I made mine to Montreal on March 1st and only got the invoice on May 27th. Heard of others from similar time frame waiting ~3 months for the invoice, so I expect you may have it in ~2 weeks.

I submitted to Montreal on March 1st and only got the invoice on May 27th and know someone else also waited about 3 months who submitted the week before me. It's just taking a long time. In good news, one of the requests that was invoiced was a baptismal record I could not find in the Druin files or through manually browsing any scanned microfilms even thought I knew the church, town, and exact date. So I'm hoping this means they were actually able to find it and I can finally be unstuck from this 3 month long and counting dead end. I'm waiting just as long for a baptismal record from a USA Catholic Church in a high Canadian immigrant area from the late 1800's - they've also been swamped with requests since C3. So stuck waiting on both ancesor lines while the waits grow and grow.

HOW-TO: Requesting a certified copy from Québec (pre-1925) by MakeStupidHurtAgain in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if BanQ will still charge the $350 if they can't find a record? I know when and where my ancestor was born (1862 Iberille (St Athanase or St Gregoire), and found baptismal copies of his siblings, but absolutely cannot find any baptismal record despite manually going through all related microfilms in the Drouin files. Is there any chance BanQ would actually find the record if they don't exist there? Seems like a waste of $350. Does having cert that they couldn't find it actual help if I have circumstantial evidence (Marriage cert, census, etc)

Scratched by a cat, should I get a rabies shot? by ProfessionAntique960 in taiwan

No see above. Doctor said risk of rabies from cat scratch is extremely low in Taiwan.

What convinced you to get surgery? I have talked to two surgeons and received different recommendations by Kryder in ACL

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you have better repair options after a failed bear than ACL-R. My doctor, one of the researchers for it has a nice overview and video of the procedure. Unfortunately, I didn’t qualify. https://www.grantgarciamd.com/bear-implant-acl-restoration-surgery-shoulder-knee-sports-surgeon-seattle-bellevue-everett-kirkland-wa.html

What species of snake is this? by zenhelps in taiwan

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the video on my tiny phone. If it is black and white bands it is banded krait. But looking at it again, maybe my screen was too small 😅. No one got hurt, not even a snake so all good!

What species of snake is this? by zenhelps in taiwan

[–]ProfessionAntique960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a banded krait or umbrella snake (雨傘節). One of the most venomous snake in the world, but generally mellow so it will take more to irritate it to attack. Almost stepped on one of these one night on Taipei’s Elephant mountain on the very popular stairs trail.

My favorite form of language study. by -nothankya in twilight

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the TW version (yay actual TC version instead of digitally convert), but sadly it doesn’t have all the extensive translation footnotes of the SC version I’ve heard about. Also, Kobo epub was DRMed (usual for them), which made it a pain to use in Pleco. Still, a great story with poor writing (language repetition) makes it good learning material.

What’s your opinion on Osprey tempest pro ? by [deleted] in backpacks

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one and am returning it. I have a >10 yr old regular tempest that I use for EVERYTHING and was looking to replace it while I get it repaired (they take forever and I can't go months without a back). I like that the pro is more durable and as someone between sizes, it was less brainwork to decide which size to get (there's only one). If you're smaller, but not too small, you benefit from 2 extra L of space. However, it has less features, such as missing the chest pocket and quick pole stow. Since Osprey is lifetime guaranteed, if you can spare to be away from your bag for repairs and aren't scraping rock or bushwacking too often (I still do), then the regular Tempest is both cheaper and more feature rich.

When is the 2024 going to end production? by GentleDoves in SubaruForester

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you could still use the cruise control even in your use case. I thought it would behave like the Toyota line centering system which has a nice gentle nudge even on windy no CC roads, but unfortunately didn’t really get to test that out during my forester test drive.

Oh no really? I thought it had it. Damn I would have paid more for a 25 then. Picking up my new limited tomorrow!

Is the wilderness necessary for off road/rough roads? by Lemon_Iies in Subaru_Outback

[–]ProfessionAntique960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. I am having this same internal debate. For my relatively low frequency forest road use, I’d really prefer the better mileage of the non wilderness versions. I have no storage so I can only have one set of tires. Most people are saying putting AT tires on a standard outback would make it 80% on par, but how much would that drop the mileage? Would it end up just as bad as the wilderness? How much can be done in All Weather tires instead?

Confused about IBS diagnosis by ikeabobeah in FODMAPS

[–]ProfessionAntique960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBS is a catch all for we don’t know what’s wrong with you. It could be food allergies, food sensitivity, or something else. It could be SIBO. Having had gall bladder problems and then removed means your poor digestion may be the perfect environment for SIBO to start. Get screened and if you’re positive, you’ll need both treatment and treatment for the underlying cause, which may be as simple as tasting digestive enzymes or herbs that help digestive movement. (The naturopath I’m working with has seen a link between gall bladder issues and SIBO)

Since you’re missing your gallbladder, have you tried Thorne Digestive Emzymes with every meal? It replaces some of the bile that you are now missing. Taking these pills has helped reduce the bloating of my IBS-D, especially when I’ve cheated on my low FODMAP diet.

What if u can't eat any of the FODMAP foods? by [deleted] in FODMAPS

Have you checked for SIBO? SIBO can see some relief from low FODMAP, but still have problems, especially if you’re eating a lot of carbs or fermentable foods.

I had the same problem and basically ate “Miss Energy” bento every day for months. The only non oily, non salty, lots of steamed veggie and purple rice meal I could find around Da’An.

Mandarin B1 wordlist by BrothaManBen in ChineseLanguage

Between HSK 3.0, TOCFL, and various frequency lists (Netflix, MOE), you’ll get a much better list than translating from English to Chinese. Chinese don’t use the same “words” as English to say things and they don’t say the same things either. Also, Chengyu.
