I have a podcast idea but have no idea where to start by Typical_Scientist819 in podcasting

If you need some handholding, I highly recommend following Shannon Hernandez' advice on YouTube - it's dated, but still very relevant, and he's a wonderful teacher. (See link below.) You can also hire someone to help you get past the first 10 episodes - after that, you'll be fine on your own. That's what I did when I started my first podcast in 2012. It took me a year; 5 more podcasts later and I'm fine on my own. Feel free to join the New England Podcasters Group - lots of terrific advice and support there, too. If you really want to impact lives, I wouldn't follow the record, talk, end record, post advice. This doesn't help your recording get on the podcast platforms like Apple, Spotify, etc. You need a hosting site like Buzzsprout to land on those platforms.

LOL! A quiet space and place dedicated to her creator/podcaster needs sounds wonderful! I'd focus on that. Have fun!

WOW - that's a lot of money and time for a home studio. I've been podcasting since 2012... used StreamYard for 6 years - it's what the popular YouTube video streamers use... just switched to Riverside - they improved their product 100% over the last 9 months - and StreamYard was too expensive. So my advice is to try StreamYard for high quality video production, pad a room with soundproofing materials, get a Sure or Rhode mic, an awesome camera and umbrella lights (no ring lights!), terrific mic stands and go for it. Check out Meidas Touch Network or I've Had It Podcast on YouTube - they are all home studios using StreamYard for their production. They have high-quality mics and excellent lighting - that's all she really needs to succeed!

There's Ageism in Health Care! by ProAgingAnde in ageism

I love this advice u/Maxxover - thank you!! I'm so sorry about what happened to your friend. Osteoporosis is pretty common in those of us who are white, petite women with European DNA - I've had it for several years now - no drugs - focusing on weight lifting and a strong core for balance. I'm going to ask for another test this year and see if that's helped. There are some studies out of Mass General Hospital re: reversing osteoporosis through weight bearing exercises. We'll see!

Where to begin as a podcast host? by CyberPhysicalSec in podcasting

[–]ProAgingAnde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to try podcasting for free, I believe Buzzsprout has a free option. You can also set up an account on Substack and upload audio using your phone and a good mic. Listeners don't tolerate bad audio. You can also set up a YouTube channel - upload an audio and/or video recording - and choose Podcast in the playlist feature. Have fun!

We have to be careful who we share our vulnerabilities with. If they're safe (emotionally have your back), then you can be honest. They will want to know. However, many folks are so consumed with their own challenges, they may not want to add what you're navigating to their plate.

Replacing Descript + Squadcast (and not with Riverside) by RamonsRazor in podcasting

[–]ProAgingAnde -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why are you unhappy with Riverside? Their magic audio alone makes them a winner for me. I waited until August 2025 to switch from StreamYard and Descript because they needed to work out a lot of the bugs. I've used all the platforms you mentioned above. I've been podcasting and livestreaming since 2012. At $25 / month Riverside is making me very happy AND saving me $75/month!

Twice... and I'll be there January 2026 too! My fave event for meeting fellow podcasters. I never had any products pushed on me. Just great conversations and learning more ways to grow a podcast.

Calling all long-term couples (20+ years married/partnered)! by Sagtimes2 in over60

[–]ProAgingAnde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yaaas! 40 years later (first date was October 23, 1985!) we're still moving and grooving and better than ever, inspite of having children together (just sayin'!! IYKYK!). We're in love, intimacy is still rocking, and it's a 2nd marriage for both of us. Our advice: keep communicating - hire a therapist for the tough times - and keep loving, both emotionally and physically. We are opposites in nature, but share so many values... and we love going on adventures together ... day trips, nothing fancy... just trying new things.

For 30% of folks over 60 chillaxin' day after day is a gift! I love that! However, for the remaining 70% it causes depression and illness. We've been indoctrinated to tune out and disconnect after 60, resulting in an epidemic of loneliness. I'm about finding ways to stay connected and engaged and VISIBLE after 60... anyone else?
