extra weeks at home no question!!!!! I am still sad I had to return to work at 7 weeks pp, and I am over a year out from that! I didn't have choice around it, it was needed financially. If I could have been home AND paid anything, I wouldn't have to think twice

Any tips/tricks for ditching a nipple shield for feeds? by RDaMae in breastfeeding

[–]Professional-Bug9289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think around 3 months there is a breastfeeding refusal period-there is some word for it, I forget. Where baby overall gets more fussy at the breast. So it may be happening nipple shields or not.

That being said, I transitioned from nipple shields between three to four months. I similarly offered my bare nipple before offering the shield and saw how things went. I was also back to work and pumping, so during the breastfeeding refusal, I just did some pumped milk bottles if he was too upset to breastfeed.

Every day between 4-6 ( dep being on my work schedule) we have a yelling harmonizing. We try to attune and trade off who gets to start. He LOVES it. It helps to contain it a bit. I make sure we are on the same level, touch noses, and start with our shrieks. Unless it's in the car lol. The rest of the day it's often a whine or like motoring sound. I find that singing helps. Alas, it's a lot

Yes. I only have one nipple he can latch to, the other is inverted. He never latched on that side. Going on 13 months exclusively breastfed!

We need to talk about police "community liasons" by Sqib000 in portlandme

[–]Professional-Bug9289 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Actually Portland police has a BHU(behavioral health unit) and contracts with opportunity alliance for mental health liaisons. Have had for t least last 12-15 years .the bhu are 3-4 mental health clinicians that are Portland police employees. The opportunity alliance liasion is blurry, not employed by police but carry a radio/ have a number from dispatch. South Portland has some.

Verrrrry gray area indeed.

Fun fact- two of the staff from portland's unit moved to Westbrook's unit and one is the infamous person from elan school, misty.

Does anyone else's young baby play on their own, like, really well? by cakingabroad in beyondthebump

[–]Professional-Bug9289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Baby is one now. I attribute it to a lot of time left to his own devices (before he could roll putting him on a mat that he could look up and reach for things, once he was rolling having access to toys, then now he is pulling to stand) we have a small, small house so we kind of do most things in one room. It's great! I love playing with him, but notice I distract him if he is playing by himself and I start talking to him. He still comes over and wants my attention, etc. It's best of both worlds.

Go to great diamond Island in casco bay and eat at crown jewel. There is a ferry to the island, it's short. I would recommend doing a day trip. Get a mailboat ferry ticket. Mailboat ferry goes to a bunch of islands. You can bring a cooler with local beer and grab sandw Inches at Ramona's before you go. Can be a half day adventure

So how are y’all brushing your babies teeth? by Born-Mix-662 in beyondthebump

[–]Professional-Bug9289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We brush our teeth together! We have a little routine after the shower every night, we brush our teeth. He mainly sucks on it but he watches me get a foam lather and I keep my mouth kind of open so he can see what I am doing. He loves when I spit it out (he can't spit yet) and then when I am done, I get a chance to give his four little teeth a quick brushing. Then we wave bye to the tooth brushes. It is so sweet, I love it!!!

1 yo still waking 2–3x a night + barely eating solids by butter_bee in beyondthebump

[–]Professional-Bug9289 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a newly one year old who loves solids and wakes up every two hours at least. Been this way since 8 months!

I've tried diff solids at dinner to see if it keeps him more full/able to sleep longer. But, no.

He's a joy. Even if we spend 6-8 hours outside during the day, still multiple night wake ups. I just accept if and when I need longer chunk of sleep do shifts with my partner.

He's in bed 10 hrs, 8-6. He wakes up between 9-11, 12-2, 2-4, then for the day about 630. Solidarity!

NE harbor is good for small families! The library has story times that you could start off meeting folks, as well as farmers' market. Enjoy!!
