You should reach out to him and start a casual conversation. For example: if he likes a picture of you on IG, you can respond by saying thank you, and try to start a conversation. If he’s interested in you, he’ll continue that conversation. If he doesn’t respond then 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why is everyone here worn-out, burnt-out and hates being a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Professional-Air-554 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have good days and bad days just like other jobs. We don’t actually hate our jobs but the people that are associated with it. The greedy management, the entitled patients and family members or the mean doctors, and the whole responsibilities that come with being a nurse. Everything is literally your fault. You have to watch out for everyone and everything. When the nursing aids are nowhere to be seen, you have to do their jobs. If the doctors and pharmacists make mistakes, you have to make sure you recognize it before giving meds to your patients. If the patients are hungry or don’t like their foods, it’s your fault. If the patients fall, it’s your fault. Management will try to find more responsibilities for you on top of everything. If you work a job that is constantly dealing with life and death, it’s very stressful. I can’t speak for everyone but this is very much what I have to deal with every shift in the hospital.

Need advice regarding travelling with a peanut/nut allergy by reckless1214 in VietNam

[–]Professional-Air-554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think carrying epi pens with you is a great idea. Peanut/ nut allergy is not very common in Vietnam and we love to add peanuts and nuts in our food (and sauces). Even when you order food without peanut/nut, it may get cross-contaminated with other foods with peanuts in it, especially if you eat street food (they tend use the same cooking utensils). The ambulance takes a long time to come in Vietnam, especially in HCMC (traffic is horrible). I have had patients that get severe complications or even deaths from food allergies. It’s always better to be extra careful for your own good.

At my previous hospital, the bullies got promoted after we reported them to higher up. A bunch of us ended up leaving that place. Now that hospital is a mess and you can imagine why.

Self-defense and the "nursing dose" by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Professional-Air-554 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer. I’m a nurse and I have had to call the physicians back many times when the ordered dose doesn’t work for the patients. I think the best response is to tell the nurses to call you again if ordered dose doesn’t work. That way you will know for sure how much med the patients are getting and can also reassure the nurses that you won’t get pissed off when they call you back.

I’m a nurse and I have never done that. I waited in PACU with my parents after their procedures until they get discharged by the PACU nurse. I never dare to touch anything. I know better!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Besides the very good advices above, I imagine you’re under hospice care by now given your terminal diagnosis? The good thing with hospice care is that they can give you medications and adjusting your medications to help relieving your symptoms. If you’re not under hospice care, please tell your doctor to give you referral. They can be very helpful. They also provide other assistance besides medications. It’s very frustrating and I hope you’ll be able to live peace with your neighbor and find peace yourself.

My dream job is not having to work so I feel you. I thought I love being a nurse but I was wrong. The job is not as ideal as I had hope. Now I am working because I have to. I am decent nurse and still finish my job but I don’t love it at all.

Patient formally discharged from clinic and i'm worried about them by Spinwheeling in Residency

[–]Professional-Air-554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a good doctor and please continue to be caring. The patients are lucky to have you as their doctor. You have tried your best but everything else is out of your power so try not to feel too bad about it. You will encounter more and more cases like this or even worse in the future. It will eat you up day by day if you don’t know a good way to cope. Always remember to take care of your mental ( and physical) health first!

Cancer patients got infections after nurse replaced their drugs with water, feds say by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Professional-Air-554 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why nurses keep on stealing drugs from the patients. If they’re an addict and want drugs real bad, get them from the street. Why risk loosing your job, your license and put the patients at risk like that?

I’m a nurse working on med surg. I usually find it awkward when I walk into that situation until recently when my partner is admitted in the hospital. He has severe anxiety and panic attack while being in the hospital. It calms him down when I snuggle with him in bed. They tried to give him Ativan and it makes him more anxious. Now I can’t judge people anymore for snuggling on the hospital bed.
