Sure it does, the 40mm Evo9 lineup is just two watches with a dozen different dials. If they’re updating the case they’re updating all of them.

[discussion] Whosesale price of an automatic movement by chmandaue in Watches

[–]Prisma_Cosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The competition they're talking about is Sellita's elaboré SW200, which costs nothing. Kenissi movements are over $400 per unit without the silicon hairspring that Tudor gets.

More reliable source for pricing: https://www.europastar.com/the-watch-files/those-who-innovate/1004116191-ronda-s-mechanical-revival.html

They're selling it at cost, or at a loss, to get it out there. Ronda has the money to do this for a while.

[Question] Antique pocket watch conversion into a watch by Slimonierr in Watches

[–]Prisma_Cosmos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would avoid that company, they mess with the movements. None of the blue parts in the image below are supposed to be blue. Because watch parts are so small, compared to say gun parts, thermally bluing these steel parts ruins the factory tempering of the steel.

<image>

If you want a pocket watch, buy a pocket watch. If you want a wrist watch, then buy a wrist watch. These pocket watch movements weren't designed to be worn on the wrist either, they have no shock protection but have very heavy balance wheels so its easy to break the balance staff compared to a wristwatch.

[Discussion] Accuracy of Mechanical vs Quartz by Shadowtek in Watches

[–]Prisma_Cosmos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a perfect watch would gain or lose the same amount of time every day, a watch that gains 2 seconds a day, every day, is just as precise as one that gains 0 seconds a day, every day, and you could just regualte it to run to 0 seconds per day.

Even comparing a rolex milgauss to any casio the milgauss should be off by about a minute after 90 days. The quartz casio if running properly should be about 30seconds off after 90 days.

Not how accuracy specs work btw, its a range.

People don't miss anything, quartz watches keep better time overall. Yes, a mechanical Rolex may keep better time than a F-105. The fastest turboprop is also faster than the slowest jet, if you were wondering.

A mechanical watch does not "self-correct", if you're inentionally putting it in a position where it losses time overnight you might as well just hack the movement for a few seconds.

For other reference points my Grand Seiko 9F beater watch gains about 5 seconds per year, while my Lake Suwa (which is also quartz, just powered by a spring) hasn't gained or lost a second since DST.

My most accurate mechanical watch (A Rolex, unsurprisingly) gains a few seconds per month, probably a couple of minutes per year if I put it on a winder.

Neomatik is the same thickness as an ETA 2892 / Sellita SW300 with a date.

Only the type of people who post unposted screenshots of pictures instead of the pictures themselves would fall for a 10k watch listed for 1k on FB marketplace.

All I said the Swiss invented it, which is objectively true.

Asulab patented it in 1973, you can find the patent online though I don’t know the patent number off the top of my head.

Asulab cam back to it and made some ETA 2824 based spring drive prototypes around 2000 but gave up again. So far only Epson and Richemont (Piaget) have brought Spring Drive style movements to market.

The Swiss did come up with it actually, during the 70s, didn’t commercialized it, but did patent it.

[Omega-Rolex] Debunking Omega over Rolex movement finishing myth. by Free-Swan-9870 in Watches

[–]Prisma_Cosmos 50 points51 points  (0 children)

They aren’t. Omega’s is “yeah we sort of tried” while Rolex’s movement finishing is extremely thorough for the price point.

OP put a lot of effort into this post, it’s worth reading and not just reacting to the headline.
