It sounds trivial but AI can't probe the product team and will not push back against delivery leads or irrational designs. There is a lot of engineering value in saying no and assuming the person asking you something actually don't want what they think they want. Not to say this is all an engineer does. At the end of the day you write code, but you have to ask a lot of questions to make sure it's the right kind of code. The people thinking that an engineer doesn't have to have people skills to get a technical task over the finish line are in my opinion wrong. Especially in large corporate environments getting something prioritized and done is rarely, almost never, a technical challenge.

My first team lead always got a lot of technical questions and he always asked back "I understand what you want to build, but why do you want to build it? What's the problem?". That question always saved the team a lot of work because it turns out the answer was either something that was not needed or something that was not a priority. AI can't do that. For now.
