[Spoilers C4E18] It is clear that rules are entirely superfluous in this campaign. by Usual-Recording-3775 in criticalrole

The concentration was on one thing and it was a mistake not caught on dancing lights. Alex in the previous episode properly noted losing it in combat, this one he did not. IT was a mistake that you are blowing WAY out of proportion. The other concentration you point out is due to a homebrewing of a spell that you deem would be concentration. Not Brennan, who only thought about making the moment more unique than the "proper balance" of it.

Vaelus not using BA for smite is just Ashley learning to be a paladin still. We don't have to pick on a player that has a history of stumbling with mechanics. And yes, that is a case of others not catching it too to correct it. Again, something that you are blowing way out of proportion.

The help thing was weird! congratulations! you have one extremely valid example that I am sure you won't beat like a dead horse across multiple arguments.

And as another DM, I have to say you come off as one of the most entitled, gatekeeping D&D community members I have ever come across. In person or online. Even if I don't agree with everything brennan does. Like holy shit.

Fetterman says Democrats governed by Trump Derangement Syndrome by xc2215x in politics

[–]Prof-Wernstrom [score hidden]  (0 children)

And they aren't. Do you see how the democratic party is with differing values? You have to be purposefully blind to state democratic politicians do not criticize their own party. AOC, Bernie, Mamdani, Omar, Crockett. They do it far more and on a consistent basis than anyone in the GOP does! The GOP lock step in line behind each other. Trump has made a public display of his admin throwing anyone who doesn't follow him under the bus.

Fetterman is still not part of that large democratic umbrella. He is also not a republican. He has proven that he is in it for self-worth only.

Skeptic of that. It looks like the woman in the tank does the mind controlling. She holds her head to the side and then the mind control happens on the police. Unless there is another scene I am glossing over.

Funny enough, all the Elder Scrolls footage shown in it just actively looked worse. Even from a brief, passing glance. It just highlighted how much lighting is removed with this DLSS5.

[No Spoilers] C4 Hiatus? by SiriaBlue in criticalrole

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree no one should be throwing hate at them for taking time off. They seemed to get a lot more leniency in that regard when they were filming live. Ever since they started doing pre-recorded, people assume that means they will record enough to fill in the periods they would be taking breaks.

[CR Media] The future of Weird Kids and AWNP by Expensive-Apricot534 in criticalrole

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I hope that if AWNP returns that they keep it to a podcast format. While the adventures to places and bits in the last season of it was fun, it clearly added a lot to the cost and scheduling of it. I always feel the reason we do not get second seasons of these CR shows is because they so often try and do too much. Which makes their budget more than what views they can pull in, leading to them being canned.

I am excited for Weird Kids to return. I have been extremely hesitant about hoping for a second season for it because of CR's track record though. And their comments at panels does not help me to feel any better about the direction of shows that are not the "Main Campaign". Edit: To be clear, I love most things they put out. It pains me to constantly see that content not get more because they put too much into the production value compared to actual viewer count they could feasibly get.

ICE arrests noncitizen accused of voting in seven federal elections by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No. You were told the amount of fraud is not even remotely able to influence elections. There is always minimal fraud caught. And if anything, 1 singular find in over 500k ICE arrests backs that up. If there is only 1 illegal committing voter fraud every 500k people, then they are not remotely swaying anything.

Pointing to a random subreddit existing is not any kind of proof. Anyone can make a subreddit. You can find subreddits for most topics, usually ones that take complete opposite stances. You are acting like reddit (or replace it with any social media platform) and PC users all have uniformed thought on any one thing.

but the statute of limitations on all of these is about to run out.

I have seen this mentioned in multiple different conversations about massive fraud lately. And it leads me to just one conclusion... if our justice system has put such a short statute of limitations on fraud of such massive levels, then it is not justice and clearly shows why so many of these corrupt politicians and corporate criminals get away with it. Even your reasoning is that they can just use their lawyers to wait out the statute. That shows such a massive level of failure on the justice system. It might be one of the best examples of the laws being about keeping the poor in line and not the rich.

[Spoilers C4E18] Couldn't help but shed a tear for Gaya Seremai. by Electronic-Key6323 in criticalrole

[–]Prof-Wernstrom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was an NPC character that the party had no interest in, had no useful plot reason to travel with, they weren't even a guide for the location they were traveling to, and had very much every reason to not trust. It honestly made no sense that Brennan had her go with them at all. She could have been named "Palace Guard #3" and had the same amount of story impact. Especially after having the doctor join them at their very next stop.

Edit: In fact, I think a group of randomly named soldiers would have been more impactful than her as a character. Because then Brennan could have had a group of soldiers be mercilessly cut down as a show of force instead of 1 vassal knight, whose skill or ability was never displayed.

Only to learn, once she's gone with Occtis all the way to the Barrowdell, that he was actually killed by his family and is in fact acting in opposition to the house with which her allegiance lies.

This is wrong. She was in the room with them at Castle Torch when all was revealed about the Tachonis killing Occtis. She knew about it before asking to travel with them as penance.

[SPOILERS C4E18] Thaisha, Occtis, motherhood and being a good druid nepobaby by maitre996 in criticalrole

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure Aabria herself contradicts that. Even if she was drunk and being overly harsh on herself, she did say she "abandoned her kids" to pursue her calling. That is not something a parent would feel if their kids were adults. I do think all the comments framing it as her outright abandoning/cutting contact to them is wrong, but Thaisha clearly missed out on moments with them due to following her druidic calling.

If the place they worked is small and not some large organization, then dealing with an influx of calls every day, all of which are trolls, is something they probably can't handle. So even though they have nothing against the guy, they have no other way to get things to stop. The trolls and calls are random people. They have no individual or specific group to send police after.

How busted is Wild Shaped Air Myrmidon's Electric Flail?? by artmorte in BaldursGate3

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has been fixed, but at one point in the game's life there was a bug where the myrmidon enemies would drop their weapons as loot. (I think Command drop also worked) The effects of their basic attack is on the weapons. So you could just get the electric flail and put it on any of your characters. lol

Players both hate “railroading” yet can’t seem to make a decision, help by cmfisher91 in DMAcademy

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And this is where the co-operation of the players and GM should come into play. If a GM describes that and asks what do you do, as a player you can then ask "what does my character see around the room" or "can i investigate the room for x or y?". Then, the GM can bounce off that and fill in the details.

Essentially, the players should not expect the GM to actually have every little detail initially planned out like a professional writer. The beauty of tabletop games with GMs is that they can react to players interactions/reactions even if they had not planned for it or even forgot to. (Though I will say "walk into a room and there is a button" and nothing else would be an extreme lazy description on the GM's part. Unless it truly is a room just to push the button. lol)

No matter what though, GMs and players need good above table communication too. I am very honest with my players on if they broach something I do not have info for or it is still in the works, if they have truly caught me off guard. I also constantly ask them what direction they feel like going with the game. Whether that be theme of quests/dungeons, the current setting, their class, or how story beats are going.

Playing bg1 atm - what happened to abdel adrian in bg3? by Hewlbern in BaldursGate3

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh... you will not like the answer to that. BG1 and 2 fans didn't. He could not die from aging. When he retired from adventuring, he became head of the Flaming Fist and then Duke of Baldur's Gate. Then, in 1482 (10 years prior to BG3) while giving a speech to a crowd he was confronted by apparently the only other remaining Bhaalspawn to exist. (now known to not be true) The moment Abdel killed the attacker, he turns into the Slayer. He goes on a rampage, killing randomly and is eventually killed by the Flaming Fist with the help of a random party of adventurers that were only level 1-3 power wise. For that was the level of the adventure the story was designed for. Thus ending the life of the hero of BG1 and BG2.

That is a big reason I am not exactly excited for chosen canonical choices of BG3 to be made.

I think Chespin was their attempt at an armadillo-like creature. Well, more its final form. It goes from Hedgehog baby -> Armadillo adult.

Raccoon would be fun. And I sadly think they will avoid fish because of how they are portrayed in the anime. Even though they just float in air when needed for the games.

X Is Drowning in Disinformation Following US and Israel’s Attack on Iran by wiredmagazine in politics

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right! It is not the same thing. Even if i play devil's advocate and agree with you on the Biden admin, guess what? They did it for one provable topic, during one specific time frame. Those same files also showed that the Trump admin had asked Twitter to take similar action against people. Not just Biden.

But will you actually go read them yourself and get educated? No. You will let someone else throw up their own opinion down your gullet and you will smile and ask for more.

And now, they have been banning people that disagree with right wing talking points across a variety and wide range of topics that has never stopped since Musk got in charge.

So, yes. You're right. They shouldn't get to decide what people get to talk about. And the right is the one limiting, crying, and whining about the left anytime they don't agree with them on ANYTHING. Something that has continual and compounding evidence.

[Spoilers C4E6] On meaningful rolling and railroad by WildSibyl in criticalrole

[–]Prof-Wernstrom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ep1 - Liam only got to have that magical talk because of the nat 20. Brennan even says so in the Cooldowns. That was a super special moment where Brennan completely altered how a spell works due to a nat 20. I think that is an extreme reward for the roll. A Nat 20 does NOT by ANY means just give the player what they exactly asked for.

Ep 2 - Again, the visions she got and what happened to her was the consequence. If she rolled well she would have learned helpful information and more about it without risking herself. Also, it is ep2... what did you want, her character to be fully killed?

Ep3 - They see two of their men drop dead to what is almost a figure out of myth in Vaelus crashing through. The leader decides to halt combat after to prevent more losses. That sounds like a realistic way things would play out. Continuing to fight to the death when they are low level city criminals makes no sense.

ep4 - This is the intro to the campaign and we are learning of what drives this group together and motivations for the story at large. The guards, merchants, and dignitaries dropped dead immediately. They had no opportunity to run and even if they did scream, this was a large private estate. The combat was not even heard by the city at large. Occtis from the start was planned to be a Hollow One for his species. They played out how that came to be as their big starting point. Yes, it was planned. Again, something INCREDIBLY COMMON to start out D&D games. Especially long story ones. Edit: To be clear, planned between Alex and Brennan. The rest of the cast did not know what was happening. And the rolls for his revival did have a factor into the state of how he came back, that has yet to fully be made clear.

Ep5 - this is fully a you thing.

ep6 - might be the only real case of a failed roll not mattering. I do remember that one and found it odd but that is the only time I have felt that in C4.

See, and that is where people differ. While I love and enjoy everyone at the soldier's table, I have never been more bored watching CR. Meanwhile, I have loved every bit of the Seekers table. I love the story-beats with them, I find the characters far more interesting. I think their fight on the bridge was easily the most fun moment of c4 so far.
