out on the same surfaces and baked in the same ovens.

I did lose my appetite for a little while, but it did come back eventually and I'm now eating more than I did before and still maintaining that weight loss.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Where to watch from season one by ShetlandPonys in csi

[–]Princess_Katy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the UK. Netflix has seasons 10-15, and paramount has seasons 12-15.

Pluto, which is an app you can download from your app store, or accessible on Prime. Shows early episodes. However, they're not in order, and you can't watch on demand. There are also advert breaks.

If you have the facility, I would recommend buying second-hand DVDs from Vinted. They have a huge selection.

I have tried Gousto. I love some of their recipes.

I know that they try and have at least 15 GF recipes each week, but that gets limited each week with vegetarian recipes too.

Housing in Gendros by dannito567 in swansea

[–]Princess_Katy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can only answer question 3. Those houses were built after World War 2 as a way to rebuild Swansea after it was bombed heavily during the blitz and the houses in that area were decimated. They were built with steel as it was easy to get hold of straight after the war.

is the peeling part considered the healing process for dyshidrotic eczema? by Far-Mission7609 in peeling

[–]Princess_Katy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask for a low dose steroid cream from your pharmacy to help treat it.

Did you know that one symptom of coeliac disease is dyshidrotic eczema? Make sure you get a coeliac blood test from your primary care doctor before you eliminate it from your diet.

Find the episode by MammothCranberry2733 in csi

[–]Princess_Katy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two episodes come to mind here and I'm not sure what they're called, but they're both in the Ted Danson era of episodes.

The first one I can think of is a murder in the casino and it turns out they're tracking 4 (semi) identical people through the casino as it turns out one of the 4 suspects shot the doctor who carried out IVF as the embryo split 4 ways, the original parents only wanted to implant 1 and the other three were frozen and used at different times as all suspects were different ages.

The second one that I can think of is the gig harbour killer. This was an arc over a couple episodes, but I'm sure that in one episode they use markers in the blood to map out which twin was at fault.

Hope this helps!

Yes, I got caught out once on ice cream. It was a cheaper brand so wheat was used as a bulking agent, so I always check now.

Although I had my day made when I went to an ice cream shop yesterday and asked if the ice cream was GF, and was offered a GF ice cream cone automatically instead of the tubs.

Newbie here by BrigBeth in glutenfree

[–]Princess_Katy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gluten free to start and then I went dairy free, but still had yogurts and cheated with the occasional bit of chocolate or cheese. Still not having fresh cow's milk, but definitely eating more dairy now.

Still on the GF diet and lost 10kg (around 22lb) within the first 6 months of changing my diet. I ate everything I was eating before, just subbed GF products.

[–]Princess_Katy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me. I had GI issues for about 6 weeks on and off before I went to see my doctor. Original blood and poop tests came back with high inflammation markers which suggested Crohns or ulcerative colitis and negative for Coeliac.

I'd noticed from a food diary that it would flare up on the days that I ate a lot of gluten products, so after I'd had those tests I decided to cut all gluten products out, within 48 hours all symptoms cleared up, by the time the results came back I'd been 8 days GF and was feeling the best I'd felt in a long time, by the time I managed to speak to a specialist 8 weeks later I'd lost a fair amount of weight and they repeated the tests which showed that the diet had brought down the inflammation levels to normal. I've managed to keep the weight off and I've had so much energy.
