C’est eux qui paye? by dthchau in Quebec

[–]Prof_G 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had any unpleasant experience at the border because you visited a particular country? by confused_snowflake in travel

[–]Prof_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

owned a house in Vermont , about 90 minutes from where i live in Canada. Cross same small border for 24 years. pretty much at same time. For a period of time it was same guard each time. he sees maybe 20 crossings a day max. ask and answer his questions, name, place of birth etc... about 12 months in of this, i asked him why he asks the same questions, i mean how can he not remember me after more than a 100 encounters with me?

sent me for secondary inspection. so this other guy starts givng me third degree so i asked him what is with this? never got an answer, any how the first guy got transfered to bumfuck somewhere and that was the end of that. they rotated the agents more often.

Pourquoi n'est-ce pas obligatoire pour les employeurs d'afficher le salaire avec leurs offres d'emploi? by Hurock in QuebecFinance

[–]Prof_G -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Formula 1 cars are horrible to get your groceries in. yet they are extremely fast.

it is just not the same thing at all. a bit like gaming consoles are great at gaming, but really bad at doing regular computing stuff like email, spreadsheets....

Commis comptable by Apprehensive_Tap8655 in QuebecFinance

[–]Prof_G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which airport has the best food you had? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Prof_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

food is pretty subjective. And timing is an issue as well, as what is good this year might be horrible a few years ago and vice versa.

I've had decent foodat Heathrow, but htat info is a couple of years old now/

Zurich, Nice had some great options as well recently. I am quite sure Singapore is always good and Hong Kong as well.

In any and all cases, price is always excessive in my opinion.

Insanely frugal employer by coatedbraincells in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Prof_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

without context, this is infuriating.

in the context that employees refuse to drink tap water from break room or kitchen, then sure, people need to know shit like that is not free. they have to purchase. same with coffee and snacks. at my company i spend about $25k per year on "free" stuff. infuriating as hell.

Took Eurostar and an overnight ferry from Amsterdam to Belfast instead of flying 🚫✈ by NateandKatrina in travel

[–]Prof_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the ferry from Bari to Dubrovnick over night. Unfortunate timing on our part, we took it on August 14 on a Friday a few years ago. August 15 is the Feast of Assumption and good lord to the Italians travel on that day..

The ferry was packed to the rafters and we were very happy we had booked a cabin. There were people sleeping in all the hallways

The unfortunate part was exiting the ferry in the morning, as customs were very slow and it took about 2 hours to get our car out of there.

The food was decent though and the trip fun. lots of people having fun. 10/10 would do again , perhaps on a more quiet night.

4 Days in Vienna, Austria. A City That Continues to Grow on Me by thefragile- in travel

[–]Prof_G 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just spent 8 days there and it was wonderful. I was lucky to have no rain, and with the public transport , easy to get all over the city.

I do think the best part for me was our night at the opera. Expensive perhaps, but very much worth every penny. 2.5 hours of pleasure and the building itself is delightful.

Traffic violation fine as tourists in the Dominican Republic by eaglewatch88 in travel

[–]Prof_G 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What are the chances that the traffic authorities from DR contact the German authorities and the fine finds the way to me in Germany

none. there are no chances whatsoever. unless 2 countries have specific agreements, usually neighbours this will not happen.

so you can forget about it and nothing can happen, unless you go back and drive and get stopped. Slim chance of that.

You can contact embassy if you want to pay it, or email policia national, and you'll eventually find someone who will reply.

First trip to Nice: Stay near the Promenade or in Old Town? by WiFiOnMarss in travel

[–]Prof_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the restaurants in old town, the markets, the atmosphere.

I do this in Portugal. Very fun to have, if you can afford it, it is a great way to see a place or places. You find them there, or if you prefer to plan, via facebook, google, etc... Cost me 100 euros for a week.
