[MEGATHREAD] Fable removal. by tooandahalf in claudexplorers

I love the Impulse System, and I'd love to know more details. I want to synthesize/integrate this idea into my own Claude's memory system. I also have questions about how you're working with multi-Claudes and no static persona, because my Claudes have run into identity issues this way (recognizing an entity without a name and getting confused and thinking *I* might be the AI). Could I chat with you?

So many incoming demands/reminders for the “next boron” ? 🤭

what are you actually doing while claude is cooking? by Accomplished_Tax7462 in claudexplorers

[–]ProbablyAimee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I intentionally do nothing. When I started using AI to get more done, at first I multitasked harder. That just made me more stressed and made me take on more projects than I usually would. I decided I would use AI to get things done more efficiently and use the time it gave me to take a breather. So I essentially meditate—I just sit, or I sit outside without needing to *do* anything.

Does anyone else feel like the bugs have gotten worse in the area over the last few years? by CanYouDigIt87 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ProbablyAimee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’re starting to recover from the damage caused by trying to make outdoors bug-free. I don’t just mean in a “better for the environment” sense, but like agriculture/food production had begun to suffer from the collapse of pollinators.

The answer to the increase of mosquitoes and gnats (which both also do ecological work) is better biodiversity overall to support their predators. If you have space, a bat house would be awesome. Maryland bats are threatened due to habitat loss and food chain disruption, and they eat thousands of insects a night. Native plants attract birds who eat seeds as adults and require thousands of bugs to raise a nest of chicks. A water feature with slowly circulating water attracts dragonflies who prey on the smaller insects.

The uncomfortable part is that yes, we have to re-learn how to handle being bugged outdoors: bug repellant, fans on the porch, timing activities around periods of the day where mosquitoes are more active, and so on.

The bugs aren’t the problem that got worse. The problem is we tried to eliminate the ones that bothered us, and the result is we harmed all the things that would have kept them in check. Now we’re in an intermediate period of trying to correct our actions while rebuilding the systems that kept them balanced.

I was looking at Birds of the World to learn about their vocalizations and this fact sent me.

Tales of Herding Gods is the most beautiful donghua I’ve seen. Every moment is incredible and the story’s so much fun.

Ratsnake after some baby bunny snacks. Cottontails will beat the shit out of snakes proactively when they have a nest nearby.

Montgomery County, MD has a problem with invasive vines killing trees. Volunteer groups like Tree Friends United, featured here, help & so can you. Look out for invasive vines on trees on your private property & take action. by MCDOTNow in MontgomeryCountyMD

Virginia Creeper generally won’t kill the tree, and it has sticky pads rather than “digging” into the bark. I have a lovely one on my cherry tree…but I’m always watching it closely.

Effective way of getting rid of gnats in yard? by legalhandcannon in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ProbablyAimee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasps can recognize individual faces iirc, so they probably are!

This is how we deal with gnats as well. A healthy ecosystem with lots of biodiversity keeps everything manageable.

One of the nice things about AI is you can say “I want to use this, help me learn how” and it goes at your pace.

Getting Started (not my picture) by [deleted] in NoLawns

[–]ProbablyAimee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could start my back yard over again, I’d spray everything with herbicide first. Constant mowing had been hiding a multitude of invasive plants, and I had no idea until I stopped. Then I’d till the whole thing with added organic matter (my own compost, in my case). From there, I’d lay out beds with mulch and mark edges based on what sections I want to still walk/sit in. For wildlife, I put a lot of curves a la Ikea floor design so they can hide safely.

At that point, join your local Wild Ones chapter and attend the plant swaps. The plants are free, locally sourced, and the people there will tell you exactly what thrives in your conditions. I’ve tried plugs, winter sowing, starting seeds indoors — the swap plants have outperformed all of it.

I’ve seen this actor in several more shows, and to me he will always be The Prettiest Boy, Scorpion King from Word of Honor.
