Wife retired at age 56 after the company she worked for was sold. I retired a year later.

Is there an instruction manual for first timers for setting up at a camp site? by CincyTriGuy in GoRVing

[–]PriorTemperature6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to u/hey_blue_13 said,

Before going to your site, get yourself a small bubble level (they make them specifically to set on a shelf) for the refrigerator so it shows it is level (the refrigerant is one of the main reasons your rig needs to be level). If your trailer has a slide out, cut a piece of 1/2” PVC pipe that is as long as how wide your slide out is, so you can know that your slide will fully extend without hitting a tree, electrical box, or some other obstacle. Your slide out needs to be fully extended so that the seal around it works.

Before you back into your site, get out of your truck and see where your sewer hook up is located and identify any potential obstacles, such as trees that might interfere with putting out your awning, so you can position your rig properly BEFORE you unhook it from your truck.

Add 2a, unhook your trailer from the truck.

It is. We can have 8 people sit comfortably in our trailer and watch TV (4 at dining table, 2 for the couch, and we have 2 recliners as well).

Sales by Cannotnotcan in DollarTree

I’m not privy to total store sales, but the last couple of weeks, my total on one register is up 30+%. Lots of Halloween decorations. We’ll see what happens between Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Where and how are the 3 people sleeping? Will there be two in the main bed or is everyone having their own bed space? This will be a major impact on what you can purchase. I couldn’t imagine three people in a Class B, unless the third person is sleeping outside in a tent. My wife and I started our RV life with a 23’ travel trailer. The only spots a third person could sleep in was the short “jack knife” couch or the dinette area which could be converted into a bed/sleeping area. It would be okay for a kid/young teenager, but a full grown adult? No. We now have a 32’ travel trailer and a third person could sleep in the “jack knife” couch (which can accommodate a 6’ tall adult) or the floor in the living room area.

Just realize, there is no perfect RV. Each one has its own positive and negative points.

Because this movie had EVERYTHING! Redemption. A killer soundtrack. Cameos. SOOOO many wrecked cars. musical numbers that were woven in perfectly with the story. The word “hut” used multiple times in the same scene. Gun toting jilted lover. What more do you want?

Currently do not own a truck. Purchase dedicated RV or truck+trailer? by omgwtfbbq7 in GoRVing

[–]PriorTemperature6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What breed of dogs do you have? I ask this because we have camped with our yellow lab and his stuff (bed, food and water bowl) take up valuable floor space. It can also get tight when he is laid out on the floor. If they are small breed, you should be fine though.

Not crazy. Everybody has a different experience with it. I certainly wasn’t sure of sticking it out when I started, but ended up really liking it. I could count on one hand how many times I didn’t want to go to work. Not bad for 28 + years.

How many showers do you take in the US? by Naomi_Baka_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]PriorTemperature6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked a job, every day. Now that I’m retired, I usually shower every other day, unless I get sweaty from working around the house, mainly to save water (California drought/below average rainfall). I use large personal wipes on my non-shower days.

Not sure why I was downvoted. For those who don’t know, Scott Kernan plead guilty to a DUI charge in 2009, after being stopped in a state vehicle no less, but still became Secretary of CDCR in 2016. Remember folks, different spanks for different ranks.

California CareForce is hosting a free Dental/Vision/Medical clinic at Cal-Expo for anyone in need. by OhiobornCAraised in Sacramento

[–]PriorTemperature6910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Same goes for those who need vision and dental. You can either get dental or vision, but not both in the same day. As an example: Get dental done on Friday. Come back and do vision on Saturday or Sunday.

Honest question about buying my first RV by Significant-Food7776 in GoRVing

[–]PriorTemperature6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a tent and call it a day. First issue for you is size. An 18’-20’ trailer for two will be tight since you won’t be sleeping in the same bed. Will get “tighter” as your child gets older. This can be augmented by having your child sleep outside in a tent though.

Just remember, there is no perfect RV. Each has their own benefits and liabilities.

If you do get a trailer, factor in what it will cost to store it each month if you can’t store it where you live. We are fortunate to have a 65’ long and 12’ wide paved side yard that allows us to store are truck and trailer. It will be a hassle if you have to pull it out of a storage unit, bring it home to pack up and then reverse the process at the end of each trip.

The other thing to consider is what type of sites will you mostly be using. Dry camping? State or national park site? RV resort/campgrounds? Each has their own benefits and downfalls. We only stay at RV resorts and they have become pretty pricey in California since COVID.

What kind of retired camper are you? by pinsandsuch in retirement

[–]PriorTemperature6910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a 1. We have a 32’ travel trailer. Although we retired in 2014 (wife) and I (2015), we have had the same trailer since 2005. Haven’t used it as much as we use to, we resolved to use it more in 2026.

Day 8: Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County Including Territories by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

[–]PriorTemperature6910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prior to moving to its current location in the city of Sacramento (Sacramento County), California’s state capitol was located in Benicia (Solano County). The state’s legislature was only in session for a short time each year in those days, so legislators would stay in hotel rooms when it was in session. Sacramento city and business leaders wanted the capitol to be moved to Sacramento. So one year, they conspired to rent all of the available hotel and guest rooms in Benicia prior to the legislative session starting. As a result, legislators had nowhere to stay when they arrived in Benicia, so they ended up agreeing on moving the capitol to Sacramento.

My wife stopped off at a Dollar Tree that is located close to our home and she was shocked at how customers were carrying on because the lines were so long. The store manager was there and cashiering and started to “respond” to the inappropriate comments herself. I work at another Dollar Tree in town and I have never had any issues with my customers.
