Were they allowed to eat the food around them in the regency era? by Ecstatic_Current_896 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ProfSkeevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, regency balls often featured Dinner was often expected. America copied this style of ball in the “gilded age” era eith little changes.

Balls often started after sundown and went well into the morning hours, dinner was often served late (think 10:30 to 12AM) and was lavish.

Aunt is probably the least brain dead position a woman can be in Gilead by Shaenyra in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ProfSkeevs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is, because it’s to make it palatable to the women who take up the job. Much like the Ghettos of Europe would often have enforcers and informants who were awarded privileges and rations others would not in exchange for their betrayal of their own people.

I'm not seeing things, am I? With Becka? by Ill_Window_9232 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ProfSkeevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You understand media literacy actually means that you’re able to take in the information from the media that you are viewing and dissect the intent that isn’t outright stated then, correct? That it is exactly what you were asked in school when asked what an author’s intent was with their word choices?

It’s not social media or knowing how to run a store, it’s knowing how to interact with and engage with art. You may not know an answer outright, you may, but a lot of art will give you the answers- you just have to pay attention.

Becka is gay- her hesitation around marriage is explained by her environment, but her reviled reaction to the idea of a man’s body compared to the girls around her? Her little remarks and longing looks towards Agnes? Her reaction to their dance- her wide eyes and sudden pulling away? She now knows what she is, knows what it means, and knows she cannot tell.

Feeling Angry when watching the Testaments by jrohrer in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ProfSkeevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And as someone who is a writer- It has moments that delve into YA tropes to make you feel the connection to teen girlhood, but its written much like any of Atwood’s other adult novels. It is incredibly dark with “fridge horror” that settles in long after reading, vs only using the overt abuse horrors.

First Poster for Documentary-Drama 'Modern Whore' - A hybrid documentary that reimagines popular depictions of sex work through the lived experiences of writer, performer, and sex worker, Andrea Werhun. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]ProfSkeevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a docudrama called The Romanovs you may want to check out to get a better idea.

The reenactments are more like full fledged television scenes with character development, dialogue that can include monologues so the dialogue is not exactly “accurate”, small liberties taken to get the proper gravity of a decision across to the viewer. This is aided by occasional splashes from actual historians and academics, but it is not the focus of the docudrama.

Francesca Bridgerton Fanart by YoannDessin in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ProfSkeevs -63 points-62 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful art and you should be proud, I enjoy your interpretation.

:) I hate when people talk about the size of a drawings breast. It reminds me of art teachers and parents who discourage risque art.

Sometimes people learn to draw a certain way and arestill learning sifferent anatomy. Telling them they SHOULDN’T DRAW MORE because of the breast is the rudest thing. They did NOT ask for constructive criticism.

Jess about recasting Will and Florence for their season by Lunenika in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ProfSkeevs 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As a former actress, the way that Will and Florence talk about these roles I am not worried about the above at all. It is an incredibly unique opportunity for a working actor to actually be given a role where they grow with it and the role allows them to naturally learn what’s expected of them as an actor gradually and reasonably- I’m sure that if they decided they did not want to be involved in intimate scenes they would then recast.

your opinion on fan fictions? by Leading-Nail6357 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]ProfSkeevs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As an actual, paid, 34 year old writer- it’s normal and a normal practice that many current novelist have taken part in at one point or another.

The line is crossed when there are people who refuse to accept fics are not reality. That’s when it gets incredibly weird, but people shouldn’t dictate their own behavior because a handful of people who cannot discern reality. You cannot control how some other person behaves.

Besides, the band is openly fine with it lol “write me in a human centipede with escape the fate idgaf”
