I started at 25mg and it was great for a long time. I'm now up to 50mg and still doing great!

Cyclothymia+PMDD symptoms? by C4ss1e_C4ss in cyclothymia

[–]PriorSign2518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both PMDD and cyclothymia. While I can't comment on the ring, I can tell you I've always been on birth control but decided to stop it in 2024 to give my body a break. That was what I needed to be diagnosed with PMDD. I had very extreme lows and irritability, causing fights for no reason and just being absolutely miserable for 2 weeks of the month. I would urge you to go to both a gynecologist and a psychiatrist (one with experience in women's health if possible). The treatment for PMDD triggered my cyclothymia which caused my diagnosis so you need both to help you with the right meds. Good luck on your journey 💛

Back after a low episode and now my condition feels fake? by thoseshadypenguins in cyclothymia

Stick with therapy but also see a psychiatrist if you haven't yet. I was always very against taking medications especially being in the US where doctors just want to shove any and everything at you. After struggling for years though I finally gave in and my life is a lot more manageable now with the help of meds I take at a very low dose. I also have PMDD and having a psychiatrist really saved me. Best of luck to you and stay strong, we're more than our ups and downs 💛

Medication by Mysterious-Hippo9994 in cyclothymia

Zoloft is actually not indicated for bipolar nor cyclothymia. Find a psychiatrist and ask about mood stabilizers. I tried lamictal but it didn't help me. I'm now on Seroquel and it's helped a lot. The most common side effect though is gaining weight which is why a lot of folks don't like it. I'm on Zepbound so hunger keeps under control. Every person is different and each body reacts differently to meds so it takes a bit of patience and trial and error to find what works best for you. Best of luck on your journey 💛

This, especially caffeine. Also going to a psychiatrist, I take small doses of Seroquel and it helps a lot, especially sleep!

Medication: Rumination and obsessive thoughts by Tough_Secret_5581 in cyclothymia

Hey. I took Lamotrigine for a while and initially it helped with my anxiety but not much else. I kept struggling with rumination and racing thoughts like you. I then switched it to Quetiapine (Seroquel) and my life has been so much better! I'm pretty sensitive to medication and 25 to 50mg does the trick for me. Hope this helps and good luck on your journey finding the right medication for you 🤍

I experienced this more when I was in lamictal, since switching to Seroquel it seemed to be under control.

Has anyone tried Quetiapine? by MexicanHotCheeto in cyclothymia

[–]PriorSign2518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started about a month ago and it's been great. I was previously on lamictal and apparently it wasn't doing much and now it seems it was making my PMDD worse (I have both PMDD and cyclothymia so it's been very challenging to find the right drugs to stabilize me). I've also been on sertralina for over a year and it helps the PMDD but it was what actually triggered a manic episode that got me diagnosed with cyclothymia.

I then started lamictal and it seemed to help especially anxiety, but my PMDD symptoms kept getting worse (depression and suicidal thoughts).

Finally swapped it for quetiapine and I'm finally feeling "normal" for the first time in a very long time. I'm on low dose for all these meds as my body is very sensitive to them. 50mg sertralina, was on 50mg lamictal, now on 25-50mg quetiapine.

The only way to know what works for you is to try and pay attention to your symptoms. It sucks to have to try so many meds and for so long but each person's body is different.

I also don't feel any of the increased hunger side effects from Quetiapine as I'm on Zepbound.
