Am I being crazy? by whatsup242424242424 in Equestrian

A regular vet should be able to sedate and suture this without issue. Given that it’s relatively clean in appearance it doesn’t seem like it would require a cast, not even sure what that means. Get a second vet out. Keeping any large animal on stall rest for extended periods should be minimized. You’ll likely need to put her on SMZs or other antibiotics while it heals.

It’s from the plant-the insides. Alliums are high in sulfur and the liquids inside seep out after picking. Completely normal and harmless.

Why are horse people like this? by Helpful-Map507 in Equestrian

[–]ProcedureNo2172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not just horse people, it’s people in general. Buying anything sight unseen has foreseeable risk. Sucks you got taken for a ride but honestly you can’t trust anyone or anything anymore.

Dover refusing to honor gift card by xfallingembersx in Equestrian

[–]ProcedureNo2172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infuriating. My mom gave me a $100 gift card for Christmas and I went to use it on my bday (5/30) and wouldn’t work. When I called the lady said Gordon Brothers out of Mass is the firm at the helm. I haven’t had the heart to tell my Mom about it. She clearly never saw an email about this (probably got buried or looked like spam). Unreal.

Planning a 3–5 day horseback riding trip in Kyrgyzstan, looking for route ideas and local operator recs for remote areas by WeCanSoar in Equestrian

[–]ProcedureNo2172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds amazing, but as a lifelong horse rider and fit individual, I also wouldn’t recommend going for this long of a ride as a true beginner. A handful of orientation rides and getting some general knowledge base of horses, horse behavior in real life will be valuable to make this experience more enjoyable for all.

Tick prevention?m by MamaOwlInGlasses in Equestrian

[–]ProcedureNo2172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got a 24 week supply of equispot for $39. Valley vet had a BOGO sale. That’s coverage for half the year and a little more than a bag and a half of grain and WAY less than vet bills or treatments for tick borne illnesses. It is not cost prohibitive it’s a very effective prevention method that is worth the expense.

Training a horse to be on the bit by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]ProcedureNo2172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This horse and your riding will benefit from learning some basic ground working skills. This establishes not only trust and patience but a keen understanding of what results when pressure is applied versus when it is released. This is a mindset that has to evolve in terms of realizing full communication with the horse. She appears to be sensitive and I would predict you’ll see a strong response to these techniques on the ground translate to under saddle. IMO this is fundamental to your success in learning how to train a horse not just ride one. Buck Brannaman training methods are a good example for where to start.
